914World.com _ 914World Garage _ 914-6 oil tank dw design

Posted by: 914dave Mar 18 2017, 04:11 PM

i'm installing my dw design oil tank in my conversion. i have the filler neck from Rebel racing dipstick and cap included. It looks like there should be a hose that slides over the filler neck and the tank neck. Can someone post pics of their's?
thanks
Dave

If the stock tank does use a hose I know for sure the DWD tank will use the exact same hose, every connection on the DWD tank is stock spec.
I'm sure that the stock tank uses this hose, but I can't find a part number.

You can go to the DWD design web site and email Don, he doesn't build tanks anymore, but he's happy to answer questions about them.

Let us know what he says, I need the same hose for my DWD tank. smile.gif

The hose on the filler neck either goes to a puke bottle or into the rubber boot that the airflow meter goes into. On carb motors it goes into the aircleaner.
The only other breather hose is the one on the tank. It goes to the motor. The pictures below are out of the Porsche 914 Clymer manual. They still sell it at Pelican

I bought mine directly from Porsche back in 1986. I don't know if they still sell it.

Dave - I tried to find a stock porsche hose, no luck. None of the stock hoses are long enough. Looked for any hose, including radiator hose, no luck, so I took the stock hose and a second one just like it and joined them with a brass fitting from Home Depot and 2 hose clamps.

I used a 2" radiator hose with a couple clamps. Thanks for the feedback guys.

Dave the hose is a molded part with collars on each end.
Not to say a piece of hose wouldn't work.
I'll have the OE part numbers for you in a few.....
And the width of the clamp too.

I was referring to the long breather hose. If you find something better, let me know.

Hi Dave ,I have a reduced diameter silicone hose as I have PMS filler assembly so not too much help.
The hose you have will do you fine for a while but keep an eye on it the oil may cause it to crap out, silicone would be better.
Check your dipstick after you have put in the required amount of oil for your donor engine while it is warm and running, mine is 7 litres so I added another 1/2 litre and no show on the stick....aftermarket parts eh.

Part no. for the molded rubber is 901.107.691.10
Both Stoddard and Aase have them for $40-45.
Might find them cheaper at Sunset Porsche.

The clamp is a special one, but one of the same diameter should work.
The real one is likely a bit wider than your typical hose clamp.
I found a used one and had it re-plated.

I got mine from an industrial hose and fitting supplier. The kind of place that makes up hydrolic lines for forklifts and dozers. Took the tank and the filler neck in to them.

I'm using the Patrick Motorsports oil tank in my conversion, but I think I may have that clamp in my pile 'o parts.

Rory
The 54 is probably mm's for the diameter.

With our tanks we use a 2 inch silicone coupler for a turbo intercooler applications. I also make out oil fill neck to fit inside the tank and the tank could be clamped down on it if desired. I think the best way really do this would be to use an aluminum v band set up and using 638 loctite to hold the v bands into the respective components.

Hey Dave
Yes, 54 is the clamp diameter in mm
The part number is 999 512 073 02
It is described as 54/25 so 25mm width.
Will your tank and filler neck work work with OE parts ?
Pelican shows it as a good number for $5.75 !! ??

It should work with OE parts. $5.75 sounds optimistic.

Dave whatever solution you come up with, please double the order.
Since I'll be needing the same for my tank.
Thanks bro!
Cheers,Dion

Amazing what the industrial hose/high pressure guys have at their facilities!

The neck is 2 inches, but the barb is .100" bigger so a stiff hose will be damn near impossible to stretch over it. The neck fits into the hole in the tank so it is self supporting.
I'd try to get the silicone or at least a soft stretchy rubber.

Same deal on the vent which is one inch.
