Looking for some advice from the 914World brain trust.

I started my '72 1.7 yesterday, 1st time since last year, and there was a very noticeable bearing whine noise.

Any ideas what could be the cause?

As in the engine alone, just running, or underway, as in wheel bearings, ext.?

May be the alternator shaft bearing, or the through-out bearing for clutch. If the clutch, the sound should change when running, and in neutral, start pushing the clutch in; as bearing is loaded, it will change pitch, or get quiet.

If it sounds a bit like a kazoo, could be the diaphram in the manifold pressure sensor...
