914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Turbo Tie Rod Kits

Posted by: Lawrence914-6 Jun 16 2003, 08:51 PM

How do I know if I have the upgraded kits?

These look pretty good, but the pictures I've seen show that part of the end is either gray or white. My ends are all black.

These tie rods are in pretty good condition, and there are stickers on the rods themselves (printing faded).

The boots look like the ones in the pictures, but I don't know what the originals are supposed to look like.

Hard to tell. Is that white thing a cap over the threads of the end, or actually part of the tie-rod end?

That white part is a throw away cap (shipping/packaging, whatever).

The white thing is NOT part of the tie rod but the end is not shaped like the regular tie rod, it is different.

Edit for stupidity.

Again, the white thing is trash.

Rusty, get your eyes away from the tie rod end, look at the clamp adjusters on the oem old style vs the Turbo tie rod. There is no clamps on the turbo set up and has the solid joint at the rack connection. The old style has the rubber u joint, that is the difference.

Turbo-tie rod = ball and socket like your shoulder

stock tie rods are more closely like a 3/8" universal joint in your tool kit

Do you see a joiont like this pic? It will be outside the inner boot. If you have turbo tie rods, the boot will cover the inner joint and will only see a shaft coming out of the rubber boot.

Thank you, Gentlemen (and Gint)

Yes, I have turbo-tie rods. Don't want to destroy them.
