914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Who needs a Co-pilot for the WCC??

Posted by: Mueller Apr 4 2005, 10:37 AM

It looks like there is no way that I'm going to trust my 914 for the drive down from the SF Bay Area to the WCC this year....

Jeff Bowlsby has offered a spot in his car for the drive down (and back I hope, LOL), but if there is anyone driving from a further distance that might need to catch a few a z's I'd be willing to help take over driving dutys MDB2.gif

What's wrong with your car Mike? Still having electrical issues? Get in there with a mulitmeter and fix em!

Someone could probably get you a spare relay board if that is still suspect, I know I have one somewhere.

PS: My brakes seem to be working now. biggrin.gif

I own it wacko.gif ...... I am taking this Thursday off to work on the car, but I don't feel all that confident in getting it ready for a 1000 mile road trip....heck, furthest I've gone is 33miles and both times AAA has towed my @ss back home headbang.gif

Mike, trailer your car down and back and just drive it there. If something goes wrong, there will be some of the best minds there to help you figure it out. You just wont be as happy without your car with you. Where there is a will, there is a way.

Tow dolly from U-Haul? Trailer from U-haul? I know you dont want to be an indian giver and we all want Felix to be there too, one of you should rent a trailer or dolly so you both can be there with your cars. On another note, at least you will be there and it really is about the people. I was just looking forward to seeing your car with the roller bearing suspension in it.

hmmmm??? not a bad idea, actually, I've been wanting to make a flat tow bar for it, now to find those threads here that show how it's been done.....

is that too far of a distance to flat tow it???

Posted by: Andyrew Apr 4 2005, 12:47 PM

You can ride down with me if you want....

We'll be taking the truck, and taking mine on a trailer...

Pm me if you want to talk... We have other things to discuss anyways.. lol

Darn I was going to borrow your truck too laugh.gif

If my swap has problems in the coming week (likely) I may not bring my car after all. Your trailer may become avail soon...

I was looking into flat towing too but my bumper is f/g. This http://www.craigslist.org/eby/car/65712065.html may still be avail.

I "may" be riding with Chris and his monster truck and monster 914. That or we both may be driving down sans 914's. sad.gif

Give Brad a call and see if he's willing to give you a hand...I'm sure he can be bribed to help smile.gif

i'm 99% sure I can have my car up and running okay if I put my mind into it, it's just getting over the depressing fact that it's going to look like cr@p and not have any of the mods done to it that I've been talking about here for the last few months....

Posted by: jkeyzer Apr 4 2005, 02:04 PM

Who cares if it has mods if you can't drive it?

I have been trying to build a 2056 with megasquirt for 1.5 years now, has that happened yet, no, probably not anytime soon either... but I am still beating the hell out of my old 1.7. Take what you've got right now and run with it. Think of it this way, at least you will have your own running/driving 914 for the WCC, that is better than last year, right?

I have a tow bar that Howie gave me...new in the box....pay shipping....

Posted by: markb Apr 4 2005, 03:24 PM

Yeah, the blue car will be primered on the front half. It don't need to be pretty to run on the track! wink.gif

I'm stoked, I just traded the black car to the body shop down the street. All the paint & body on the blue car in exchange for the black one. Wooo Hooo! rocking nana.gif

Only down side is that I won't be able to have it done before the WCC.

Mike,
I flat towed a 914 from Livermore to Portland behind an Audi A6 sedan. Hardly knew it was back there. I bought the car with the hitch included, but I think it was fabricated from a VW/dune buggy tow rig. I can post some pics if you like. It is pinned to two brackets bolted to the front trunk pan. The car also has a wire harness which plugs into a standard flat 4-pole connector. Tail, stop and signal lights all work when towing. Don't ask me how it is wired as I have no clue.
I believe John Beck, who is an active time-trialer in the Bay Area, put it together when he owned the 914. Maybe you know him?

well mike, if you like i will let you take the porscharu around the course a few times. but if you do you might want a go faster 914 happy11.gif

thanks Fiid...I have a stock unmolested 1.7 dizzy at home....I guess it'll be going in as well as a rebuilt/cleaned up relay board.

yea, I guess you are right....I guess sometimes I fell like a total looser/idiot for saying I'm going to do this or that and it just doesn't happen as I'd like it to.....

yes, it would be much better to have my own 914 there.....not sure how many people actually believe I have a 914 smile.gif

I almost bought a hitch for my benz to go the flat tow route but then I would have to remove my f/g Chalon bumper/spoiler. I was also concerned about the 2000 lb hitch rating for my ~2600 lb V8 914... ohmy.gif
