914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Powder coating in SoCal- Shout out to Young Gun

Posted by: Boomingbeetle Nov 18 2016, 06:40 PM

Last week I dropped off this mess of greasy un-cleaned engine tin and misc parts. Sam at Young Gun quoted me $200 to bake all the crud off and have it coated. The shop looks like a tornado ran through it but the finished product looks fantastic!

Yeah definitely want the Lemfoerder.

Finished up my tie rods, new sway bar bushings, torsion bar adjustments, and did a home DIY alignment with a ruler and strings. Drove the car and seems to handle better and no shakes at speed. So I did something right!

Will find out further tomorrow at an autocross...

That's actually sort of pricy for not many pieces.
My local place isn't fancy but $275 got me this:

That's a great deal too. I was willing to take a shot, I went to 3 other places and the cheapest offer I got was $300. I was just happy with the turnaround time and the fact that I didn't have to clean anything. Some of those parts were in really sad shape, now they look awesome! I know powder is cheap, most places have a $250 or 350 minimum no matter how many pieces just to do the work

Great info. Price difference, unfortunately we live in the LA / California where everything is regulated the the hilt.

Good point. Newark Delaware is probably a lot cheaper to get things worked than LA. We don't even pay sales tax.

I have a sandblaster and powder coater who is probably cheaper but quality and dependability count for a lot. I have used ones where no common sense is used and they stick parts together based on how they hang the parts for painting. I also get good prices as I have the parts in satin black and have him add my parts to larger batches. If they have to do a special color or run a small batch it cost them more. The oven he has will easily fit a whole car. Cost a bit in electricity to heat that to 400 degrees.
If you like it and are happy that is all that matters.
