914World.com _ 914World Garage _ heater control removal

Posted by: tat2dphreak May 1 2005, 04:56 PM

I'm not going to have heat in my car, and don't have the pieces anyway... all I have is the control panel... the fresh air fan was made to work by a toggle switch that the PO installed, so how do I take the control panel out? I plan on putting a "delete" panel there and recovering(either with metal or vinyl) the whole front to look better...

there's a 10mm nut that secures the panel to the firewall. hard to see and get to, you'll have to get on your back and under the dash.
once that nut is off, the controls will slide out forward. you then have to unbolt the 3 cables that go to them (8mm iirc) ...

PS: btw., is your avatar from "Meet the Feebles" ??? idea.gif

cool. I couldn't find it, but I wasn't looking that hard either... it was an idea while primering the metal dash behind the dash pad... I plan on painting this part with a gray paint(maybe textured) since the vinyl was trashed...

yes, it's the feebles... great movie!

I still don't know how he went from directing dead alive and meet the feebles... 2 very jacked, low budget, cult classics to the LOTR trilogy... blackmail?

I pulled the control panel friday. It took me a little while to find that nut, but after i took it out it was a snap.

Have you done the control lever on the tunnel? Is that as easy as it looks?

Brain dead = dead alive...

I had never heard of braindead, so I looked it up on imdb.com:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103873/

but I also forgot Jackson wrote/directed http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0092610/ which was also jacked but VERY funny!!

a friend down the hall from me in college turned me onto his stuff... one night of beerchug.gif drunk.gif smoke.gif

I'm still looking for feebles on DVD... dry.gif

I had planned on painting the floor today, but realized I still have damn TAR on it... I'll buy a heat gun tommorrow, instead of using the propane torch... in related news, don't use a torch on tar after spraying aircraft paint stripper on the paint... smile.gif very smelly! icon8.gif

Tar..mmm... that was last weekend.

leave it to me to fuck this simple task up... dry.gif when I pulled the little "fasten seat belt" light out, it hung on ht little metal piece that is glued to the dash, so now that is all bent...
headbang.gif
does this piece "DO" anything? can it be removed completely? if they are needed, are "new" smooth replacements available? I was going to paint it anyway, so I was going to have to remove the old glue residue and smooth it out... the dash behind looks good... I already removed the plate that was on the glove box... all I had to do there was put a washer on the screws since they were too long without that plate...
