I will be painting my calipers but not sure which paint to use. Is there any problem with using high heat engine paint or is the only option the brush on caliper paint kits?

I used high temp on the 924 I am driving every day, about 5 years ago and have had no problems. I used the factory Porsche paint on the 4 pistons I put on my 944 and it is alot thicker, it is also a catalist type setup. It looked good until I handled them and they lost the gloss. I can also tell you the factory stuff is a major PITA to remove.I did rub it back to a decent gloss though.

Yup. May not look, AS ,good over time but it does hold up IF the calipers are cleaned and degreased well

Some FLAPS stores are carrying a rattle can caliper paint. Colors like gold, yellow, green, red, blue, and gloss black.

I've been wondering if anyone's offering custom colors for the claiper paint other than the off the shelf colors.

i've used the extra high temp rattle can stuff from FLAPS on exhaust heat shields for my old rx7. works great and it resists rock chips and chemicals very well. comes in alot of colors. the DUPLICOLOR brand is the one i bought.

good stuff.

definitely follow the directions. you'll ruin the finish and have to start all over(strip and remove ALL of the damn paint) if you don't. BTDT.

I used the Rattle can caliper paint from pepboys... looked good! but then I got som of Eric's Calipers and have no used for the painted...

I only painted them b/c the PO had painted them with something that had flaked off and looked like crap... anything was an improvement... but the caliper paint from FLAPS in the spray can looked fine...

I quickly discovered that the rattle can type caliper paints (I think mine was Duplicolor) dissolve instantly if you spray brake cleaner on them. To me, that seems rather useless.

Lowes carries paint made by Krylon it is Industrial grade. comes in bright red. very durable as it stands up to brake dust and wheel cleaners.

Hi guys, I'm new here, and was just browsing brent's rebuild. (I'm a '73 911 guy from Pelican and have some q's ab. his motor/carb setup.)

I'm in the process of installing nicely cad plated calipers on my car, and for ease of cleaning etc. was thinking of applying that high-temp, thick, glossy paint as well. Then someone posted that the paint may actually retain more heat in the caliper and boil the fluid even sooner, thus in fact being more detrimental to brake performance. Have any of you that painted the calipers noticed such things?

Wow...... heck of a time for the page to go blank...... I was hoping to hear an answer on that one, I am just about to buy a table top sandblaster and sandblast the dickens out of all that rusty and other nasty stuff. The Paint or Plate debate is important to me too. Hey there mate's, what's the word, eh??

I wouldn't think that paint would have much affect on the heat of the calipers. After all, Brembo's come painted and all the hight performance cars(porsche, ferrari......) come with painted calipers on them and their brakes create alot more heat than A calipers or stock 914 calipers.
This is just my assumption so someone tell me if I'm wrong

Thanks Merrill. Me no like paint. It comes off and it doesn't hold up well to, ahhhhh... brake cleaner

I like the way the clear zinc turns out.

the Brembos are also aluminum, so your choices are:
leave bare (not good), paint, powdercoat (higher temp available now), or anodize...I'm not sure how well colored anodizing would look after being subjected to the heat and abuse....
