914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Easter Bunny came early

Posted by: gaz914 Mar 25 2005, 02:42 AM

Well I got a nice Easter surprise yesterday biggrin.gif

I bought a genuine 914/6 oil tank off Otto in a eBay auction earlier this month.
The price seemed OK (compared to what the dealer wants to charge here) and the Aussie dollar is actually worth something at the moment, so the exchange rate didn't hurt too much (shipping hurt though sad.gif )

Well it arrived quicker than I thought. Thanks to Otto for his prompt service. clap.gif
Here is my youngest daughter proudly displaying it (she is shy)

Did have a slight dent on arrival, though.

Another thing off the list, now I have to work out how to afford the rest of the stuff I need headbang.gif

clap.gif the easter bunny brought me a box full of parts all the way from Georgia. Now I just have to figure out how it got a hold of my credit card!

Very cool! I think the tank is the hardest part to find in the conversion process. Now that you have it, the rest will be easy to locate, just need the $$$$ biggrin.gif

If you don't mind sharing,

what is the Ebay rate for an original oil tank these days.

I need one and thought I would keep looking used.

I'd seen Otto trying to get rid of a couple for US$785.
When I saw he had one on eBay I put in a bid (below reserve).

As it got to the end of the auction and nobody seemed to be bidding I just kept going until the reserve was met.

Got it for US$735 in the end, which I was happy with.

By the time I paid shipping and customs duty and tax, it works out about A$1340 ohmy.gif

shipping to oz land hurts.

A lot more than I had in my rough budget.
maybe I'll run across a used vellios or something else useable.

thanks for the insight.

Vellios isn't around anymore (again), but Patrick Motor's is making the cast ones. Got one lying around somewhere from him. Pretty much identical to the Vellios ones, but he does a better job on the machine work etc.

Dan if you someday decide to sell one let me know.
I have a street car that I'm trying to gather "budget" parts for in order to do a "affordable" conversion in a year or so...

Thanks Brant but after seeing your race car thread pray.gif , mine isn't in the same league.

Keep looking, something will turn up.

I've been looking for a tank for over 4 years now, so patience IS a virtue !

And yes shipping to Oz sucks ar15.gif
