This years Rt 66 will begin in Temecula, CA then move on to Idyllwild, CA for the next 2 days. Our Temecula Motel will be in Old Town Temecula. If your mate, or yourself want to do some shopping at one of the many unique shops, knock down a few Rita's, take in a play or dine in; you'll be within walking distance of the Motel. And there is ample parking for tow rigs. We will relocate to Idyllwild on Friday and depart Sunday.
Fridays drive will include some of the "Dawn Patrols" best roads. The plan is to begin the first leg before breakfast. Most of this run is where the 4 cylinder's dominate. I promise you'll like it. This leg is about an hour long at which point we will stop at Harrah's for breakfast. I'm working on getting us parked in a display area while we eat. More on that later. After breakfast we will continue up the mountain to the Palomar Observatory. Once there we can stretch our legs and take in the Observatory. From there we will head over to Idyllwild. Many of you will remember the quaint village from Rt 66 2015. Depending upon the time of day we may or may not eat there. We'll play that by ear.
After talking to John it was decided that anything in the LA area was a cluster waiting to happen. It would be fine for an individual but 30+ 40 yo cars, attempting to stay together, be it in LA traffic or parking just wasn't feasible. I don't even want to think of what would happen if someone stalled or broke down. Rooms will be held for us until Jan 2 and released to the public after that. That being said, here is the new itinerary and the new dates. *NOTE* JAN 2 is the DEADLINE for IDYLLWILD MOTEL RESERVATIONS.
Please find Banquet Restaurant info on page 9 post #161

Yet another run on my calendar
Awesome job Kent. You Rock in a major way.
Very good Kent, you can count on the wife and I being there.
I can see myself flying into ontario for this one. Rt on Alaska is pretty cheap. Direct flight too.
Make sure your brakes and clutch are up to par. This run is gonna be a lot of stop and go.
I was going to wait to to see how it pans out but I'm kinda about the 10 freeway to the pier on a Sat also. Sunday afternoon was pretty packed on my way back from WCR15. Maybe a loop around Angels Crest instead?
No worries, plenty of time for the locals to chime in.
What weekend is the Pomona swap meet?
Hey Kent,
Thanks for doing this.
GMR is closed indefinitely due to the fires, so a Baldy run would be up and back the same road from Upland.
Angels Crest loop is a great drive up the backside and down the front. Plenty of stops and cool places in Pasadena and other cities on the way back...most on R66. There are even a few places on the old R66 with the emblem painted on the old Route 66...Cleghorn Canyon through the pass. It also burned just a little while ago but stopped short of Wrightwood. Fun and scenic drive and the road is open. I can propose alternates if God willing there is snow up high in April that would close the backside route up through Angeles Crest.
I'll PM for alternate Hotels and options if you like.
Rob
It's on my calendar. New to SoCal from the Atlanta area. My 914 is being shipped out as I write this. Sounds like a great trip
Kent, sounds great. Plenty of time to fine tune, and you'll have lots of help from the locals.
Hmmm ... only 5-months to get the old 'BB' back in shape
The traffic and signal lights are also really bad in the Ontario and LA area. You should probably make a printable schedule with designated photo and other stops. Because the group will definitely get split up. And as always anywhere in SoCal there will be parking issues. So try to plan for that in advance. I don't know if you can reserve parking areas or not.
Kent,
The Ontario location is about 4 miles from my house, Justin is right about the area. I'll keep an eye out for another location, maybe south of the 10, down Vineyard Ave. Also, the dates 04/6 to the 9th, usually the Festival of Speed is on that weekend (first weekend in April). I'll check to see if anything has been put on the PCA calendar.
Cesar
OMG! This means I won't have to cross the Mohave again?
Great. Thx for the support folks. Lets get some ideas posted and bounce them off the wall. Maybe we can give Blue6 $100 to watch the cars at night with the promise that he can shoot anyone messing with a teener. He's been retired for awhile now and I'm sure he has an itchy trigger finger. Cesar, thx for the info on Festival of Speed but it doesn't really matter. As long as I've been here there is always another event happening during one of ours. Some will go and others will attend Rt 66. It might be a blessing in disguise as I suspect a bigger than usual attendance since we will be in SoCal.
Maybe I will just drive to Barstow and back. That way, I can still stop here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vCcjGZUZsLU
[/quote]
Amboys a long way from Barstow, Peggy Sues Diner is off R-66 next to barstow
If you decide to make that leg of the run, it's possible some of us easterners would meet you there - kinda take a little more of Rt.66 than is in the original schedule...
Looking at possible hotels this weekend.
Taking the car for a drive Sat.
An option to the pier.
Petersen Automotive Museum
6060 Wilshire Boulevard
Los Angeles, CA 90036
Thanks so much for putting this together, and most of all thanks for allowing input.
I would be happy to look into Hotels closer to the north side of the LA area. I feel I can get good rates that will kill allot of that freeway time. I will also be happy to work with you on routes to get us around traffic. This is what I do everyday as an estimator I drive allot.
The Peterson is a great museum for visitors with its 90 million Dollar resent renovation, its something to think about doing, two hours is all you need.
Ontario to los Angeles is a bad drive. If you like we can consider closer to Glendale, Pasadena, or the surrounding areas, as long as I you/we get a rate you like for this event. We can do the Pier, The Peterson, Newcombs Ranch a popular Car & biker hot spot on the crest. I am hear if you need assitants..
Leamon...
I was thinking the same....maybe Pasadena area with a loop drive to Newcombs....back side R66 back to Pasadena or the other way.
I thought maybe I.d PM Kent with an possible itin after Temecula.
We're heading in a different direction; just as cool. I've been working on it for a few weeks after talking with John. Didn't want to post anything until I have all the wrinkles worked out. I should be able to update everyone by Monday.
What about Mulholland Drive?
I know its a ways but it has always been a teener favorite.
And if you are a smooth talker like SLITS was you could talk your way out of a ticken if you get pulled over.
Haha. Ron went from first in line to last and falling behind on that run. 06' in Camarillo? The LEO was getting out of his cruiser when I drove past.
Changes in date & itinerary are listed in the 1st post. See you there! Kent
Booked!
Thanks for bumping this thread. I was just getting ready to search for it.
Kent,
The new route and dates look great. I hope I can make it out this year.
Thanks for organizing!
Thanks Kent for arranging what looks like a great trip. I booked my rooms at both Hotels. Took #9 at Idyllwild. She told me it's ALWAYS COLD in April and very well could snow. Reminds me of another Rt 66 I recently attended.
Temecula Ave. 78-48F
Idyllwild Ave. 66-36F
I'm guessing that's in town and not in mountain so a bit colder?
Don't have to be concerned about warm beer
Now where's that seat heater thread
You might consider contacting a local food truck company and see if they would set up for us.
I'm gonna be staying in the 'teener room. # 14, Ponderosa, at the village in Idyllwild.
What rooms did everybody else choose?
901 ...
Kidding.
I haven't made reservations yet, as I don't know if I'll have the 'BB' ready in time for the run ... not that it made any difference in the past
I live close by, so I will try to hangout with everyone and sleep in my own bed.
Go for it! I did that at the Rt66 in Palm Springs. Saved $120 and I missed out on a lot. Have to leave early every nite; no beer unless I wanted to chance a DUI and an extra 2 hr's travel time every day.
66 and 36 is pretty balmy.
Going to be a fun rally.....Rooms booked
Attached thumbnail(s)
Rooms booked. Mention you're with the 914 group at the beginning of the the process. It will speed things up a bit. If folks are checking the motel website's calendar for room availability, don't be alarmed by the red XXs. Kent has them set aside for us.
Kent, any idea what the headcount is at this point?
Booked..
And a Rte 66 special......
Attached image(s)
Quick lunch? What town is that place in?
Kevin they are all over, I have one 3 minutes from me in the OC
3 weeks left to reserve your room in Idyllwild. Once these rooms are released to the public they will go like Hot Cakes and the next nearest accommodations are about 60 miles away. More than 3 months left to reserve your room in Temecula.
Book your rooms in Idyllwild NOW. They are only being held until Jan 2.
The rooms will go on the open market after that and are sure to sell out.
If I have the six up and running, I'm all in for a few runs with this motly crew / taking Steve's approach on lodgings - returning home in the evening....
Cheers
Attached thumbnail(s)
Okay I am booked. Just hope I can swing it
I am in and will be following Steve and Forrest re accommodation.
Booked in Idyllwild. I hope I'm running in the /6 by then. If not, I'll still be there!!!
And I will be happy to offer a ride to Larmo if he has to drive his lifted man-sized toyoto in lieu of his bitchin 914 ....
This ride-offer assumes Larmo can handle the chance of another four wheel lock up at speed - headed for certain disaster while blowing a red light in Flagstaff on a downtown intersection icy road / The only good news is that I miraculously released the brake pedal at the last nano-second to regain four wheel traction to whip left... then hard right..... in a whipsaw maneuver to relock the wheels to the pavement - and then to blaze a shining trail thru the intersection and on to the parking lot for the ubiquitous bucolic 914 review.... during the terrifying hair raising slip-slide event - and locked hopelessly in the passenger seat,
Larmo never made a sound.......
He can ride or drive my car anytime.
Maybe that isn't in the cards/...........
Gotta book a room still......
I may be able to hang out to some of the events. My crazy work schedule
can I bring this?
Booked my room and got an update.
Rooms still open that are being held for us: 3, 4, 5, 7, 12, 13, 15, 16, 20.

Are we going to be driving on the 'Nate Harrison Grd' on the way to the observatory?
If that is the one that has the great overlook into the valley; yes. Bill Murray has a home down there. Thx for checking on the vacancies, Chris.
Holy Macaroni, how did I miss this thread????
Count me in, will book tomorrow.
Booked. #17, Cedar. Looking forward to this trip. See you all soon.
Don
Booked
What is on the agenda for Sat ?
A drive thru the area e.g. mountains, lunch, more driving, diner at one of 2 restaurants. (I haven't decided which one yet but both have fantastic YELP reviews and have outdoor seating & live music.) then the awards banquet. Mark of 914rubber has graciously offered to supply some prizes. If someone wants to take on contacting the other vendors for prizes speak up. I'll gladly delegate that chore.
Booked
It wouldn't be complete w/o you, Jim.
Room Booked! Now I need to make a 914 run right.
This gonna be a great run; there will be snow up in Idyllwild. Note to Forrest; bring chains
April can't get here soon enough to suit me. This is shaping up to be a BIG event!
seems like there's always another event going on at the same time. maybe do a drive by.
Yep...dat was brought up.
Only 3 months / 90 days to go. Get ready.
I AM ready.
Hope my motor transplant is done by then !!!!!
I'll be doing Saturday and Sat night and FOS on Sunday.
Good to see some of the regulars and some new folks hopefully.
See ya guys there.
Kim and I are booked for the whole show....now if the transmission is done, it will be great to have first gear back
yet another Mike
I drove up the mountain this AM to check out the restaurant for our Saturday Nite Banquet. Well, that and to run a test drive. And both reasons had good results. At this point I've apparently exorcized my fuel demon and secured a restaurant. Met the mgr Michael and we will be working on $$$ the next couple of weeks. It's 4.5 stars on Yelp and the Mgr was accommodating. They have indoor and outdoor heated seating. Ton's of Wines and Beers to choose from. They even have Vegetarian items in case that grumpy old Elyut shows up. I saved the best for last.................it's a 1/2 block from our Motel. Some of us may stumble that 1/2 block back to the Motel but so be it. I will need a head count from those attending the Banquet in the next week or two. TYVM.
Nice work Kent, count me in. One suggestion: see if they can assemble the tables in one long row like San Simeon was..
And, How cold is it gonna be up there ?
Count us in
Hey guys n gals. Take a look at the bottom of Post #1 and check if I have have you listed correctly as attending the Banquet. I need to get off my ass and complete this soon so "time is of the essence" as the Planets are beginning to align. TIA, Kent
don-6=Don+Tina
See you at the banquet
Kent...+ one....not sure if it is wife or son yet.
So myself plus 1 for Sat night.
My car won't be done by then. I'm almost certain.
Should I come anyway? I booked a room.
I'm kind of a smart ass and nobody really likes me.
I'm trying to get my S together to get out there... I still need to pull the engine for a valve adjust and to look at the timing sprockets/chains/etc. Hopefully I can get to that starting next weekend. SMH.
Booked the room and now I need to get the teener off jack stands.
I put my knee pads on and contacted most of our major vendors re: door prizes. I didn't bother w/ MadDog or Restoration Design as their products cost $$$ to ship and they don't have anything small. Rob, your off the hook too unless you can predict who will win one of your name tags. We'll see what happens.
EDIT: Since posting this <24 hr's ago I've received commitments from 3 of our Member Vendors thus far. Looks very promising for those that attend this year.
A sincere thanks from all of us to the Rt 66 Sponsors thus far:
and as in my signature please help Support Our Member Vendors

Let me know if you plan any side trips down into Coachella Valley. running down Hiway 74 is fun. Iff enough people come down the hill, I could try to arrange a garage tour of a nice indy Porsche shop or something.
randyfoulds@gmail.com
RD has the battery tray and rear sway bar mounts and trunk pivot and...
MadDog could do a coupon.

Chris914n6: Chris + ?
True. Do I detect the sound of someone is volunteering to do this for next years Rt66? So Chris, I can pencil you in + 1?
I'm going to need that stuff way before next years Route66
Probably just me. Thur and Fri are not easy days to get out of work. But I can always eat for two
Hi everybody, Can I still sign up for the Route 66 Classic? can anybody help me with a phone number of who to call about the event please...thanks
2 months left to get your cars running so you don't get stuck being a drunk ass with Larmo
Just book a room a Silver Pines if they have any left. There will be a charge, to be announced soon< to cover the cost of T-shirts and Banquet/Awards nite.
Yes but he has to stay back at least 100 yards so as to not devalue one of the 914's.
We'll leave Motel 6 in Temecula @ 9:14 and probably arrive Idyllwild around 3:00.
Kent, do we need to do a size request list for the tees? Maybe order more than one per individual? Sending pm.
Now I understand your PM. John, Vegas Racer is handling the Tees. I'll get in touch with him.
I contacted John.
update:
I just won't be able to attend this year
I was keeping it on the down low, and hoping to be kinda a surprise guest.
but the vacation days and 5 nights lodging (by the time I get there) just isn't going to fit into my budget and schedule this summer with everything else I have going on.
so unfortunately I'm dropping out
I do have a room reserved for the 2 nights at idyllwild
I intend to call the hotel in a day or two and cancel that out of courtesy. I don't know if they still have rooms yet, or are sold out
does anyone want to take over my reservation?
pm me
brant
You can prob fly RT for $200ish to ontario. That's not even gas and lodging for a long day 1. You'll there in under 3 hrs. Arrive at 10 on thurs, 3 nights then home on Sunday by dinner time. Easy peasy. Affordable.
One extra lg pls Sir.
One more for dinner on Saturday. I have lodging arrangements.
Do any of you guys have any original pics from a previous Rt66? Steve w/ Fourteener Magazine wants some for his magazine. If so LMK and I'll get you his email. Kent
George Henry as navigator ...
Is that Forrest in the shorts playing pocket pool again I think he was spotted at Phoenix club event working it why'll looking at cars....
Great pics. Got any more?

We have 40 day and 40 night,
to get the car running right.
Because drinking beer with Larmo,
is not a preferred delight.*
* or maybe it is, I don't know, just going with the flow....
I hope he has his 6 ready by then but a guy needs a few months to get the Bugs exorsized after a conversion. Then a good shake down cruise.
Still need some hi res pic's emailed to Steve for the Magazine. He needs them emailed to him but you can post them here as well. TIA, Kent
Ok.......so I got the room that will assure that we can hang out in the lodge room...so I am told by Chris.
I'll take fee beer as a kickback.
No snow in town now I am told but the creek is rushing...beautiful up there today with 90 degree weather here.
See you guys next month.
I will make this drive,... maybe...
No turning back / I just ground off the motor mounts for the type 4 bars / Oil system make-up is this and next week.
The 6 will have sex with the 71 body after months of anticipation in two weeks if all goes well. Just wait Honey.... It will be worth it....
Rt66 is still on the radar and if it starts, runs, and the break-in goes ok as to seating rings, I will drive it balls out to our place in AZ as a summer test of the oil cooling system then join the motley crew in Idyllwild... Lots of moving parts now. Most of them... controllable with enough cash thrown at the solution...
And Kent: I am fixin to be done with you smokin my type 4 and all the rest of them on the open road / and I don't care about snapped axles or sheared CV bolts. Bring that problem on.
Sidebar: After the complexities of building a 911 carbed and cam-ed motor and cobbling together a respectable conversion, I am going back to what I know and can do in my sleep...
I am buying acreage in Scottsdale for another outland home project.
Heck. The outcome is a known quantity of fantastic views, weather, and security - unlike Cali now. The profit is guaranteed. And the sleepless nights are not based on BS parts scores in a back alley or swap meet trinkets secured FOR CASH LARMO somewhere.
So tomorrow its back to the engine bay and engine mount welding.
oops... this ramble should be in WDuuuuuuDTY914T section...
Attached thumbnail(s)
All righty then...... looking forward to you blowing my car of the road after all the $$$ you've thrown at that 6. It would be the Shits if my $800 engine outran yours. Either way were going to have a blast.
Crap, I can't attend this wonderous of events. I will be racing at Festival of Speed that weekend. Drink a beer for me, ok?
I am going to bow out. I am not going to have my car ready in time. Funds are a little limited as well. So best for me to just miss this year . If anyone needs a hotel room. I will be canceling mine this week. Happy to let someone else take over my reservation. I was going to share a room with Chris from Vegas. So if there is someone looking to split a room. That is still a possibility. You've got until friday to take over my reservation if you want it. I am at the silver pines check in Friday. Checkout Sunday in the Owls Nest Duplex 8. With taxes it is 108.70 per night. Shoot me a PM if you want it
^^ Correction. I actually booked my own room in Idyllwild. We were going to split the Motel6, but that's not that pricey so don't worry about me
I'm up in the air on this one.
I'll have the engine removed this weekend hopefully but I may not have it fully fixed in time to bring it. :-/
Kent, is Friday night parking lot - bullshit - beer - PIZZA - dope - etc. night?
Saturday night is the banquet?
Has this all been explained here and I just didn't feel like reading 8 pages of this?
I called & cancelled my room today . You guys have a blast. Wish I could be there
My ride to Temecula is confirmed. No need for you to drive to Ontario on Thursday. Sending pm.
You guys better get your rides clean and shiny. Socalandy is bringing his beautiful 6. Kevin, received your PM, I'll call you later today.
For those not staying at the motel in Idyllwild; Steve just pointed out that I hadn't posted the restaurant info so here it is.
Fratello's Ristorante/ 54295 Ridgeview Dr/ Idyllwild, CA 92549
Date: Saturday 4/22/17, 7:00PM.
I wonder if we could talk John, a Top Tier Bartender, into making Margarita's Friday nite.
Pretty good menu.
Getting close
Cool. What does 13e mean? Just so I have an answer when asked.
It means that this is the thirteenth edition of the Route 66 Classic.
13th Edition / beginning 4/20. Hmmm
Hey Kent: Thanks for all of your hard work to bring this drive and reunion-meeting of Teeners to fruition..
I remain silent on participation until my 914 isn't. Isn't silent that is...
I've driven to Idlewild in my SUV several times and it aint that exciting in that ride ...... So hopefully I will have the 6 sorted out prior to the event / but have fun to all Teeners in any case.
AZ just released a Rt 66 personalized plate and look what's available.
Nice.
How much are these plates, Michael? ... and are they an extra charge every year?
Also, how much is normal AZ registration for your 914?
CA has been charging me $83./yr for a 914. The Ghia just went up for 2018 tags (from $83. to $97.) ... so expecting to get screwed on the other vehicles too
FYI, CA personalized retro black plates were $50. for the initial purchase with an additional 'fee' of $40./yr
Hey Mark - in AZ the best way to go is with collector car registration which requires similar insurance. I use American Collectors insurance and it's $300 per year for the 914 & 944. Plates for the 914 were $115 for 5 years. It would have been $50 less except I have a specialty plate (historic car). So the Rt 66 plate would be $115 for 5 years and if you personalize it that adds probably another $50 (AZ has a nice website that makes it easy to get drivers license and car registration info/purchases www.servicearizona.com). Welcome to 'zona.
914rubber shipped a bunch of goodies for those attending the Banquet. Thx Mark
Fun times for all.
Can the Rt66 high jacking. Especially if you ain't going.
Wow. I completely forgot that Chris Foley aka Tangerine Racing, was donating some of his goodies. We all know Chris makes goooood stuff too, right? The package was waiting here when I got home. I didn't even need to solicit Chris. He called me and volunteered to sponsor. Thank you Chris and Mark and all the others who are sponsoring RT66 this year. We had only one sponsor fall out this year and that was due to the fact that none of us could or would take the time to send him some pics of last years run. Oh well, we faired pretty well regardless. One of the members is bringing a couple of donations as well Glen who has promised a few goodies ala Pelican Parts. This should be the year that everyone "wins" something. When your finished reading this post please read the sentence below in RED that is part of my signature. We need parts to keep our cars running and these guys are providing them. What's more, many of those NLA parts that are being reconstructed are better than the factory made. So let's spend our $$$ where they do the most good. Our member vendors. Thanks a bunch again to this years sponsors.
Just opened the Goodies Box from 914rubber last nite. OMG . Very generous Mark. Thank you so very much. Made me want to cancel Rt66 and abscond with the goodies. Thanks again Mark. You da man . Kent
What time and where will you assemble to begin driving on Saturday morning of this event?
Hey Kent: This will be the first Rt66 I have missed since my acquisition of this 914 / This unfortunate condition may be averted if our pal Perry delivers on his production of my engine harness but time is thin to say the least. Without it the car is ready to fire up but has no fire...
My goal was to get it sorted out prior to the event but there is still the break in process what ever that is..... In any case, happy travels to all involved.
Sidebar: Maybe a dose of guilt will get the shrinkwrap heated up....
Attached image(s)
No problem, I didn't include you with the Banquet count after your previous couple of "iffy" posts.. Kent
Bumparooski.... l plan on thurs early evening...
I am getting excited about just getting out of town.
I haven't driven the car at all this year but.....given that it is a mere -4 with stock injection...it will probably just fire right up and run.
and run and run and run....woooo woooo.
No jack stands and six conversion for me!
I'll be sporting my "Slits" ribbon as well,
Be in Vegas wed. meet up with John Peterson then caravan to temeluca thursday. Looking forward to this.
We are officially in the countdown mode.
Woohoo! Carli from Sierra Madre Collections just called and they are sending some goodies for our Rt66 Awards/Banquet Diner! Hope it's one of their cool T-shirts or Coffee Mugs. Thx again to Sierra Madre and all of our supporters. Just another excellent reason to support our Member Vendors!
Nice work putting this together Kent.
Going to miss this one and I so wanted to drive the prius
Are any of you guys bringing GO Pro's? Sure would like to see some video's of this event.
Yep I will have my go pro at the event.
Great Jim, I hope there will be more than one. Andy usually runs one too. Just got off the phone with the restaurant. I put down a $10 per plate deposit so if your name is in blue on the first post and you don't attend, you owe me $10. One mo week!!!!!
I'm sorry to say I can't make the event this year. I had a real good time at last years route 66 run. Enjoyed the new friends I met, and the camaraderie...Hopefully next year I'll make the event . Have a good time all...
Just checked the Wx forecast for Idyllwild. PERFECT! Nites=42-48-48 Days=72-73-73. Clear skies, 0% chance of rain!
He was there last week
Yeah, he's at the stage where he prefers a good parts meet over a drive with friends. Not really. You see Elliot is afraid his car will break down. That things is as reliable as a Texas weather forecast.
Get your kicks on Route 6 6.

Passed right by Elliots place....at week early...name that winery:
I think it's that winery that boxes their wine for Walmart. Did you buy any for Rt66? See you stopped by to see Jimmy's last drive.....
Sunday bump.
I'll be driving Thursday from Phoenix but will be leaving early and stopping about 1/2 hour short of Temecula to visit my brother for a couple hours. It doesn't look like our routes will cross until Riverside so not much sense trying to meet up before the hotel in Temecula.
Who else is driving from/thru PHX?
Delia's Grinders on University in Riverside, is one of my local traditions. They make this kind of semi hard crunchy bread that is awesome. They are known for there ham grinders with oil on them.
The shirts have arrived.
Brady, Jamie, Joe, Mike and Rick: Your shirts will be in the mail tomorrow. There is 1 extra shirt, size Medium available. First one to post gets it. $30. Sold.

I'll take it
The shirts look nice, John ... looks like 356 caliber apparel
I'm headed to LA on Sat so I'm planning on making a stop at the hotel in Idyllwild around 5:30-6.. I don't have a lot of time to stay but I'd like to see some of you even if it is for a half hour or so.
Would like to have made it this year but I am in the later stages of completion on the conversion and do not want to rush anything at this point.
I recieved Perry Keihl's work of art in the harness bundles and detailed instructions to mate the MSD to the harness and to the engine etc. Taking the shroud off of a 911 engine in a 914 after installation of the carbs, linkage, block off plates, bla bla is a real treat... just to get at the three wires that go to the back of the alternator....
Have fun and send out pix of the meet.

See ya maybe in a couple of years Forrest.
When will I be able to attend another run?
Couldn't get the 914n6 running in time. No sparks or injectors firing so I must have missed something on the wiring or fried the ecu.
Good news I get a comfortable but slow ride with a great stereo and heater with plenty of room for all the raffle goodies I'm gonna win
2 days.
Leaving tomorrow morning, I'm ready to go.
1 1/2 days.
Guys and Gals........
I may not be able to attend this years R66 gathering due to the absolutely bitchen solar cell conversion that only I am performing on my 914.
Even though I haven't figured out the exact details of my conversion I am still waiting for a bitchen wiring harness to my polished aluminum microinverters from Jeff Bowlsby.
Due to some other alternative facts, I may be able to actually remove the panels and drive the car with the original motor that was engineered for it by NARPters known to have hung out at the time with the so called man named Ferry...er something like that.
Please see the attached pictures for your drooling pleasure.
If you put a panel on the rear truck lid also, the two panels will be the equalivant of a 1.8.....
The big drawback with micro inverters is that they're only grid-tie - no battery back up when the grid goes down
Have you looked into the Tesla Power Wall? ... http://www.energysage.com/solar/solar-energy-storage/tesla-powerwall-home-battery/
Looks like my annual SCE bill will be a tad over $200. this fiscal year
Remember to bring the GO Pro's if you have one. There will be appx 4 hr's drive time in the mountains with lots and lots of twisties. A few strategically located cams within the line of cars could result in one Hell of a video once edited down to 5-10 min's.
What time departure from Temecula on Friday am? sent a pm but never sure if proper buttone were used
Olsib914...yet another Mike
The first *official* 2017 Route 66 Classic activity will be breakfast at Coco's at 8:30 am on Thursday.
We will see the rest of y'all in Temecula in the afternoon.
you're in temecula now? turns out some friends from up here are on my flight and headed for temecula as well. they're renting a car and i'll hitch a ride with them. handy.
Anybody got extra space in a room for Friday night?
Pm me....
So last weekend I noticed that the back brakes were making a scraping noise and decided to check on them on Sunday of course the inside pads was worn.
I ordered new rotors, pads and everything else except the 2 screws for the rotors, which I drilled out. Now the teener is on jack stands and don't get me started on the ass dragger. It has a flat tire on a brand new tire.
I have all the parts except the screws, so a trip to the hardware store and then complete the brake job tomorrow.
Wish me luck.
Going to make this trip hell or high water.
Foo, I have to back out. I'm racing at Auto Club Speedway for the next four days. Will look forward to the pix. Have a drink in the parking lot for me, and a toast (or toke) to Ron, OK?
Hey, my new race car numbers just showed up today! (New at top, old at bottom):

No more pics?
Hey everybody, I made it back to PHX at 1100, 5 hour drive. Had to frinckle with the car this AM to get it to turn over. It really feels like the ignition switch. I want to thank Kent and John for planning and MC'ing this event. I drove 1085 miles roundtrip and a couple hundred were on the best mountain roads I've driven and met (and re-met) some great people. All I have to say about that is the Southern California boys have some damn nice cars.
I also want to than Leaman, Rob, and Mark for fixing my loose Bilstein in less time than it took me jack up the car (thanks Strat for the jack) and remove the wheel. Drive safe and see y'all at WCR.
A big thank you to Kent(76-914) for organizing this event, beautiful mountain roads and great accommodations. Only lost two,Kevin on Friday and Marc on Saturday, both made back to Idyllwild Another thanks to Ravi and Michelle for keeping us hydrated. Special thanks to Strat for letting me drive his 914 on Saturday...I now know what my teener should run like when done(next year..hope hope) Oh yeah, Jeff do not show your wife your winning certificate just yet...it will only confirm HER opinion
stay safe everyone

Andy.
Nice wheels Andy.
Michelle and I want to thank Kent for planning the road trips, hotel and food. Thank you John for the shirts.
We had a great time making new friends and chatting with old friends.
We left the hotel early to go the festival of speed.
The twist i.e. some were great and I'm glad that I didn't have any car troubles.
Thank you again Kent.
Thank you vendors for the wonderful gifts.
Sorry I missed the drive and get together.
Wiring 911 gauges today and hope to fire up the 6 on Tuesday. I have an old school 911 performance guy that is going to help me understand the smoke, noise, and new sonic boom of the first few minutes of the initial startup process - so that i can get over it.... . Yikes!
Fingers are crossed.
And thanks to Kent and the team for the effort in herding this bunch of cats into one unified corral.
Thanks to Kent and John for all their work putting this event together!!! Had a good time and great to see everyone and have an awesome drive
Here's a few of my pics...

Thank you Kent, your hard work paid off. Good time was had by all. Poor little town of Idyllwild was invaded...
Looks like y'all had a great w/e.
Hoping to make it next year
Mike D thought he was at WCR. Couldn't wait to go skiing

Damn, looks like I need a different job so I can make more of these - looks like a great time!
Someday, this engine will reside in that black chassis.
It's not fun to go to these events without a running 914. I drove all the way up to Oregon for the WCR last year in my truck.
Having a running car is quite a blessing. It looks like you guys had fun, damn.
Albeit a short visit, it was nice to see some of you guys!!
Big THANKS to Kent for organizing (herding cats ) It was good to see everyone and I had a great time (tho some dipwad at the casino swiped one of my numbers, dang) And now know what needs to be done to my car before WCR.
Thanks to sponsors/donors, 914Rubber, Tangerine Racing, Pelican Parts and European Motorworks. <--Hope I got everyone there.

Thanks Kent for bringing together a great group of people for another fun weekend. Always great to see some fantastic cars. The V8 CAR & Andy car really droped the hammer on the future of the 914.
Looking forward to next year's event..

Hey Larmo. You don't have to go all the way to Oregon to feel like a loser.
That was a blast. I had a realy great time and met a lot of great people.
When I saw this home earlier it was such a beautiful well groomed home. As I passed it later that afternoon I was shocked. Then I remembered that I had accidentally eaten some of Jim's mushrooms.
A few blocks down the street and this tree wanted to know what my name was!
But when these two fellas started talking to me I went back to my room.
A huge THANK YOU to all that attended. It's the people that make these events great. The cars are just the icing on the cake. Mike D, thx for your help. Michelle, thx for your help. Jim and De; thx for the best damned Italian meal that I ever ate. Apologies are in order; #1; the 1st Motel was not what I expected. #2; Fridays drive was a cluster . Again my apologies. If I ever get roped into this again I'll do better. Kent
There is skiing in Mammoth til July this year!!
Ignition switch, mostly. Part production flaw with the new URO switch (all the FLAPS had), part slop with my lock cylinder. The Y contact is barely touching the starter tab and not quite to the power tab, thus no running engine.
Chris, glad to see that you got it figured out.
Sorry you didn't get to drive your car to the Route 66.
At least you got to drive an original 914-6, and ride in Kent's awesome V8 914.
What a great group of 914 enthusiasts.
Thanks to Kent and John for organizing this event.
And thanks to all of the sponsors for their support.
Pack.
Row.
It is proudly hanging in the garage! At least my car didn't go up in flames!
Thank you for putting this together. I'm sure it was a logistical nightmare, but you made a lot of people very happy. A+++++
Hey Larmo. You do realize I was only kidding. You didn't need to change your post. Next time I see you I'll buy you a beer.
Jim.
Anyone remember DrifterJay ? He sold his '72 914 back in 2011; this is what it looked like at RTE 66. Kent has transformed this 914 into a modern sleek car.
Paint is Atomic Orange Pearl; V8 powered; lots of custom features found on new cars
Check out the speaker boxes !
