914World.com _ 914World Garage _ OT Are There Any 912 Owners on World?

Posted by: jack20 Nov 1 2016, 06:02 PM

I'm considering adding a 912 to the garage to keep the 914 company.
I've been researching 912 sites and all I could find that is remotely like World is the 912 Registry BBS. It doesn't come anywhere close to 914 World.

Does anyone know of other sites?

Thanks,

Jack

As I recall...yes there are.

Mark at Original Customs has one that belongs to his wife. Needs an engine. What is it they say about the plumber and his sink? blink.gif poke.gif

Aric and I have one. Project car but really pretty good. We have the original engine but we are building a type IV 2.0 with 912E tin.

I had two until earlier this year, a '66 & a '67. Sold the '67 in March when I was closing my shop.

I found this '69 about a year ago. It shows 3000 miles now after turning over twice. My 2.0 914 has more power and torque and handles better, but the 912 is more closed in for bad weather and has classic looks. Both have 5 speed 901 transmissions but the 912 turns 3700 RPM at highway speeds and the 914 turns about 3000. Both are noisy. Much easier valve adjustment on the 912. Don't ask me to choose between them...I'd be the donkey between two bales of hay.

No website compares to 914world but the 912BBS site has just as good people. It seems that nothing inspires "hands on" understanding like a 914 though. Remember to use your real name on the 912 site.

I think Jake Raby has one as well. My friend had one back in the day and it was a great car that we had a lot of fun with.

***Maybe the 914 Directors*** (whoever they are), will allow for a 912 Forum here? Just a thought for our 4 cylinder brethren. Just an idea...

I don't have one, however another Mike Mueller in the Bay Area has one smile.gif

Neighbor across the street from me has a near perfect '76 (too bad we are in CA, his is all smog legal)

I'd like one, but don't think I'll ever be able to afford one now, it would be sweet with a Polo motor in it like this one: http://flatsixes.com/cars/for-sale-cars/polo-engined-912-911s-911/

My 912 Soft Window is in October Excellence Magazine.

I'm also on the 912BBS (with my business name (Mark Alan). You might search for threads on trans gearing on the BBS ... get the final drive ration down a little confused24.gif

OT ...Looks like your neighbor might be an Amateur Radio enthusiast?

You might find some interesting 912 info at the Shop Talk Forums site. Here is a good thread about a T4 powered 912.
