914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Value of newly rebuilt 1.8

Value of rebuilt 1.8 w 96mm pistons - it has just been gone they by Soren in the Bay Area. Have to buy whole package to get car, not really interested in engine. What's it worth? Heads done, bunch of new parts, kinda puts me over the top $ wise, didn't want to spend that much so I may have to sell the engine to keep the deal going.

I paid $500 for my 1.7 last year, still not in the car but motor supposedly rebuilt just a few years ago by a local shop with very low miles. I think with receipts and the chance to drive or see motor running in a car it would be worth more.

Receipts for motor and build?

Yes receipts and Bill documentation and I was hoping that the name thumbs up or thumbs down. Anybody Heard of the guy?

Where's he located?

I know Soren well.... his shop is in Santa Rosa. He built a motor for me about 10 years ago (a 1911) .... also did head work on another.

He is very, very good. Great reputation, as far as I'm concerned. Drives an air-cooled 911 to work every day..... been in the same spot for as long as I have known him.

I started doing a lot of my own work (not always well, but trying) or else I would go to him every time. He's pretty much an air-cooled specialist around here.

Not sure what to tell you for value for your motor..... I'm not up on values lately.

Good luck.

Well it sounds like whatever he put together is fine I was just worried about him not hear people complaining about, so I'm thinking that's a thumbs up. I was contacted by someone who knows him and it sounds like communication errors like stuff not written down or quoted in a timely manner

I'm fairly certain Soren is building Randy (roadglue) a 1911(?) or a 2.0 as we speak!

I'd contact Randy and see if he'd be interested in this engine now instead of waiting for his to be done.
