914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Recommended plug gap for 2270 with elec ignition

Posted by: era vulgaris Mar 8 2016, 02:03 PM

I'm planning on doing a full tune up this week: plugs, wires, cap, etc etc. Just curious what plug gap I should be running with a 2270 with Mallory Unilite dizzy and MSD 6AL box. Is the stock gap ok for that setup?

I have the exact same set up and have plugs gapped at .050 - I run a little rich across the range and when the plugs come to be checked they look perfect; clean, dry, light tan.

Awesome thanks. Wow that's almost twice the stock gap! Yeah I run a little rich too. I keep my AFR in the high 11's to low 12's. It's where my head temps are happiest.

I run 0,8mm/0.032" on a stockish 2.0 with EFI and individual LS coils.

I'm running the MSD Blaster 2 coil

You should be able to get away with a larger gap then. As long as your compression ratio it's insane. wink.gif

From my notes:
"How much to increase the plug gap when upgrading to capacitive discharge ignition (MSD) 6AL.

As a rule of thumb, it is recommended to increase the plug gap by .005” - .010” followed by testing and tuning.

A lot of mentions of .045:

Using .038 at first"
