Very nice. I just reproduced the tab and used it as a clamp to hold the base. I bet it doesn't work as well as this.

I've never had one fail. 
The first one I fixed was 32 years ago.

I had one break that same exact way.
I still remember the PITA about getting it tightened and back in the car.
