you send him an email yet??? or did i beat ya to it? biggrin.gif jk of course

I looks like the one I have on Elvira, except mine is Fiberglass. If this one has rust, it must be metal. I would like to bid, but I don't want to go against another 914Club member. Do you want it Scott?

* Note * - There is no rust on my bumper. That is a reflection of the driveway.

No, Help yourself. I am going with a 916 rear bumper and the valance is already built in. Go for it.

why super early confused24.gif

all 914 up to 1971 had this one
the shorter one started at the model year '72

Posted by: Porsche Rescue Apr 15 2005, 12:22 PM

All 70-71's had the deep rear valance with a hole for exhaust. However 4 and 6 are different. Elvira is wearing a repro. fiberglass six version. The one on ebay appears to be a 4 cyl. version. Notice how close the hole is to the outer end of the bumper on Elvira vs the Ebay valance. Six has hole farther to the left.

My goat's big hole didn't start out that way.

i wasnt sure of the year when they changed to the shortie....thus i said early.. or super early wacko.gif unsure.gif

That's an early 4 valance- made for a 1.7. I'd like to have it for a two pipe sport muffler project...and save my NOS six version.

My look-a-like six exaust features a six size tailpipe welded to my 2.0 muffler.

i'm watching it, but i'm a little put off by the $45 shipping & "handling" ...

i'll probably hate myself some day, but i can't really be buying 914.6 parts right now, other than the 914 will probably inherit the 2,2 after i put the 2,7 i just finished the deal on in the 911...

Posted by: Porsche Rescue Apr 15 2005, 01:32 PM

Don't buy it for a six. It will not fit with stock six (911) banana muffler. As stated above, it is for a 4cyl muffler.

a 914.6 muffler is not a 911 muffler...
the tailpipe is different ...

however - thanks for the heads' up on the 4/6 difference; i definitely don't need any 4 parts ...

Posted by: skline Apr 15 2005, 02:10 PM

Well, if anyone here buys it, I am local to the guy and you can just tell him that I will pick it up for you. I bet I can ship it for less than $45.00.

You are right Rich. I remembered that after my post. A 911 muffler on a six will fit with the notch in a late 4 cyl. valance (and probably the early "deep" 4 valance as well). A proper stock six muffler requires the six valance. But then, who can find/afford a factory 914-6 muffler. I suspect when mine goes I will buy a 911 muffler and modify the outlet.

Good eye. Thanks for the heads-up.
I'm sure not gonna bid on a part that won't fit.

i still have mine. i took out a couple of baffles a long while back so it's pretty loud - probably even too loud to use for engine break-in; might hafta get something else for that. but, and as you've observed this is the important part -- it still has the original outlet neck in the original position, so i can duplicate that.

actually, i've always thought 914.6's look best with the twin-pipe sport muffler, which is what i'm running on the 911 right now. i think i'm looking at a considerable cross-swapping of parts back and forth between the two, and the TPSM will probably wind up back on the /6, which is what i bought it for originally, and the 911 will get a Monty.

They are now... unless Uncle Rich has found a "Lost Warehouse" (play your favorite spookie theme when you say that) somewhere.

I'm with ya Rich. Screw the valance and go with the twin out sport pipes. Right Jim? Tiny tires, sport pipes and a cross country jaunt. (I believe Mr. Chambers has about 1000 miles of experience with that combo...) driving.gif

I am taking a hard look at buying it, I can make it work for mu turbo 914 setup and my old valance is trashed.

Posted by: ArtechnikA Apr 17 2005, 03:02 PM

if you were holding off because of me, you can go for it...

there's no reason for me to be buying Porsche parts from EBay with a week to go to the Hershey Swap Meet ...
