You don't need a 914 to come. We have plenty of room. I have chairs, but its a good idea to bring your own.

Garold,

Missed last year's event (out of town). But, look forward to being at this year's event. I have passed my 914/6 conversion onto my son in Idaho, but will bring my old 993 if it is OK.

Only one more day. piratenanner.gif

Weather report is calling for liquid sunshine in the morning hours stick.gif then overcast the rest of the day. I have towels to help dry wet cars shades.gif Don't let the weather stop you from coming out. Bring a picture of your car if you don't want to drive in the weather. The garage is dry and I have plenty of parts cars (5) we can look at. biggrin.gif

Always wanted to make it to this, and never have, looks like this may be the year! I'll have the water cooled japanese flat 4, due to the fact that the air cooled flat 4 is in my garage with no car to put it in (although, I could put it in the back of the wagon idea.gif ) Nevertheless, I was hoping to bring a friend of the family - who recently switched over from the darkside (literally, lucas electrical systems) of British cars, and went out & got himself a 74 2.0l - but, unfortunately he is on a previously planned vacation.

Looking forward to putting some names & faces together finally!

Anything special you'd like me to bring as a side, or a favorite beverage for the host?

Posted by: RR914 Aug 12 2016, 01:35 AM

Garold, my wife was in the hospital this week and is scheduled to come home today. Providing all is good and safe, I will be coming alone as she is pretty weak yet. Looking foward to meeting everyone

That would be great, thank you.

And Robert hopefully your wife gets to come home today. Wishing her a speedy recovery.

Oh, and I will have chairs, but not enough for everyone so if you have room bring a chair.

Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow. smilie_pokal.gif

I have never driven in the rain with my car. I do not have a rain tray and running a small block with a air filter that has an open top. How much rain can I suck into the engine and not have a problem?Attached Image

Posted by: ptravnic Aug 12 2016, 01:20 PM

Hi Gerold - I'd like to come and bring along one of my little kiddos. Are kiddos (5yr old) welcome or is this more of the older crowd? I won't take offense if kiddo's aren't a good fit.

It's been a while since I was regularly involved in the 914's, but I got mine up & running again and am looking forward to catching up.

Could you duct tape a piece of cardboard over the top or attach it to the lid in that section? Then just throw it away?

Hey is that a Beck body kit on your car? And BTW Jerry you live like 15 minutes from me! I'm in Plainfield.

Hey George everything OK? Hope it's nothing too serious.

Posted by: GeorgeRud Aug 12 2016, 05:37 PM

Had the pleasure of having a burst appendix back in January and have been hospitalized and in rehab till last week when I was finally able to get home. Very poor feeling in my legs (due to the lengthy hospitalization), and lost the use of my left arm (cause unknown). I hope to get it's use back, but right now I'm just a passenger and still tire easily. Gotta stay positive!

Posted by: Garold Shaffer Aug 12 2016, 06:09 PM

Pete - yes please bring your son, this is a family event.

George - wishing you a full & speedy recovery. we will miss not having you here.

Jerry - I would think Chris idea would work.

Just wanted to say again you don't need to bring a 914 to come. We all have the sickness so drive whatever you want, just come hang out with other 914 nuts and enjoy some food and fellowship.

See you tomorrow. jsharp.gif chowtime.gif drunk.gif driving.gif driving-girl.gif smilie_pokal.gif party.gif

It was great meeting, and talking to some of you & finally putting some faces to the names. I showed up more than fashionably late, and missed quite a few of you, but I had a great time!

A big thank you to Garold & his wife, for hosting this event, as well as his in-laws for their hospitality! I had alot of fun, learned some things, and the world got a little smaller!

After I download the pix off my camera I'll post them up!

Garold and Julie thanks for host another great event!
It was great to once again see some old friends and make some new friends!

Garold,

Just s short note to express my gratitude to you and your family for hosting this annual BBQ. Even though I have passed my 914 onto my son who lives out of state, I still have a tremendous interest in the cars and the 914 group that hangs together in this area of the country.

I was the guy that showed up in the maroon 993. I also brought a "new" acquaintance, Al Zamora, who currently does not own a 914; but, is thinking about acquiring one. He arrived at your place in the nice tangerine 911T.

I ran into some old friends at this affair, and spent some time discussing VW's with your Dad, since he is of my era. I was sorry to see that Brad Mayeur was not up to making the trip. Brad did a great deal of work on my conversion car. Truly a saint of a guy.

So, thank you for your thoughtfulness and hospitality. You are one of the ones that make 914's a great hobby in the Chicagoland area. Hope to see you next year, with or without a 914 in my stable.

Regards,

Ernie Rossi

I thought about this afterward too - I also got there late and missed a bunch of people. It would be good to get everyone together for a group photo if possible.

I had hoped to meet you this year George - I read your post about your health issues, made the minor ones I've been having seem, well, minor! Keep chugging along, I'll be hoping for you to have an increasingly speedy & full recovery!
