914World.com _ 914World Garage _ It's all shiny and red

Posted by: jsaum Mar 12 2016, 12:01 PM

I got a budget body and paint job this week it should look good from a few feet away. It should get wet sanded and buffed today and I can bring it home. At least it's all the same color red, I can't wait to start putting it back together and start enjoying it!

Yes, Craigslist add for a guy who's starting out on his own. We'll see how it turns out after its sanded and buffed. It was cheap enough that I won't feel too bad with some flaws.

Pretty! Wet sanding and buffing do a LOT to a cheap paint job.

It is a lot of orange peal, and that will take quite a lot of time to get out or minimize. But its a new painter so give him some slack.

Is he wet sanding with a DA or by hand?

DA, yes I'm giving him some slack seems like a nice kid who wants to do a good job. Worst case scenario I live with it for a few years and then go deeper into restoring the car when I can afford to spend more.

Nice looking car, I have a polished set of Fuchs ready to go on mine too, it's good to see how great they're going to look!

Who's your guy starting out on his own? Does body work too? Serious body work?

I had only small door dings that needed fixing I don't think he is experienced enough to tackle serious body work.

Looks good for a budget job. What color red did you go with? Anything fancy?

No I had the Bahia red color code matched at the local auto paint store and then a good quality clear on top.

Enamel with hardener and clear PPG paint I think single stage.
