How many '74 914 2.0L cars were produced.....5597. Just curious.....but is there anyway to track this?

16639 produced in 1973 which are the 1974 Model Year.

16639 produced in 1973 which are the 1974 Model Year.
The numbers in the http://www.914world.com/specs/productionnumbers.php are by calendar year, not model year.

Someone recently posted their car for sale on samba and stated that there were only 5597 2.0L's produced in '74. I was wondering how they came up with that number.

Unfortunately, people get easily confused...
16639 were produced in '73 and a good portion of those were for the '74 model year.
5597 were produced in '74 and a good portion of those were for the '75 model year.

Only the 72 number is purely the 73 2.0s of 4817, while the 74 & 75 production was split between 74-75 & 75-76 production respectively. Your Samba guy just took the 74 calendar year production of 73 MY + 74 MY cars from the chart.
Process of elimination for all 914s sold in 76 MY that were all produced in late 75 would give an accurate remainder for late 75 MY production in early 75 from the chart. There is a PCA generated chart I have somewhere with the sales by MY to do that (only 76 MY was 100% 2.0), but I can't get to it now - so maybe Andy or Dave has it, then subtract that from the 5469 shown in the chart.
However, we can only guess that 50% or much more % that were built in 74 calendar year were the 74 MY 2.0s, because 75 MY production had already started to trail off lower than the peak production/sales 73 & 74 MYs.
AFAIK Cal - there is no other reliable source for exactly how many 2.0's there were in a particular Model Year other than the 76 MY.
