914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Heureka! Success! It Runs! I'm Happy!

i don't know if you followed my new motor saga/nightmare/10 month of misery, but today was a very special day!

IT RUNS

yepp, it runs. almost perfect. lot's-o-power. schweeeet! boldblue.gif
i got so excited, i was trying to emulate the blue jumping smily, but brad told me to quit it ... sad.gif

here's what we did in a nutshell:
turned dizzy driveshaft 180 deg (into it's normal position),
adjusted valves correctly (thanks jake and what's his face, the guy whos name i forgot),
replaced the ignition system with a MSD 6 system, coil, dizzy, box, wires etc.
ditched the 40 webers and put in a set of freshly rebuild 44 IDF webers.
started her up, tuned the carbs and i was ready to fly!

gawd that feels gud ...
i was losing faith. quickly. then i had a blast on my ~40 mile drive back home from the shop.
well, until i came up on a cop car on 880. didn't wanna pass him because i have expired tags.
no need to push my luck for the day ...

yeah! thank you brad sir! pray.gif

what venturis you have in the 44's?

32? 34? 36?

Posted by: Bleyseng May 7 2005, 11:26 PM

Why was the dizzy drive off 180 degrees?

here are the schpecks ...

=======================
T4 Motor, 2056cc
=======================
stock crank 71mm
96mm Keith Black Pistons
9:1 compression
euro race "H" grind cam
Sachs racing clutch and pressure plate
44 webers
MSD Ignition System
tuna can oil sump
total rebuild with all new bearings
mild port and polish on rebuilt heads with new bronze guides

=======================
Weber 44 IDF Dual Carbs
=======================
Air Corrector Jets = 190
Emulsion Tubes = F11
Main Jets = 145
Venturis = 32mm
Auxiliary Venturis = 4.5mm
Idle Jets = 50

it feels like i'm missing some power on the bottom end, but i'm still running stock HE's and a Manta muffler.
a *real* 4-1 header and gud exhaust should help a lot here ...
nice and smooth transition from idle to main jets, lot's of pulling power.
in fact, we had set the rev-limiter to 6k but the engine pulls so hard up there, when i was hitting the limiter it felt like it still had lots of power left.
i need to step that up a bit rpm-limit wise. i got the heavy duty dual valve springs, so i should be good for some more rpm ...
need to get it on a dyno, that's what i really should do. smile.gif

oh, that reminds me, anyone got a adapter for the MSD 6 box so i can hook up my stock Tach again ??? idea.gif

i *think* the idle jet may be a tad too big ...

50's arent to big for idles. i have 55's..... want to trade? biggrin.gif

well, your engine is not my engine, soooo, i'm not sure about that ... (it's all in the combo, hi jake wavey.gif )

mixture screw all the way down, cylinder dies, half a turn back open, idle is fine, full turn open, no change.
the weber specs say, 1 1/2 turn open for good idle. that tells me that the jets may be too big ...

The expert was the fucking idiot that let the intern do the final assembly that I had rebuild the engine....he also had the linkage set up for an ass dragger.

Was supposed to be a plug and play....

Glad to hear the "saga" is over....

yeah, the DMV fu**ed up ... they were supposed to send me a renewal notice but somehow it went to the wrong address (again).
every time i actually go to the DMV and have them look up my address, it comes up OK, but whenever they send something out, it shows up at the house i haven't been in for over 5 years now ...

wtf? confused24.gif

Woot!!!

Glad to hear all thats over.. To bad, its a month short....

How does it compare to the yeoman 6?

I've always wondered how a hot 4 compares to a hot six and a mild v8 (your 6 was 240rwhp I think, my v8 is 240rwhp)

I don't understand what was wrong with the carbs? Couldn't larger venturis, jets and other mods have been installed?

Based on the PO...those 40s were new.....wierd.
