As many of you that attended WCC 2005. the morning of the poker run there as awhite 914 that was trailered over from Georgia. The owner tried and tried to start the ultimate 914. No start. I noticed the three young men standing there watching as a long line of 914s passed them by. I took pity on them. Having towed JLO to Bill Pickering and picking up a 76 yellow 914 and bringing it to WCC 2005. I decided to hand them the keys and tell them where the car was and take it, and make the poker run, I was riding with Jim Chambers in his yellow 914-6. Well the southern boys made it, and had a fine time.

ferg.
Mike I hope you are able to make it to Las Vegas for next years WCC. See you there.
CCLINAPRESWCC
So it's vegas for real? I missed that somehow, heck that's only 13 hours in a normal car from here... 9 now that my record is clear again no problem, plus i've got family there. can't wait.

It appears to be shifting to Las Vegas. No one wants to drive to Portland. Unless they are from Washington or Canada, and Oregon.

COOL!!! I am in for Vegas!! It's only four hours from here under normal conditons. Besides, its been too long since I have been there. What happens in vegas, stays in vegas, right? That would be awesome!!

That's a shame. I was looking forward to that. Vegas doesn't do much for me anymore. But it's an easy cruise from here. |
Three years ago this summer when I drove the /6 home from the Bay area, we spent the weekend in Vegas over 4th of July. Hotter than hell... the heat went through the bottom of your shoes.
I was looking forward to Portland...never been.....oh well, I'm sure I'll some excuse to head on up there
Craig,
Very nice of you to loan them the car....I offered them the chance to use our LM-1 wideband O2 reader, but they politely declined....
Vegas Portland
dosent matter ill be there. you let Greg from AA take youre car on the poker run?
that was really kool of ya Craig.
james
Vegas Too bad
Desert driving isnt on my list of favorite things to do.
Socal was fun
Portland would be fun as well.

Kudos Craig. Cool.
No one wants to drive to Portland? Bummer. Portland would have been an awesome venue. Oh well.
I cry Portland! But that's just because I know I can't make vegas To much school just like the last two years . Plus Portland sure would be pretty and lots to do. Who needs to gamble anyway?
Eric
We have gambling in Oregon, what are all those Indian casinos for??
CCLINAPRESWCC
Very true craig. If we all wanted to do a little gambiling I would be more than happy to help organize a little costal teener cruise through some twisties .

Maybe we should start a poll? Or are we getting a little ahead of things with the WCC 05 Being finished less than a week ago?
Eric
Um.. I *thought* the whole idea was to piggie back on Parade ? Make huge showing to the rest of the P-car crowd ?
B
I was also looking forward to crashing the PCA Parade in Portland for the WCC 2006.
I have had several people tell me that Vegas would be a good site to host the next WCC.
IF that is the site we select, I will need a lot of help from Club members in other areas.
There are a total of only 3 active Vegas members here at 914World.com.
What say the rest of you? Portland or Vegas for the WCC 2006?
well as I see it, if we have next year in vegas we couldn't call it west coast classic anymore so my vote goes to the portland area and as brad stated showing up in the porsche parade would make better sense to me but don't get me wrong I would not have any issues to go to vegas either way it's all gud AL

I WANT TO DRIVE TO PORTLAND! |
i thought the '06 Parade was San Diego, and the '07 Parade in Portland... i'm still looking for the definitive answer on that.
i liked Portland, there are some lovely pinot noir in that area. there are NO wineries in NV... Vegas could be okay in autumn. it's only 200 mi from the coast and there are many cheap air fares. lodging is also a comparitive bargain.
ask Howard if he thinks a year is too long to plan an event like this...
vegas huh? . take lots of pictures for me.
k
Put me down for Portland. I've just driven through that area once, mostly at night. I was really looking forward to it being there.
Vegas - I would go, easy trip, but I would prefer Portland.
And 06 was gonna be THE year I got to go (unless I get laid off instead of my wife).
Portland. PIR, good track.
I'd really like to go up to Portland or Seattle for 2006. I think it would be cool if Cawdrey could show up with his 914-Van!
Did someone say SAN DIEGO?
J
Portland would be cool.
Anyone here fly fish? Good rivers to be found in Oregon for some fatty trout!
PCA Parade is in Portland in 06 but not likely we could combine events. All would have to be PCA members and not everyone who registers gets in. They have a date and time when you can send in your app. and this year several hundred did not get in.
Go Portland!

PIR, good track. |
Things to do in Portland, or in the area.
1. Scenic Columbia Gorge-I believe this is the most beutiful thing that you can see in Oregon.
2.Twisty historic hwy through the columbia gorge.
3.Wine Country.
4. PIR
There are lots of places to entertain yourselves. There are like 3 casino's that I can think of. The oregon Coast is Beutiful. McMennamis, for those of you who like the microbrew. Lots of Strip clubs (for those of you who like those things).Hooters.
We have Lots of nice parks like the Rose Garden. (The actual Garden, Not the Arena)
And for those who didn't want to drive to Portland, I want to remind them, that It is a long drive for us to make it to California. James drove for 16 hours nonstop, one way. You may also be able to catch a flight to PDX if you don't want to drive.
VEGAS IN 2007!!!!!
HIEDI
Veags I would go for sure (as long as I-70 isn't snowed closed).
Portland is a long drive but would be well worth it - for those who have not been to the Great Northwest - it's beautiful! a Vancouver side trip for those who could spare a few extra days is well worth it.
The biggest downside to Portland for me is I might not come back...
If I remember the historic races were the weekend that was being thrown around for for portland? I think that would be pretty cool as well.
Eric
PORTLAND!
THe ultimate hill climb to Timberline! PIR is a great road course... And I flyfish... dont catch but that is why the call it fishing and not catching, right!!
Someone should start a poll. its not too early to discuss the next venue.
FWIW I support Portland:
-the guys from the NW have supported two WCC's, lets make it easier on them now
-more 914 people up there to support the effort
-I'd love to drive the PIR
-show the taildraggers our colors around the time of Parade (which I'm sure is in Portland in 2006 as I was planning on driving my 911 to it)
-been to LV many times, been to Portland once and loved the area

Oh, Craig. Are you there? Think 06 will be PNW, so I would like to reserve a rental car from you for the event. 6 cyl preferred, but 4 OK, or failing that, any car with a name ending in "I" (Innocenti excluded)
I promise you'll get a shirt
it was explained to me why the numbers from cal would not likely show up in pland, while we were at lancaster. ok, i guess ? my 2500+ mile runs for a function are finnished for a few years. i'm sure the i'm sure boys from regina would prefer the pnw too. the decission should be determined asap. hotel reservations will fill up will fill up quickly. are the historics the same dates as the parade? double madness.

Yuppers! Parade is in Portland in 2006. ...The Auto Cross Board is looking at 3 days of AX at some large plot of asphalt. A 914 WCC at this time would be incredible! |
Hey I already said that in Root's thread. Go to his thread and VOTE
I'll post on the other thread, too, but trust me. Don't try to piggyback another event.
Portland. Dont do it the same week as Parade.
I like Portland, went to both Parades that have been there.
WAIT!
I've been trying to keep outta this till I had something positive to ad, but.....
#1 The Parade is in Portland in 06.
#2 We're still lookin' for asphalt for the AX....hoping for sumthin' other than PIR
#3 Piggybacking on the Parade is not an option for the reason Jim has stated.
#4 We maybe could all get together at the historics, but the AX they had at the last one was unsafe and sucked (Trust me, I made 15-20 passes & still was only 2nd...a tenth off ). There would be no track/AX.
#5 We might could piggy back on a ORPCA AX....might. A few options here....nothing soild
#6 In the last week of July it has rained ONCE in the last 30 years in Portland.
#& A couple-3 of us locals are talkin about doin' the work involved, but we are all involved in the Parade....and I still don't have a firm date for it.
#8 Craig is stiring the pot, me thinks
There ya go, nothing positive cept the weather.
Go Portland
Besides,
<<<< Marylin
Portland
I spoke to the operations manager for the Portland Historics thursday, and she is being extremely helpful to our group wanting to use the historics for a piggyback event.
JP, I spoke to her about the fact that the ax was sucky and she agreed. It will be less restrictive in space and the fact that other cars, the for sale corral in particular, were so close. It will be in the pro pits, but it will not get much larger since it took up most of that area already. At least there will be a place to run. There will be easier in and out for the inside car corrals.
This year the featured marque will be the Ford Gt 350. She doesn"t have any idea what the featured marque will be for 2006. I did mention that the PCA parade will be in PDX that same year.
Reservations for the hotels in the area should be made early. Many events sell out the hotels in the surrounding area each year.
Dave, Not really seeing this as a bi-city event with Bremerton and Portland. To much time and distance for such a short period of time.
It's official, we will go forward with Portland for 2006 for the CAMP 914 Classic. WCC #3 2006.

Craig:
The historics is a cool event in it's self and I'm sure everyone would enjoy it. I like the idea. Their car corrals lend themselves to what we would need. There could be a camping area there also....camp914, of course if we can work that out with track management..... Sorry Z, no booze allowed in PIR.
The AX last year was set up & ran by the SCCA rally folks.
It was hand timed and I never saw any results other than the top ten times posted on a board at the start line.
The access road to the corrals ran within a few feet of the course and it was very short.....23 sec as I recall. We can fix that and get a decent course. To make it decent, we would have to take the duties of puting it on upon ourselves....which is doable. It would not be a 914 only event. We'd have to hook up with the PAC and make it a revenue generating event for them to use their timing gear..914 people have a fair amount of "influence" in the PCA AX set-up.
Gary Chapman has volunteered to help set this up also.
The 2 of you need to talk. I'll work on the AX end.
"We have ignition"
Great news you guys. I only floated the Bremerton thing. It would have been a nightmare to pull off the travel so I'm glad it looks like it can work in Portland. I'd like to help so if there's anything that could be done let me know.
I wonder if some of oue dedicated racers could run in the historics. I'd love to see some 914's kick butt!
Way to go you guys
Dave
Let me know what I can do to help...
