914World.com _ 914World Garage _ 914 Featured @ PCA GPX 9/3 Breakfast in Seal Beach
Posted by: Tom_T Aug 9 2016, 05:44 PM
Hi All -
My good PCA buddy Dick D. contacted me regarding his upcoming event featuring 914s as their featured car at their GPX Region Breakfast, so all you OC, Long Beach/Lakewood, South Bay/PV, & even LA & SD Teeners come on out!
UPDATE: Dick says he can handle more than 20 if we have that many, but advises to get there before 8 am to get in all together.
<snipped>
Just like OCR , Zone 8 GPX has a cone zone at the monthly breakfast.
Our next breakfast is Sept. 3 at Glory Days in Seal Beach on PCH near Main Street.
For the month of September the 914 will be featured.
> Non PCA ok.
I usually get 10 cars for the cone zone but if your 914 friends want more spaces please let me know and we can handle up to 20 cars.
>>> Please post here if you're planning to come with your 914 to display, so I can give Dick a count.
We also would like a speaker who can tell our members a story about the 914 during our meeting.
> Informal talk about 10 minutes. Tire kicking and photo opt. [i.e.: PowerPoint/Slideshow is optional]
>>> Please PM or email me: Tom T, if you're willing to be a speaker, so I can put you in touch with Dick D.
I set up at 7:30 in the parking lot and members start arriving around 8.
Breakfast usually starts at 9: 00
Please invite your 914 friends to join us.
DD in HB
<end snip>
Unfortunately I will miss this, since I'll be in Oklahoma then for business & my big annual Cherokee Ceremonies.
Cheers!

Great; we don't get to see your great looking 914 these days. We should be zble to pull in 20+ card for this; spread the word...
Plus, Seal Beach is a great place to visit. Main Street runs from PCH to the pier and both sides have interesting shops and eateries.

see this saturday Jim! I'm planning to remove my HE to reseal it because of leak at the head to HE. And to adjust the valve while HE is out. Or maybe postpone it and just do it next week just to make sure I can drive my car to the event. You never know what more things will come out that need fixing and will end up hanging on a jack stand for a while.

Hey Noel. It will be the white one, but without the rear valance. Kent is working on straightening it. The tangerine one I hope to have ready for the Phoenix Club show next year. With the help of Andy and Kent it looks like a strong possibility. We got some work done on it this past Sunday. I just need to learn how to post some pictures on the site. See yous guys on Saturday.

Y'all absolutely did outdo the 356s by about 2x Jim! All y'all Dun Good!
Thanx for coming out, & Thanx to whomever gave the talk to the group.
PS - & Thanx for taking & posting the pix too!
Here's what Cone Zone organizer & ex-longtime 356 guy Dick Douglas said:
"It was the best GPX Breakfast ever!!!
Everyone love the social aspect of the cars.
Thank you so much for putting it out there to the 914 World. I met that person and family and we had a great time.
Take care.
DD"Dick is one of ou most senior concours judges in Zone 8, & is always amazed with the 914ers turnouts at the various CdEs & events, since I started posted about them on here in 2015 when SoCalAndy was competing with his yellow -6/M471 build.
And that goes for whether we're talking entered or display 914s - just the whole group & camaraderie.
And as Lawrence said above, the tail-dragger guys are now taking notice of the 914s, & many have owned 914s in past years.
We're just not NARP anymore in most everyone's minds today!
So do continue to come out & represent the 914 community at our PCA Zone 8 events (or wherever you live).
And consider the PCA membership too, which covers 2 people & the excellent "Panorama" monthly magazine (which I MHO is now better than Excellence) for the $46 a year.
Cheers!

As my Dad would say: "Wise A$$!"
Actually TWO - but it will be a "2 go in & 1 comes out" deal.
Hey, but you have to give me full credit for hanging onto mine for 31 years now, since May 1985, with the plan to get her back on the road again - & this is after my doing a +/-$7500 rolling resto already back in 1980-83 before she got whacked while parked by a ditzy gal just 2 years after completion!
I created my own "Barn Find" of sorts!
So there Sir Lawrence!

When is the next PCA GPX Breakfast and for 914 main feature?
Posted by: sb914 Nov 17 2016, 09:36 PM
Pca 1st Saturday every month. 914 not sure when
Posted by: Tom_T Nov 18 2016, 02:49 PM
I'm sure Dick Douglas from GPX,whom you met there, will shoot me an email whenever they do it again for 914s, & if you're a GPX member, then you'll get a direct email from GPX (worth the $46/yr for 2 members & 12 months of Panorama alone IMHO).
It may take GPX a whle to rotate thru the Porsche models & back to 914s again. IMHO the Regions could just make each month a standing set of featured model every year, so you know when 914s or whatever are on the docket.
Of course the OC/LA/SD are 914 folks could always do an impromptu 914 get together at any of the GPX monthly breakfasts, or OC Region's 1st Sat am at Original Mike's breakfast, 2nd Sat. roach coach car fest at Auto Kennel in Costa Mesa, 3rd Sat for Porsches & Doughnuts at Krispy Kreme at The Outlet/The Block in Orange, or 45t Sat foir Pancakes & Porsches at Woody's in Newport, .... or any other SoCal PCA Regions' events. .... or CnC for that matter.
Just post a topic in here if you're doing an impromptu one so folks will know to show, & I'll try to come if available - even in my present "running-914-less" state.

I believed next meet at Seal Beach PCA Cone Zone is March 04, 2017 saturday.
Anyone teeners coming?
Last Sept. 2016 was a big numbers of 914, around 25 I think.

Just to be clear, those pix were from the time last they featured the 914 in 2016, for which I started this thread.
I'm not sure which vehicle will be featured next month, so you'd best check on the GPX Region's website.

I think that OCR is still doing cars by color now, & IIRC they will be doing yellow cars in the cone zone for March's breakfast on the first Saturday in March at Original Mike's in Santa Ana.

To be fair, GPX got the cone zone idea from us in OCR.
Also keep in mind that the big Porsche Swap Meet at the Phoenix Club in Anaheim is on March 5th, & the Porsche Lit Meet in LA on the Saturday 3/4. Both/either are well worth attending, if you can get to them too!

Thanks again sir Tom! Well seems a conflict to other events! A member here sent a copy of the PCA schedules and it looks like October is the next 914 featured for the cone zone.
