Since I'm not a collector or care that much about originality, I'd rather get a nice 6 conversion for that money.
Cool car. It's easy to spend the purchase price to restore one of these cars. I to would probably spend the money on a 6 conversion but the allure of 40 year old, almost new 914 is pretty neat.
And if I bought a car like that I'd drive the hell out of it.
That's about half an hour from me. I'd be happy to go put eyes on it for anyone who's interested
1/70. Dang it!
Love those early cars with the smooth hub caps. Clean lines.
It's ready for liftoff....what is that a 20 degree angle there?
Poor little 914....somebody buy that car and drive it!!
Very Nice Example...
I like it
No don't get me wrong, this looks like a very nice car, but I'd really need to see more pictures and/or it in person to validate the 28k miles. It is very nice, but it looks to me like it was parked outside or has much more than 28k miles.
- rough engine grill
- wavy bumper tops
- front tow hook appears used (pulled down)
- dash face coming unglued
- muffler rust
- door panels coming apart
- shift knob cracked
Low mileage 914s typically look much cleaner. It is neat how early and non-optioned it is though too.

I guess the did not put a center pad on the 70 model. That tray looks different too. I have an old one that is made of vinyl covered plywood. That one looks plastic with the curve to meet the ridge re-enforcement.
Did I count 16 pictures of the hubcaps.... and ZERO of the engine bay?
If it was a creamsickle with that mileage and condition, I'd be on the phone to them. Might be a gem for somebody else.
As an owner of a '70/4 for the past 41 years I am willing to forgive some of the anomalies of this apparently nice example. Those early production cars had some variation to content that were not always apparent to the casual observer.
This car is described as having the "appearance pkg." which it mostly does have. Like my 1970 (with appearance pkg.), it seems that the fog lights were never fitted by the factory. Not long after initial delivery, the originating dealer installed the correct factory spec fog lights, grille and F/L dashboard switch on my car.
The appearance group included the chrome bumpers, vinyl roll bar, fog lights and a leather-covered steering wheel; the leather wheel is absent on this car.
The center console between the seats is different than mine, however I have seen this item on other early MY70s.
The front trunk area surrounding the spare tire looks quite odd to my eyes as it appears that there is a circular "shelf" behind where the spare is fitted in the floor.
The rear valence does not appear to be the deep, all encompassing item fitted to the early cars.
As a final observation, this example was built the same month (January 1970) as my car. These early cars had a slight variation in their final presentation to their first purchasers that I would overlook on the basis of originality (i.e. lack of fog lights, no leather steering wheel), but the later rear valence was not an item original to a '70/4.
All that said, having seen some very marginal 914/4s sell at auction around $10,000., if indeed this car is as original as presented, I think the price is not out of line. I would, however, withhold final say until after a close inspection of the floor pan (inside as well as underneath) and the engine compartment.

"The appearance group included the chrome bumpers, vinyl roll bar, fog lights and a leather-covered steering wheel; the leather wheel is absent on this car."
My 01/70/4 (4702902791) with appearance group is also missing fog lights and steering wheel cover, as delivered in March 1970.
"The center console between the seats is different than mine, however I have seen this item on other early MY70s."
Mine also has a different center tray with separate compartment forward, don't recall ever seeing the type of center tray this one has.

Yep, lots of differences in our early cars. Hope this one finds a good home.
Looks to have the early interior door handles. My '70 still has one on the pass side. I'm looking for a drivers side on samba.
Good looking car; but something needs to be done about the stance! That looks awful. I had a white '70 a couple of years back (1/70 I think). Seeing this makes me wish I would have kept it. The door vinyl was the same on mine.
> both door jamb vents are missing
I think early cars did not have those vents, so that is probably correct on this car.

Ok, with all these "expert " advice, who's going to utilize these comments to position a lower price for the car.....who's going to step up. I would love to, but then alimony would be next
IMO....this is an extremely good deal assuming the documentation and condition are as represented. The person that will buy this car will most likely already have other P cars in his/her collection and will recognize the value in the first year production and low mileage. Folks may laugh at it's current price....but in 10 years it will be worth much more. Just look at the current values of mint VW's from the 60's....
Thank u for all your thought s on my car.
See her at werks .
In the concourse.
Little things to correct:
Cluster, replace the 6 (2 on the bottom) screws with black ones.
Fuel tank, plastic peice next to the strap, goes under the strap.
My 70 # 2078 had the vents in the door jams. It was also white.
congratulations on the purchase, we look forward to seeing it in person.
What a superb example. I dig the smooth 914-6 style door panels and that very rare to see original windshield. I have heard early 70MY 4 cyl. cars were built in Stuttgart as a pilot before handing it off to Wolfsburg, can anyone confirm that ? Maybe that explains the six style door panels. My early 70, identical to this car had a very different style bold twisted basket weave material on the dash face.
Congrats. I'm the proud owner of a 1974 1.8. I bought it in 2007, had it sent to Brad Mayeur sight unseen (lots of pics and advice from member here) and promptly put 9K into the car to get all the mechanicals and odds and ends sorted out. Funny how little things crop up and add up over 40 years.
My best friend in college had the same car as you in light ivory back in 1975 and that's when I first fell in love with our little gems. I know you'll have a blast!
Paul
I've had my early '71 (built in 9/70) since new and several things are similiar to that car including the door panels. Mine does have fog lights- is weird some with appearance group did not have fogs. I know someone here in Scottsdale with original '70 914-6 that also doesn't have the fog lights.
My dad had a later '71 and even though it was the same "year" as mine, made in 2/71 if I remember correctly, it had many things totally different than mine even though they were optioned very similiarly.
I think Porsche (or VW) just used whatever came down the line!
I'd love to have that car just to preserve it.
And yes, it is definitely the wrong rear valance!
Can some one show pictures of the correct rear valance ?

My 70/4 (build date 01/70) shows the correct-for-the-model year rear valence on the car and its refinishing at the Porsche restoration shop.

Thanks guys !
Hey Rick - so this is 914 #2 or?? I recall seeing your green 914 (6?) with 14" Fuchs in photos posted around here or maybe in the Paddock
I used to live in Santa Cruz and bought my black 914 from a dude with cancer up near Freedom or somewhere up in the mountains in 2005. My 914 used to have a tinted rear window (not just from the insane amount of cigarette smoke grime inside) with a big "Kona Racing" decal across. I've kept the original owner's wheels, low stance, color, and one "Local Motion" sticker on the passenger triangle window.
Have fun with the new 914!
Sold the lilbasterd !
# 2 ?
The green car was my 7 th . This 1970 is my 38 th 914.
I know , I know . After that many cars. Shouldn't u know about the rear valance thing ?
I am on the fence with this . The seller is trying to speak to the Dr . Who bought the car new. To find out about this. So , please reserve judgement .i will let ya all know wen I hear back from the Road S guys . I have owned three other 197o cars. Never seen a six rear valance on a 4 cylinder car .
The green lil bitch was sold to a guy in London , he turned it to a buyer in sunny Florida . Off the grid ! The buyer in Frorida is not on this board. He dose not drive it @ all. The car sits in a collection
The car will be in the concourse @ Werks. The judges , fine toothed , What ?
Please come see her.

Hey guys !
Update to the rear valance originality.
Yes ! It's the rong one . I know , I know . We covered that . I just wanted to let everyone know what was on there . The rear valance on the car is fiberglass. And there is a small ding In the body right above the rear bumper top . The car looks like it was tapped it the rear . Very small . Can be fixed .
