914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Going to visit Qarl - pictures

Posted by: iamchappy Mar 30 2005, 12:00 AM

Visiting with Qarl this Sunday, I will let you know my impressions of the Elise ride.

I am closing in on finishing the turbo install, just mounted the transmission cooler and am only a few hours away from taking it for a spin. It will have to wait until I return from Florida next week.

Much impoved ground clearance from the old setup.

And the install looks very clean!

Qarl

vey nice!!!!

can you still fit the targa in the trunk?

I mounted my tranny cooler in the floor of the trunk and I found that when the muffler was installed it turned the cooler into a tranny heater even with the pipes wrapped and an aluminum deflector similar to what you have. I finally stopped using the muffer system and use inserts in the stingers and the heat issue went away. I guess there is a huge amount of heat trapped by that rear valence hanging down under the bumper.? Do you have a temp gauge as I did not see a wire running from the tranny? Also how do you run the pump? Several shops said to switch the pump so the tranny could get a little heat before tuning on the pump as they burn out the motor with cold Swepco? But then several others said just wire it so it runs when the engine runs? I used a switch.

I will be using a switch to turn on the tranmission pump when I think its needed, I have been using stainless steel to shield and reflect heat away from the transmission cooler. The cooler is downstream of the intercoolers fan ducting so air is being blown through it. When I get back home I will get some sides around it which will direct a good amount of air through it.

boldblue.gif Now the fun news, I had a ride in the Lotus and came away with a big smile, Qarls got himself a fun toy, the car is very tight and has a wonderful note to the engine, the dual cam kick in is great fun and very coooool. More rides to come..... mueba.gif
