914World.com _ 914World Garage _ oil pump cover nuts

Hi Guys,

Trying to make good on my new years resolution to stop leaks on my 2056. I replaced the oil pump cover gasket (it was partially disintegrated).

In Jake's DVD, he recommends using the red sealing-type nuts on the oil pump cover. Looks like they're still available from air-cooled....but are they the only way to go? Or can I use something like teflon paste on the studs?

Thanks!

Ian

Nope, never use them on any of my builds and they weren't spec'd from the factory.

Thanks, Mark. Do you use teflon or anything else to keep oil from seeping past the threads? It's under pressure, no?

It's only under pressure if the rest of the seal leaks. Which is a more complicated way of saying, No, it's not under pressure. I don't put sealant on the threads. But you can if you want. It's not gonna hurt anything.

Ah. Makes sense. Thanks!
