914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Baltimore to WCC - Subaru 2.5 Trip Update

Posted by: retro74 Apr 18 2005, 10:58 AM

Greetings to all,
With only a few hundred test miles, Scott and Terry are going for it!

Talked to Scott Thatcher yesterday and today, he's rolling along in his Subaru 2.5 powered 914 driving.gif . He's in Memphis right now (12.45 pm Monday), about 1,000 miles from Baltimore.

No problems at all and the car is running cool from his huge underside scoop and backup fans. He says he's getting about 30 miles per gallon, but more miles will give him a better figure. He noted that he wished for a taller 5th gear to quiet things down a bit, but he's not complaining.

I'll keep you all updated as he calls in.

Joe: Thanks for the post. This is going to be interesting. Are they going to have a chance to post on the way?

I'm going to cal them a few times too. I'll post as well. They are staying with me at the hotel, so I'm going to need to know when to expect them!

Glad to hear everything is ok so far!

I thought they were staying with Joe in his Motorhome? Maybe they are just going to jump from bed to bed? This should be interesting.

I told you it would be.

Donno...maybe they won't. We'll see I guess.

Posted by: retro74 Apr 18 2005, 01:38 PM

CptTripps, I just PM'd you the cell phone number that you can reach him at. I suspect that he'll be @ 1,500 miles into this trip by the end of tonight.

I don't know where he'll have web access, perhaps at some of the friends he's staying with along the way? I'll keep you all posted as he calls in.

Joe: First of all thanks.
Second, we need to know weather Scotts car is early or late for seat belts.

His car is a '75.

Posted by: retro74 Apr 18 2005, 03:13 PM

Indeed a 75'
His belts looked like crap when I saw them last week. He purchased a used set at hershey last year, but he lost them in his move and I don't know if he found them? I'll get back to you all on that.

Just talked to friends in LA and got the gasoline prices...

Talked to Scott at 6:15pm and he has been in Texas for about 30 minutes.

He says he is driving with the crap seatbelts installed. So you need to be young and nuts to do this trip?

He's at 1,300 miles right now with about 100 to go until he's at a relatives place. Off to Rio Rancho, NM tomorrow. He's SMOKIN' happy11.gif

His bootyshake.gif is gonna be numb for days. blink.gif
He'll prolly want to eat and sleep standing up.
(if he ever decides to stop and take a break)

Scott had his first 'event'. It wasn't a break down, but he had to stop to fix a temp gauge wire. He's already moving again.

New ETA 5:30 MDT.

Posted by: Series9 Apr 19 2005, 05:15 PM

He's in ABQ! ....but stuck in rush-hour traffic.

Stay tuned.

If his cooling system holds up to that I think we can all agree the car has passed the burn-in test with flying colors.
