I bought a Tri-Mil 4 tip exhaust off of Craigslist. But my noob self did not know there was a difference between a 2.0 exhaust and a 1.7/1.8! Well I do now!
So my question is. Can I use this exhaust with a different set of j-tubes/headers? Or is it impossible? I've been trying to sell it. But if there is a way to use it I'd like to. Could this work?

Depending on what the muffler is made to fit, 73/74 2.0L or 75/76 20L, you can replace your 1.7 Heat exchangers with 2.0 heat exchangers that match your muffler.
You also have to replace the muffler bracket on the back of the trans mission.
There are only 3 different exhaust systems used on 4 cyl 914s.
70-74 1.7L/1.8L system
73-74 2.0L system
75-76 2.0L system
You can use any system on any car but you need the complete system, including the muffler bracket.
The heater connector parts (s-tubes, j-tubes) on 70-74 are all the same, 75-76 are different.

How can I tell if it's an early or late 2.0?

I've been looking for one of those for years. Big pipes and tips with small mufflers.
Of that type of muffler it was way better than the Monza and way better sound.

Found that graphic after I realized this muffler wouldn't fit. But also realized looking at it that the correct exhaust pipes would have to also be shorter and maybe bent up higher? Just wasnt sure if the ends going into the heads would be the same or not.
