>> UPDATE - The 2017 Show is coming up on Sat. June 17th - Reg Link is below, & the new Poster is also at Post #62 on page 4 - so jump to there onward for posts on the 2017 Concours Show (up to there is from 2016).

This is a [i]CAR SHOW folks - so come out to compete, display only, or just to "Gawk & Talk"!
We always get a bunch of really nice current, late model & classic Porsches to ogle!
Again - Orange County's OCR "White Gloves" Concours is coming to Mile Square Park in Fountain Valley, OC, CA just a bit north of the 405 off at Edinger east to & right at Brookhurst coming from the north, & off at Brookhurst north coming from the south - & NO, nobody actually wears white gloves, it's just a name!
The lunch situation is supposed to be an improved Bier Garten or something, so there will be refreshments there too.

Registration:
Event registration is available online at the link below, but I'm not sure if they'll be doing on-site registration for either judged &/or display only cars.
https://www.motorsportreg.com/events/pca-ocr-2016-white-glove-concours-mile-square-park-orange-coast-220455#.V03IEL7d42w
Concours Entrants - Divisions & Classes:
Awards are given for the best cars in each Division, as well as for each Model(s) within the Classes of each Division, usually with 1st & 2nd if enough cars entered in each Class - & for those competing for year end awards, this & the other Regions' CdE events count points towards Zone 8 overall year end awards for same.
For 2016, Z8 has now expanded the easiest Wash & Shine Division (Interior & Exterior judged - 2 areas) to have a separate Class for our 914s - as do/did the other Street & Preservation (75% original ext. & int.) Divisions, which adds Storage & Engine judged (4 areas); & for Full Concours, which adds undercarriage front & rear (technically with & without engine - 6 areas) to the prior Divisions.
Wash & Shine is the easiest to prep for, with only Exterior & Interior - so it's most used by those new to Concours & those who want to try it out, for those who DD their cars, & even by experienced CWs with limited time to prep their cars.
So do try it out if you're at all interested in Concoursing your 914.
Note that Originality is NOT judged in Zone 8 - so don't worry about those personal goodies, options & accessories that you've added! We're only judging on cleaning, detailing & preparation of your car, but you'll want to remove items like your cool Coco Mats, coffee cup holders, & other easily removable non-original stuff to aid the judging.
Also note that the new 2016 rule says you need to have your tool kits out of the car & ready for judging at 5 minutes before judging starts - i.e.: when "Light Dusting Only" &/or "5 minutes until Judging Start" is announced.
The Storage Judges in each Division will let contestants know whether they'll judge spare tires, etc. - usually based on whether all entered cars have them relatively accessible. Other variations may also come up for Storage (both trunks in 914s + Boxster/Cayman), & Interior (e.g.: if a 356 Speedster is entered, then it has no glovebox to judge, & we'd usually skip it for all other cars).
If in question - ask a judge!
See the link down below for more guidance on Concoursing.
Display Only:
This is not judged, but display only, & last year we had a dozen or more 914s show up for display alone! So bring out your beauty to show off, even if you're not interested in being judged for potential "Hardware."
It would be nice to have the 914s grouped together in display, if at all possible - so hopefully some of the early arrivals can help the later comers get their 914s into the same general vicinity, & keep it up during the day .... as a "NARPy show of force" if you will!
Box Lunches:
These are usually included for judged entrants, since they're usually there from 7 am or earlier (offsite) for prepping, through the afternoon for judging & awards.
Lunch has been optional for Display folks, since some come & go at various times, &/or don't want the Corner Bakery or whatever box lunches. So AFAIK you can register for Display with or without a lunch again this year.
BTW - these are usually enough food to share with a spouse/SO/GF/BF if you're not super hungry, so my wife & I usually share - rather than buying a 2nd - but additional lunches can be ordered in advance. There are also eateries along Brookhurst near the venue.
Vendors/Sponsors:
We always have a few sponsoring vendors with pop-ups & displays at the show, so do cruise by & at least look at their stuff & the P-dealer's new Porsches - in addition to the judged & display car gawking.
Help for Concours Contestants:
Zone 8 has a set of excellent articles, slide shows & "How To's" for Concours entrants at the link below, which are actually often used by other PCA Zones & Regions around the country. So if you're planning to compete, or just curious about how it all works, or just want tips on how to prepare & detail your 914 & other cars - take a look at the items linked on the Z8 Concours webpage at the link below....
http://www.zone8.org/events/format/concours.php
Other Parking for Visitors:
There will be ample parking for those not entered or in display at the venue, which the Concours Committee will have marked & can direct you to it, or you can just snag some on-street parking around Mile Square Park. So feel free to come over in any type of car to look & visit with folks.
Note on the Venue Change from Dana Point:
The City of Dana Point has had some water limitations due to the drought & the State enforced water limitations, so they've cancelled all of the various car shows & concours events at our usual venue by the Marriott Resort down there (at Green Lantern Park). We don't know if we'll be able to return to Dana Point in the future at this time.
So come on out & show off your 914s &/or other P-cars!
I will be there as one of the judges, so do come seek me out - since I tend to be running around helping out, or with a team during judging. I'll try to wear something 914-ish all day, or ask someone with the judges for me.
And do feel free to follow any of the judging teams around to see what they do, if you're not otherwise engaged.
Also, feel free to post your pix in this topic for the show!
Hope to see many of you there!
Cheers!

Anyone know the cost for display only or if registration in required?
DISPLAY ONLY FEES:
Yes, Display only for parking on the turf at the event is apparently $20 with a $5 Roach Coach coupon for lunch, rather than the box lunches of past years.
And it looks like the Concours Chair & committee took my & others' suggestion to drop the cost of Display from last year of $30 - with $10 off for no lunch IIRC. So now it's $20 with a lunch Discount.
I'd still rather see a free display only - as SDR does, but I guess they have to bring in enough to pay the event insurance & park use fees to the respective city in OC.
I've also heard that these are to top flight Food Vans - not your typical roach coaches for the lunches. I just like to call them all "roach coaches"!
TIME FOR DISPLAY ONLY CARS:
I've got an email out to the Concours Chair to confirm this & on-site registration, but AFAIK from past years - Display only cars can come & go freely at any time.
In all past years the 7 am - 8 am time slot was for entered cars only - so they can get them placed on the judging grounds & the entrants can start their final prep asap (many show up earlier & line up & start prep off-site).
ON-SITE REGISTRATION:
I'm checking if there will be on-site registration available for Display Only &/or Judged Entrants. I'll post when I know.
Thanx for registering folks!
Tom

Registered for concours -914 and display- 911 Carrera S. See you all there.
I might actually come to this with my 914!
Attached image(s)
Okay .... here's the skinny from the top horse! .... pretty much as I said above.
DISPLAY CARS OKAY TO COME & GO ANYTIME:
NJF: "1. Display cars may come and go as the wish, no requirement to stay throughout the day."
ON-SITE REGISTRATION OKAY:
NJF: "2. Obviously, for concerns about the registration process I definitely prefer that all registrations be done online before the event, especially for the judged groups so that we can have enough trophies for class and division winners.
[On-line} Registration ends 6/15/16.
For someone arriving for display only the day of the event that would not be a problem.
In my experience most of the people wanting to have their cars judged will do so in advance of the registration cut off date, however if there happens to be a late entry we are not going to turn anyone away."
Cheers!

Hey Folks,
Steve, Marv, Gary & possibly Rob represent some really nice 914s already showing up folks, so come on down if without your Teen-ride just to !!
For those who haven't seen it, Marv's 3.6 is a monster, & all 4 of these are some flavor of six or clone beast!
So come on out!

Tom,
Donn was offered 1.5 X his purchase price for the 918 so even though he thinks it was the best car he ever owned, he parted with it. But yes, part of the draw to come down there is to see him. He could maybe bring Morticia, his 930?
[/quote]
Dang Rob, talk about future regrets he'll be having in a few years!
Sure anything else P-car would be fine.
However, a Caroyln Jones (in her prime) "Morticia" in that tight dress would be preferable hanging on the 930 - even though the younger crowd on here would probably go for the Darryl Hannah version instead!
They don't know what they're missing, IMHO us old guys know better!
Tom

Anyone else ?
Where will the entrance be to pull into the event?
What street?
Thanks
So... Question r/e display only entrants. How do you gain access to the display area? Do I bring proof I have paid? Or am I on some list with Motorsportreg ? Thanks.
Just registered. See everyone there.
Everything about Dana Point/Lantern Bay is better in my estimation...
Parking for tow trailers and spectators sucks. .
however location is spectacular for a classic Concour
Folks - feel free to express your support for a return to Dana with Concours Chair Norm Follis, while you're there.
I'm sure the committee will take into account the preferences of members & public in future decisions - assuming the city reopens that park to future Concours. They did try out Sand Canyon CC a few years ago, then went back to Dana the next year after member feedback.
However, I know a guy with the Woody Club who said the city is trying to get them to move it to an on-street location on Del Prado Ave. with traffic whizzing by - which just does not work for us judges trying to concentrate on the cars within our allotted 5 min. time, & not get whacked by a passing car!
Apparently the director of parks & rec and some other city staffers have changed in the past year or so, & they have other ideas for car shows & concours, which won't work out for the participants & spectators.
Their idea is to pull traffic & business into the retail area along del Prado, which would be okay if an off-street location were secured - even if not as beautiful a setting, as the park on a bluff overlooking the harbor & state park/beaches there.
So words of wisdom to the city would help too!
BTW - the 356 Registry has been allowed back on the park, after one of their member's spouse - who works for Orange County's water management dept. - got them a bit more water allottment in the drought plan. Unfortunately, we at PCA-OCR don't have a similar advantage!
TIA

this Saturday-should be great weather,no "June gloom"come on down
Hey all.
Look forward to seeing all the 914 crew out there.
My bumble bee wont be done till next year.
So will be rolling the 930 car.
Hope to see you all out there.
I agree with you all.A little disappointed at the venue this year however;
Look forward to seeing you all again in fountain valley.
As much as I had prepared and planned, I won't be going to this one.
The 'rules of the event location' made it almost impossible to feasibly bring a car on a trailer. . From the instructions and map I was sent, trailer parking is relegated to what looks like 1/2 mile away on the dirt shoulder of an access road. . Park restrictions say no trailers allowed to park in parking lots. Not conducive to full concour cars at all. .
My experience with having events at public parks is like inviting munchkins to touch and feel. . . Had a kid, with his parent at hand, stick a wad of bubble gum on the side of my car last year. . Parent did absolutely nothing and just walked away. . . . and you often have to keep you eye on your stuff all the time or it walks off. .
From the registration information online only 2 full concour cars are currently entered.
Last year at the San Diego 'Park" show I got a parking warning from a very upset Harbor Police officer for parking my trailer in the public lot. . Won't tow to that one either anymore.
End of Rant.
Sorry to hear you won't be making it Dave, & of the trailer issues.
I think some of this year's problems are that they've had to make lemons out of lemonade, with losing the Dana Point site (which is also a public park BTW).
I'll mention it to our Concours Chairman as something to fix for next year.
Hope to see you in SD at the Concours.
Your silver beauty will be missed on Saturday!
Cheers!

Eddie (sb914) and I are meeting at Peter's Landing in Sunset Beach at 6 AM to drive over to event. Others welcome to join us for drive in. I am registered for concours and Eddie for display.
I'm out. Started taking the interior out to put new carpet in and got sidetracked and haven't gotten it back in...
I might go to as a spectator.
For those entering for the 1st time or wanting some helpful info on being a CW - Concours Wanker in my parlance - the link below has a bunch of helpful info, how to prep articles, rules, slideshow on judging, etc.
http://www.zone8.org/events/format/concours.php
For those displaying - just wash & clean her up to look purdy & over, & enjoy the interest you'll get, questions on 914s, & seeing the other nice cars & folks out there tomorrow.
It's supposed to be pretty HOT, so bring water etc.
... I have no idea what kind of shade will be available where the city's park dept. will have us set-up, so it may be an idea bring some shade too, as well as beach/camp chairs to relax.
Cheers!

It was toasty out there. I should of brought an umbrella. I miss Dana Point.
Had a great time meeting everyone.
Division and Class Winner... Special Category (due to resto mod). Great seeing everyone and meeting other owners
This was not the optimum place for a concours event, and I think that Dana Point Lantern Bay Park has really spoiled us for years. That is a hard venue to top.
I also noticed that there were very few full concours cars there yesterday, with the middle of the event quite bare with entrants choosing to skip the whole thing.
All in all, a good event, but the heat was a bit over the top. Not at all comparable to last year's gathering on the bluff overlooking Dana Point Harbor.
Hey Hemi Steve,
Nice to talk to you and meet up with you guys.
Jumped out early before it got to hot.
Catch you guys at the next one..!
Lambo green from a gallardo the dude told me.
Super sick & clean resto mod. One of the best I have ever seen.
Just tits from top to bottom. Wheels were off the chain.
My Favorite and winner of the best presenting 6 in my score card.
Top dogg...! The next in line was that purple walters GT3-RS. Just sick..!
I saw your car on the lawn..nice one buddy.
Tom,
Great event, Missed dana though.
Jumped out around 8:30 AM and it was already 90'
Hope we can bring her back to Dana next year.
Nice looking Junior.

W&S = Wash & Shine - Exterior & Interior Only (2 areas)
(UG = Ubergang - Adds Storage to Ext & Int. (3 areas)
> this is for newer Porsches without Engine Access for prep & judging)
S = Street - Adds both Engine & Storage to Ext & Int. (4 areas)
UR = Unrestored - Adds both Engine & Storage to Ext & Int. (4 areas)
> for cars 20+ years old & 75% original Paint & Interior
SC = Special Categories - Adds both Engine & Storage to Ext & Int. (4 areas)
> SC-2 for racers/AX cars, & SC-3 for Any Porsche with Engine or other changes - even EVs,* Subies & V8s!

to Int, Ext, Engine, Storage (i.e.: 6 areas)
* A really clean EV 914 won SC back in 2015 at OCR, but there often aren't enough or any cars in SC at many shows.
Bring whichever Porsche you want for display or entry, or any car to visit.

Latest update from OCR - Judged cars must register online by this coming Wednesday 6/14, Display can be drive-up on Saturday - not "Sunday" as in the quoted email below - unless you want to be by yourself!
Both judged entrants & display include a lunch ticket AFAIK & Goodie Bag from the sponsors (except drive-up display may not) ....
"
The 47th annual edition of Porsches in the Park, a White Glove Concours and Porsche display presented by the Porsche Club of America, Orange Coast Region, is set for Saturday, June 17 in Fountain Valley’s Mile Square Park.
Judged cars arrive at 7 am, with display cars arriving after 7:30 am. The entry fee is $55 per judged car, and $20 for each Porsche on display*. The opening ceremony is set for 9 am, with judging beginning at 9:30 am, and the awards ceremony starting at approximately 1:30 pm.
*For the Display cars, this is also known as the "Park & Party'" Class. Bring your chairs, a picnic lunch or buy lunch from the food trucks, and other "Party Supplies" (just be discreet) and hang out with your Porsche Friends in the Park.
Consider entering the Picnic Display Competition - it is always fun - just put your creative hat on and go for it. One year an entrant had coconuts for the headlights of their Porsche to match the grass skirt on the front bumper to go with their Hawaiian theme, it was a hoot!
Unfortunately, the beer garden had to be cancelled. Do not know why.
For additional details, the event flyer is on our website at www.pcaocr.com/?page=1&e=4861
Register by 6/14 at https://www.motorsportreg.com/events/pca-ocr-2017-white-glove-concours-mile-square-park-orange-coast-160197
Additional Porsche Display cars can come as late as Sunday morning, but cannot be guaranteed a Goodie Bag.

Primary sponsors include Circle Porsche and Porsche Riverside.
Additional sponsors include LoJack, Cooper’s Classy Care Care, Cape Auto Repair, Bruce Power's Autowerkes, The Porsche Design Store, Hagerty Insurance, Mothers Car Care Products and Stoner Car Care Products."

As of the judging assignments for today, there are 2 914s entered for judging on Saturday:
Street Div.:
S-8 1972 914 (Dave Hall)
.
Special Categories:
SC-1 1974 914 (Gary Scott)
.
I don't have any list on display cars, so I have no idea how many of you will be there representing 914ers, but you can decide last minute & register for display at the event. I suggest that you try to stake out an area to group the display 914s, like y'all did last year, for better impact. The folks doing placement of cars are usually pretty open to that.
Do come out & support your fellow 914 owners who did enter - even if you just come down to visit with or without a 914.
I'm judging in the Full Concours Div., so I won't lay hands on any of the 914s, unless judging assignments change between now & then.
Cheers!

Thanx for posting the pix! I think you'd gone when Johan got there with his red 74 914-6 3.2 conversion got there - so maybe 6x 914s.
Both 914s won their Class, & I think Gary may have repeated on Specials Division again this year, but I couldn't hear the winners due to the PA system going out again then (off-&-on all day).
I went looking for you before we started judging & after, but you must've been out-n-about then taking these.
And then after the judging I was going to show one of our other old time Porsche guys your V8 conversion, but you'd taken off already.
He was telling me an old time story from 1970 when he got his 1st Porsche & was looking into PCA, he went to an LA Region meeting where someone was doing a talk on whether the 914 was a real Porsche, so he walked out & never joined until decades later, when they finally got over themselves in PCA - & he's a 911 taildragger guy, but just hated that sort of NARP BS back then. We were having a grand ole chat about the 914-6, /4 & 914-8 & the various conversions done now.
Glad you came & enjoyed yourself.
Cheers!
