914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Holy Crap, my car is running good!

Posted by: ninefourteener Apr 15 2005, 09:04 AM

So we all know about the drama with my fuel leak. I have no idea how long that was going on.... but it's fixed now, so all the fuel that is SUPPOSED to be getting to the carbs, actually is now... instead of just air being sucked up through my fuel pump.

Plus.... while cleaning up the engine bay, I threw in a new set of Bosch Platinums (my old ones were really crappy looking), and a new cap/rotor.

Again.... not a real big deal.

However, I also removed the rain tray cause It never sees rain, the damn thing didn't work anyway, and I like being able to "see" down through the grill to the engine.

QUESTION: My car is running like a bat out of hell. I mean, its always run really well, but yesterday I took it out for the first time since the work I did.... and left about 30 feet of rubber on the pavement... without really trying that hard.

Is the big difference because I removed the rain tray... and now the engine is feeding on cooler air???? Or did I just really have some crappy-ass spark plugs and a fuel leak in there before?

Running too gud is a sign of something bad to come.... cool_shades.gif

Enjoy it...don't ask, don't tell....

Well obviously, due to the square of the hypotenuse directly coinciding with the unusually high tides at the Golden Gate, and additionally the rain on the Plains, the foot when applied to the gas pedal leaves rubber on the road.

Cold air intakes help just a little. Plugs make a moderate power difference. Driver makes the biggest difference. biggrin.gif

I didn't put a new intake on it... just removed the rain tray..... thats it.

As much as I'd like to say it's "the driver"........... This particular driver has never been able to leave that much rubber on the road in this car. I'm not talking turning it to 5500 RPM and dropping the clutch....... this was just a slightly aggressive takeoff into traffic..... and I almost lost the ass end of the car when it slid out from under me... I really didn't expect that.

It has to be the cooler air, right?

agree.gif if they suddenly start running really good for no apparent reason it's usually because something is about to blow up ...

be prepared!

Hmm I know when I give my wife a little extra attention while removing her top she tends to run better. w00t.gif

I went to see my shaman and took him a chicken. He makes everything all better.

I think you better hand that car over to me at no charge so you can have fond memories of it running so well and never have to worry about if it breaks down again. screwy.gif screwy.gif screwy.gif screwy.gif screwy.gif screwy.gif screwy.gif screwy.gif screwy.gif screwy.gif screwy.gif screwy.gif
