I'll do them if you want. We already embroider hats and could do them easily. My best friend own an embroidery company. I would just need a logo file and then we can pick the hat style.

If Steve's contact can't do it, then maybe try Mike 911cuda in San Diego who had a local shop do those nice 914 silhouette hats last year.

However, I'll say now that I thought that the original font on the 914 world logo was much much better, & I'd prefer to see it go to a stock or modified stock closer to that look for both the hats & badges etc., & for the website.

It just looked more "914" than the "pointy" font now used.

I don't know if Porsche set their "legal beagles" on you Andy to change it, but perhaps there is a way to get "official permission" to use a font closer to the original, if they did threaten you with legal action.

Perhaps the PCA could mediate or offer some advice or assistance on it too?

I'll be in Atlanta on a biz trip at the beginning of November, if you'd like me to meet with somebody at PCNA face-to-face, but you should prearrange with whom & what you want presented then. You can email or PM me for my cell # if you want to discuss it further.

Way back in the day member here seanery (Sean Lee) had club hats made up. I believe Jeroen made the 914 design. Anyway I have had these stashed away in my closet for close 10yrs now I believe. Sean may still have the file for the logo. He isn't on here much anymore, but I do keep in contact with him on facebook. I could check with him if you want Andy.

Do you want a 914world logo on them or a "914" emblem in a 914 car outline? The outline is easy. We did a shirt with an outline a while back. If that is what you have in mind let me know and I'll post a design for you to see.

I've got a couple dozen of these in stock now.

I'll check on adding 914world.com on the edge of the bill. I know that was a common design a few years ago. We did a couple of these prototypes below about 6 months ago. 914 Tartan from 914rubber. They turned out to be a PITA and expensive to make (about $45 to produce, IIRC). But, it is a neat hat.

I think I just have the blue one in the picture floating around. The other one we did was taken back apart to use as a template. I concluded that they were too expensive to stock a bunch in different colors (they are lined, and done really well). So that project is just sorta sitting. But, I have some tartan cloth that Mark sent me. Let me know what color tartan you want, and I can have one made for you. It would also help if you let me know your head size, as they are not adjustable.

They look nicer than the floppy 1990's hats common to custom logo apparel catalogues.

Well yes, I believe I just did Andy - or at least to try talking to them about it on a prelim basis, if you have the specific person to talk to about it.

Note that I am NOT a lawyer, but after 46+ years in the real estate/development industry & running my own business for 33+ years, I have dealt with my share of lawyers & negotiations.

However, it sounds like the overall font is in the public domain according to Mike Fitton - just as are Helvetica, Microgramma (which is close the Porsche & 914 font), etc. - so it should not be an issue.

If Mike is correct, then there is/was no reason to change the font on 914world, but I haven't researched this like you others may have.

Andy, you've got my PM/email contact info, & I'll be going to the new PCNA HQ & Experience Center this trip, since I missed out in May when my tooth blew-up & I had to fly home for an emergency (redo) root canal & missed going in.

So - as I said above - PM/email me for my cell # & we can talk when mutually convenient, if you want to pursue the PCNA avenue. I'm not getting email updates on this post, so you'll have to contact me directly to carry my volunteering any further.

Again, my vote would be for a multi-color embroidery of the original 914club grill badge - updated to 914world - or very similar to this one below, for the hats. The new badge design which Mark/914Rubber has is nice, but lacks the "real" 914 font of these old school ones. But I'd say do the "914world.com" script at the top in the correct 914 font too (not the pointy one used now).



Or even just update the new one with the "correct" 914 font & 914world in that same font (assuming the font is open source domain).

But I'm too old school to want one of the Millennials'-style hard structured hats with the dead flat bill as shown above, as I like my hats bills with a curve to keep the sun out of my eyes - not to look "Gangsta"!

You know what i *do* care about?
The certified letters from the PCNA lawyers to me personally about 914world.com and the unauthorized use of their trademarks.

I *really* don't give a rats ass what you or any other arm chair lawyer thinks.
If we're going to do 914world hats they will *NOT* have any Porsche trademarks on them.
Simple as that, no discussion.


Now, on to actually making hats:

- Good quality hats, no cheap crap
- Pre-bend, can't stand the flat crap
- 914world.com should be on there somewhere

I say we design whatever the Fuch we want screw Porsche, then just sell them offline. Sh** I just did some garage floor logos for a couple of friends (Porsche Crest & Tesla). You can get anyone to make hats with any logo you want. Just keep it off a public forum.

I didn't mean to touch a sensitive nerve with you, but rather, had offered to help out with that issue.

I actually do "get it" - & do in fact know something about dealing with copyrights, trademarks & servicemarks as a businessman with several myself, & about the process to both get & defend same.

I also did not know that you did have any official communication from them yet, by certified mail or otherwise - just that it came up a while back.

So I was just offering to talk with somebody at PCNA to explore where they had concerns & how you could proceed to use something - NOT to "armchair lawyer" for you.

If you got an official cease & desist letter from Porsche AG/PCNA/their lawyers, then it should be handled any further by a properly qualified attorney familiar with trademarks & service marks.

IF you would like some professional attorney assistance on a Pro Bono basis as a non-profit (i.e.: FREE), then I'd be happy to check for you with my business contacts in Atlanta (since PCNA's HQ is there), to see if I can find anyone willing to lend a hand pro bono. Of course, their advice may still be no - or maybe that it's possible to use the "914" in the original font, or maybe for 914world too, &/or that the cost to do so may be prohibitive (e.g.: the cost to do & maintain an NFP LLC 401.c.3, etc.), even if you could eventually get permission.

They can best advise you at this point on which aspects of their model numbers & font is or is not Trademarked, since corporate attorneys are well know to overstate what they actually have covered by registration.

If you just don't want to mess with it any further, then I understand that too.

Ergo, I won't do/say anything to outsiders without your go ahead. You can PM me for my cell # if you want to talk further about this matter.

I just don't like big corporations trying to bully around the little guys, & all too often overstepping what their intellectual/service property rights protections really are covering! I've been there myself for my business & prevailed with legal assistance.

And Porsche sells a lot of parts to 914world members, so they benefit from it's existence!

In the future though - it is really preferable to respectfully decline an offer to help, with any relevant facts on the matter - rather than insulting & slamming the person offering such help.

FYI all - This font which Mike Fitton posted the link to, appears to be a separate font created by a third party, & therefore outside of any Porsche trademarks. Of course a quick check on the US Copyright Office website can confirm this as fact or fiction.

Assuming the copyright checks out as legit, then there is no reason why it couldn't be used by any of us for the stated non-commercial uses - however, hat or pin sales would be commercial. The owner of the copyright could grant commercial use for them himself, if he so chose to do so.

In most cases on which I've been advised, the challenge from someone like Porsche would go to that copyright owner first - which they had their chance at the time of copyright approval.

IF they later prevailed on a subsequent challenge, then they could send notices to any users of the font that they have defeated the copyright, & that the font can no longer be used (I have no idea if that was in the above noted letters to Andy about 914world's use, nor if he was using this other font).

This is according to what legal advice I've had from my business legal counsel in the past on similar legal matters, & from my MBA business law classes.

I only post this for the benefit of the others on here who are making the hats, etc. & using this font (or similar non-Porsche font) - & not to further bother Andy. Mike & some others using it are my friends, & I'd like them to have the info.

JMHO from this "armchair lawyer" ;-)

I LOVE this admin crew! Tom_T leading the charge to straighten out Porsche and let the fans properly appreciate the marque. The man is willing to march into the bears den and draw Porsche's attention to his team's little site. Since it's a "club". Can't we buy Hats that are already licensed and just embroider the 914world logo on?

Embroidery machines run off an odd file type. You have to program the angle of the stitches, etc. Maybe somebody creates this file and let anyone go and do what they want.

Only cost me $15 to add my name and 914 on each side of my Porsche hat.

Let's keep it simple. Andy's specs for the hats a few posts ago are likely the majority - bent bill, high quality baseball caps. Men's and Women's seems appropriate.

Outline (if allowed) or the fancy outline (post #28 - again, if allowed) seem to be hard to argue with.

Existing 914-globe-WORLD logo we all see on the top left of this webpage somewhere on the hat.

Can someone come up with a cost of a run of those in maybe two colors?

Can't please all the people all the time, so why try? Go for a majority.

I can do an embroidered 914world hat and beanie in a variety of colors. If agreed upon by the chief and crew, i can offer these to the world at $22 delivered to US48. I would need a minimum of 10 items to recup the embroidery setup.

I would just need the vector file and the approval to proceed with the setup.
