Are you sure that is real? I have never seen that before.
I could see a 914 as a pace car for the 24 hours in '71 but, the 500 is odd.
I don't think it would go fast enough to stick to the banking.
Paul
Can't top Andy's "Hallo Jörg! Herzlich Wilkommen ....."
But, it is good to have a another son of the father land.
Enjoy our crazy group of lovers of the 914.
Sure wish I paid more attention in the German class I took in high school.
I think he said he has a black and white photo of the car back on his computer but he's at WCC.
Doug... you need one of these in your Pace Car collection.
Oh yeah...here are a few including Daytona...

I took this picture in 1975 or 1976 at a IMSA Camel GT race at Pocono Speedway in Pennsylvania.

I stand corrected. But I still think they were having a tough time staying up on the banking with two guys in a 1.7. Paul |
Middle car on the right in the group of 6 pics.. 5 bolt rivieras? Hubcaps? Never seen them before.
Paul,
The 1971 914 Daytona 500 Pace Car is a 914-6. The wheels on that car are the standard 5 lug steel wheel with hub caps. You can tell by the amount of holes in the wheel. The 4 lug wheels only had 8 holes and the 5 lug wheels has 10 holes.

Not a problem staying on the banking....have done several laps of California Speedway with the teener and it sticks up high and dives in really
NICE
|
Also, those Daytona pace cars pictured above are not the same. One is painted for the 500 and the other is for the ARCA(?) 300.
Paul
Jorg,
i know where you get a '14 that was given to Mark Dono. when he won a can-am race if you're interested.

Okay, so Jorg owns the Official Daytona 914 Pacecar. I wonder how much it's worth?

Daytona banking is 31 degrees. It's like a wall when you stand at the bottom of it. Paul |

WOT: The Alpenrose Velodrome in Portland has 43 degree banks. Riding on them is trippy! No stopping, at a bit below 10 mph you will slide off! |

well, the difference isn't just the exchange rate
my link was from a european dealer, MA Scale is a US company, so there are shipping costs as well as customs duties ...
last week I got a rare Bandai motorized Porsche 914 kit (MIB) from a US eBay seller - $105 for the kit, $24 for insured shipping to Austria, $43 customs duty

WOW! What a cool thread. I was researching this very subject just a few months ago. Of course, I came up blank because my focus was trying to see if any pace car sites actually acknowledged the '71 /6 pace car.
