Any one from Mass , can you comment on the claim that 1974 cars in Mass do not have a title, only a bill of sale, as stated in the auction. .
2840 miles!
Why don't COAs have engine and transmission numbers?
Steve
It all depends on what the PO did. The statement seems to say the current seller does not have a title which is different. You can usually apply for a title any time in a few NE states, ME/NH. I suspect your real question is can the car pass between owners without a title now. In Maine, car 15+ years old don't "need" a title to transfer. I think the older cars can pass with a bill of sale but it is on you to prove the ownership chain if someone comes saying it was stolen 30 years ago.
Just bought mine from a 3 decade owner. He could not produce his current state title, which he said he had somewhere, but did have a 20 year old one from another state in his name which worked for me.
The Cam-Am registry has photos of this VIN in all black at some point. Would seem very strange that the car was delivered in colors as shown now and in only 2800 miles had its paint to all black and then back again.
I've never seen a COA without at least an engine number, but I'm no expert. No transmission number is fairly frequent.
I really dislike eBay, but this is a sharp car.
Nice looking car, I don't see where in the ebay ad it claims 2800 miles, I think it is pretty obvious it is not being represented as such.
Same goes for paintwork ect, looks to have been redone to a high standard.
I'm not a big fan of the Can-Am's but this one does look very nice! I wouldn't even mind having it myself...if I only had the space. Amazing to me how these "hide" among all the enthusiasts on this site.

The bidding is already over $21K with 4 days left in the auction......
The mileage is obviously not correct or acurrate as the seller states and COA's are known to be a crap shoot. I've purchased an older Porsche in Vermont years ago with just a bill of sell.....so yes, some states don't issue vehicle titles on older cars. I had no issues obtaining a title for the car in my state of PA.
IMO, this appears to be an excellent car but should obviously have a proper PPI done by someone who knows these cars.
In NY my 66 Bug just uses the registration. You sign the back of it and give to the next owner with a bill of sale and that's it. I think before 1975 or so there was no titles issued in NY. So my 75 914 has one but not the 66 Bug.

The bidding is at $30K with one day left.....reserve not met.
'73 is the title cutoff in NY
$33K and reserve not met. Interesting what details were paid high attention and which no attention. The aftermarket front spoiler looks very nice but the stock "center" spoiler supports are mashed up out of the way. The bottom looks freshly Rhino lined, but the steering rack cover only has one of two edge seals on it....
