914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Interest in Billet Tuna Group Buy? Brexit sale last days

Posted by: cgnj May 20 2016, 02:15 PM

My last update.

I contacted Neil. He is certain the tunacan will fit in a small flat rate box. If you paid too much, I will reimbuse you for the difference.

This is the current pricing.
Tunacan $56.17
Tacoplate $39.73
Tunacan cover $28.77
Shipping/insurance across pond = $3.43 per unit.
US shipping looks to be a small flat rate box $6.80
Paypal to 7394teen@gmail.com. I am placing this order tommorrow 7/6/2016 @ 12:00 edst.

Thanks for your patience

Carlos

I have contacted each person who PMed or posted to this date. If I missed you I apologize, please PM me.

I realized that with the brexit vote, the exchange had a chance to turn to our favor.
Waiting saved 8%.

This is the current pricing with todays exchamge $1.37=1 GBP
I am at 13 of each piece. I do't think it will be possible to reach the next discount level, which would required 25/unit.

Tunacan $56.17
Tacoplate $39.73
Tunacan cover $28.77
Shipping/insurance across pond = $3.43 per unit.

My zip is 19111. You can I expect a med flate rate box is required if you order a tunacan, otherwise a small flat rate will work. It is easier for you to calc your own US shipping.

PM me if you are a last minute buyer. I will forward my paypal to you and confirm the pricing with you.

Please don't post here, PM me. Please don't make me do your math. I have a headache already.

As soon as I hit 50% I am ordering. Hopefully I'm not eating them.

Carlos

Hi,
You may remember the billet tuna can group buy. I have been in contact with Neil and he would be willing to offer it again.
He also offers a Taco plate. He sent me his newest catalog and it is attached here.
I have no idea what the pricing will be, depends on volume, but at least shipping will be less.

CarlosAttached File  Engine_parts_catalogue___Type_4___rev.01.pdf ( 121.27k ) Number of downloads: 744

Update, I believe that I have enough commitments to reach the following pricing I believe im am at 10 for tuna can, tunacan cover and tacoplate. I think it will be pretty tough to reach 25 of any particular piece.

tuna can @ £41=$59.60 at todays exchange
tuna can cover @ £21=30.51
Taco plate @ £29=42.13

There will be shipping, and possibly duties, I'm not aware of what they will be at the moment. Figure a small/med flat rate box, Plus a share of getting the box over the pond.

I will contact each of you who has expressed interest to this point. I will keep this alive till 6/12.

Again, Please PM me if you are interested. I may miss contacting you.

I was in on the last group buy, the products are outstanding, especially the taco plate.

Posted by: RoadGlue May 20 2016, 02:47 PM

I'm interested, but would need a price to commit.

Posted by: Mueller May 20 2016, 02:50 PM

I was going to make these at one time and was told by MarkD that some folk had issues with aluminum being too good of a heat sink in that application?

Too good of a heat sink? Please elaborate. In my head a heat sink is another place for heat to be radiated away which is normally a good thing. I must be missing something. :-)

I can already tell that this is the only time I will do this. I am going to purchase 2 of each no matter how many peeps join. I have no idea what the goal number is for the best deal.

Well, I'm not a engineer, but I'm guessing that the delta specifc heat of this Al disk vs. the stock disk isn't going to have a material effect on the resolution of your 40 year old guage and sender and at some point it will reach equilbrium, and have no effect on your guage at all.
I paid big bucks for for two engineering degrees, should I make the kids do the the math?

I think that what mean the the AL dissipates heat better than steel an will influence the temperature of the sender which screws into it giving a low reading. Even if it is off 10-20 degrees you are looking for temperatures out of the norm. Remember the original have a cover on the plate to protect the sender from air that would cool it and send low readings.

Posted by: barefoot May 21 2016, 06:05 AM

For the Tuna can, more heat dissipation would be a good thing. Note how the bottom of the engine case is finned, part of that reasoning is the same dissipation.
If i build a tuna can (i just might) I'd put external fins on it for more heat transfer.

After battling a leaking taco plate for years, I got in touch with Neil and bought his billet taco plate for my fresh 2056.

I'm completely impressed with the fit & quality. Most importantly...no leaks!

One of my customers installed a stock oil temp sensor in a stock oil temp mount (taco plate), but without the outer cover piece. So the sensor hex portion was exposed to air flow. He installed a styrofoam cover as a quick test and noticed a significant difference in the temperature reading. The airflow directly on the sensor hex portion was cooling it enough to make the reading inaccurate. Adding an aluminum taco plate would exacerbate the problem. The plate would cool the sensor significantly and your oil temps would read low. You could get away with an aluminum taco plate if you found a sensor that was insulated from the mount (a plastic housing, instead of brass, for example).

Heat being radiated away is a good thing for the oil. And a bad thing for the sensor.

FYI... I have a Tuna Can on mine and just wanted to let you know that when you get yours don't over tork the bolt. Just snug it on because you can easiely strip the threads in the case if you over tighten. Also compensate for the slightly more oil the Tuna can will add which will not be seen on the dip stick.

Thanks Guys! biggrin.gif

Hello all and thanks for your interest.

Heres some figures for you;

Taco plate
£32 each for 1-4
£31 each for 5-9
£29 each for 10-24
£27 each for 25-49
£25 each for 50+

Tuna can
£45 each for 1-4
£43 each for 5-9
£41 each for 10-24
£39 each for 25-49
£36 each for 50+

Shipping
£8 for 1 Part
£2 for each additional part up to 10 parts
£1 for each additional part over 10 parts

Shipping Insurance
£1 for each part for shipping insurance.

As an example if you order 10 taco plates and have them shipped to the same address they will work out to £31.60 each including shipping, which is less than the £32 for just the part. Or better still if i can make 25 for you then they will be £28.64 each including shipping. But for 50 they work out to just £26.32 each including shipping.

This is the same pricing as i offered for the last group buy. I really should have increased it as the shipping certainly stung me. That was my fault for not calculating in the insurance. So this time i have added it separately. i wouldn't want to ship a group buy without insurance so please bear in mind that the example prices from before will be increased by £1 each part to cover the shipping insurance.

Considering that the last group buy was over 3 years ago, a £1 increase (that should have been on there 3 years ago anyway) is a pretty good deal for you guys.

I hope you think this is fair. I'm sure that you will be very happy with the parts you receive from me, if an order is placed.

Cheers,
Neil

I should have also added the Tuna can oil sump cover plate (item 5 on the catalogue that Carlos kindly attached)

£23 each for 1-4
£22 each for 5-9
£21 each for 10-24
£19 each for 25-49
£17 each for 50+

I, along with Chris' (CFR) much appreciated help, conducted the previous group buy. I now have 3 tuna cans and 1 taco plate. The temperature sensor is shrouded (recessed) in the taco plate to help with the anticipated air flow.

I haven't measured the temperature variances vs the stock taco plate, so I don't know how 'off' the gauge is at indicating the actual oil temperature. The engine case is also aluminum, so I doubt the temperature difference would be that much to worry about.

Now, I'm not an hydro engineer, and not well versed in these things, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn recently shades.gif

Hi Neil.

I originally ordered a tuna can and a taco plate for my car, but ended up buying two more tuna cans from other members who decided not to install them for some reason confused24.gif

My wife's car doesn't have a taco plate nor a temperature gauge, so she'll just get one of the tuna cans.

Hope you get another large order this go-around too, you offer up some nice products biggrin.gif

I'm in for 3 of the oil sump cover plates (silver or black)

Most of the orders are small enough to fit into those small Priority Mail Flat-Rate boxes (+/- $6.00) ...

Carlos, replying to your PM, a tuna can will fit in a small Priority Flat-Rate box ... don't need to ship in the more expensive Medium box.

My order only consists of (3) thin bottom plates for my existing tuna cans ... will easily fit into a small box as well.

Hi,

I have pinged Neil regarding a delivery date. I will update here as soon as I hear from him.

For the people that have escalated their pay pal to dispute, I am returning your money tonight. Anyone else want to bail, please do so. I will eat them all if I have to.

I will never do anything like this again. I have been on this forum since before the 914club breakup. If anyone ever contemplates a group buy, I have advice that on how I would do it differently.

I cannot express how offended I am that someone would think that would take advantage of them.

I am at risk for the whole cost of this group buy. If Neil falls thru, I eat it. He came through on the last group buy. Let's face it, it is a low demand specialty product that he makes on order.

I guess I should have told my 85 year mother I couldn't come down to Fla to take care of her during her medical emergency.

Anyone else want to bail, dispute through pay-pal.

Sorry to hear of your concerns. I was in on the initial GB on this Tuna Can.

As for those that have initiated a disput via PayPal because they can't wait or think you've taken advantage of them for say $65.00 and can't stand loosing that amount. They simply should get another hobby...but that's just my opinion.
The forum participation have " evolve " . Some might say they trust everyone, but in reality...I don't think so.
Good luck finalizing this GB.
Just my .02....and no I have no skin with this GB...and yes, I've been here since the break up of the original club

Carlos, I don't envision disputing my payment and will allow Neil to fulfill this current GB order as he agreed to.

It took a while for the delivery of the initial [Tuna/Taco] GB that Chris (CFR) and I conducted a couple years ago, but Neil fulfilled his end of the deal just fine then.

Everybody who opted-in for this GB should stay the course ... no way Carlos should be taking a hit on this mad.gif

This order WILL be completed and shipped out. Have no concerns there. Thats the only way i work. i do apologise for any delays, i'm a one man band and life often puts hurdles in the way. We have to take them in our stride.

You got more time than me...not stupid. It adds about 1/2 quarts of oil to your engine. The cover replaces the oil sump cover and the taco plate(or oil sender switch cover) is exactly that. All made from aluminum.

Posted by: euro911 Sep 12 2016, 05:05 PM

The main purpose is to have a small vessel of oil at a lower pick up point rather than relying on the pick up point at the bottom of the engine case, thereby providing constant source to the oil pump. This helps to eliminate cavatation during hard cornering.

Cool, David.

Those who dropped out lost out confused24.gif

EDIT 9/13/16 3:25am:

How did you get yours before Neil shipped them, David?

Hi, I know but don't feel free to say. Nothing nefarious.
David will have to speak up.

David placed a separate order outside of the group buy and paid full price for the part and shipping. It was for 1 part only and had no impact on the group buy.

Carlos ,I didn't get in on this, but if you have left-overs from the people who bailed, I'll step up,I may not use it but I'll take one anyways.

The main purpose is to have a small vessel of oil at a lower pick up point rather than relying on the pick up point at the bottom of the engine case, thereby providing constant source to the oil pump. This helps to eliminate cavatation during hard cornering.

Yep... That too!

I'm grateful. Coordinating group buys is pretty damn thankless, unfortunately. That being shared, proactive communication, especially when delays are anticipated, help maintain critical trust / confidence.

Before you start calling names, a nice healthy dose of STFU might be in order while you hear the other side of the story.

As someone who wanted two of everything (to the tune of $290.16) I placed my order like everyone else and paid on June 27. Look back at this thread to see the updates.

On 8/25 I ask for an update. User activity (which, I assume, can be easily verified by Andy) showed that Carlos had not been on the forums since 8/16.

On 8/27 (with no one responding) I start a claim with paypal as follows:

8/27/2016 13:07 EDT - Buyer: Hi,Do you have an estimated delivery time on the parts? It has now been two months. If the parts are no longer available please refund my money.Bill

On 8/27 jonesy says they will ship next week.
On 9/5 another buyer asks for a status. I ask on 9/6.

At this point (IIRC) Carlos had still not been on the forum since 8/16. Having been down this road before, I'm getting the feeling this isn't going to end well.

On 9/6 (with no response) I file the following in paypal:

9/6/2016 16:03 EDT - Buyer: I have not received the parts I ordered nor have I had a response from the seller. Please refund my money.Thank you

Carlos finally posts on 9/9.

So, did I renege on the deal? No. I paid for the parts and waited for them. However, a lack of communication made me nervous. I am not blaming Carlos or anyone else..it is what it is. I will gladly accept the parts I originally ordered. However, if the sellers want to sell to someone else I understand.

I appreciate all those who were not involved proferring an opinion on the safety of my money dry.gif

Why did I post this? So name callers with no skin in the game might exercise some restraint before they start their name calling.

That's fair enough and understandable from my point of view.

I hope there's no hard feelings for anyone on this.

The group buy was aimed to help people save money. i hope people don't fall out in doing so, as that would be a shame.

I don't think there's any hard feelings at all.... except from a few who had no initial interest in the buy but now want to buy the leftovers while calling the people who initially fronted the money names. dry.gif

As I said, I'm still happy to buy my original order (which was two of everything). If you guys would rather sell to someone else I'm good with that...either way.

We're just talking car parts...not life or death driving.gif

I needed a custom part and didn't want to complicate the group order. The only reason I posted was to let you know that you would be receiving your parts soon

I did that twice when I was filing my US citizen paperwork. I understand the first time but the second time I was still short $.50 headbang.gif and they would process till 100% payment was received. Of course I blame it on the alcohol also beer3.gif

Hello again to you all.

Hopefully you now all have the parts you wanted. Again, thanks Carlos.

It's completely off topic for both these parts and for 914's but its the background that brought me to this point today so i'm celebrating my business with some t-shirts.

I've put up an advert for them, hopefully in the correct section.

If you'd like to take a look and order a t-shirt from me then it would be a real pleasure to know that some of these shirts are being worn over the pond.

Heres the advert;

Thanks again to you all for your orders in the past and if i can help again in the future please just let me know.
