914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Vent Window Seal

Posted by: Ross Sep 19 2016, 09:46 AM

Hi Everyone,

I am having a real tough time installing the vent window seals in my 1972 914. The rail (on the door portion) that the lower part of the seal is supposed to fit into has two metal pieces sticking up to support the vent window. The problem is that these two metal piece strongly favor one side making it difficult to slide the new seal in. I think my only option is to continue to cut on the seal to make it fit into the narrow section, but I thought I'd check with you all first. Any thoughts?

Thank you very much for any help, Ross

This should be of some help.
I did use a piece of wood and pushed it in but soap helps a lot.

BTDT. I ended up removing the metal tabs that are on the early window. I tried cutting a relief and didn't get it right, so I ditched them. See the last post in that thread that Mark (Mikey914) gave you.

Yes these are a pain, but many owners never replace them. You'll have it down about the time you do the other side.
