German Car Night at Escondido's Cruisin' Grand Classic Car Event is this Friday!
Hey folks, some of you have asked about taking your 914s etc. to Cruisin Grand last year ....
Well the Escondido CA "Cruisin' Grand" has a Brit & German Cars Theme Night on Aug. 4th 5-9 pm.
https://cruisingrand.com/events/view/2017-08-04/08-04-2017-week-19-british-german-car-night
It's best to get there early, but you can still come in whenever you can & park along Grand & the side streets where there is space. There are all sorts of Pubs & Eateries along Grand & the side streets, as well as a few Booths/Carts/Roach-coaches with food set up for the event.
I also would NOT worry if yours is a 74-76 914, since they won't know, unless you say so!
This is a weekly event for pre-74 American Classics, but they have a few special weeks where imports are allowed, like this one, Panteras with the Mustangs & Shelby's, etc. So check here for any other Fridays that look interesting to you as well.

This is the main page with the general info at the bottom, which runs March thru September.

So Mike/Cuda911 - how about getting the word out to your PCA-SDR folks too, & I'll do so for OCR.
Tom
///////
OCR now has it up on their website, spacebook page & App, & SDR is looking into maybe making an official Corral there, & will or have added it to their website/App/etc.
So put in for a day off on Friday 8/4, so you can drive there early enough in the day to beat traffic, then grab an early dinner or brewsky before it starts at 5 pm. I-5, I-15/215, & SR-76 do get heavy on Friday afternoons in both/all directions.
Then park your 914 or other classic, & stroll the area of display cars! Keep in mind that the Grand Ave. parking is a rotating thing, with cars coming & going - so the cars on display change all night, while some stay.
I don't know where they'll set up the Brit & German Featured cars as yet.
Cheers!

Just a couple of other suggestions .... & another
Some of you may want to meet up in North Coastal SD County, North Inland SD County, IE, OC & LA areas to Cruise in as a Group too, for a good show of force!
If anyone doesn't want to drive back home that night, there are many nice motels in Escondido & North SD County - so you could make a weekend or Saturday of it in the SD area.
Any hold-overs could meet up for breakfast in Escondido & I can recco a place & meet up with y'all there too, since I'll overnight with my buddy in Escondido anyway.

Put in for your full or 1/2 day off for Friday 8/4/17, so you can make this event!
It would be nice to get a strong 91 turn-out there! Maybe we can outnumber the taildraggers!?
Also, I wouldn't worry about whether your 914 is <72 per their rules, since almost nobody there will know if it's a 70 or 76, but will be glad to see a bunch of them out there.
It's just a cruise-in & display show, so Restomods, engine swaps, etc. will all be appreciated.

'Tis this Friday! Be there, or be square!

I'll be there! But, I'll be in my '76 2002. The 914 isn't ready yet.
I go to this almost every week. Usually just once up and down and then go home. When my daughters want to hang out for a while, we'll park and walk the place.
Always great to see the cars out there. Some classic Porsche and BMW's will only make it better!
There are great restaurants there as well, covering the spectrum of $$$ so, you're covered pretty much no matter what you may want.
Hope to meet some of you there!
I'm aiming to make this one. Parts are due to arrive Wednesday so I should be ready. If they list a designated parking zone, let us know.
I know the guy who organizes most of this. We're putting in a call to him to ask right now.
Not sure if he'll respond, it's always hit or miss but, if he does, I'll post it here.
Just heard back. Supposedly, they are setting up parking on Broadway, south of Grand Ave.

It would probably be easiest to get to that street by turning east on to 2nd ave, from Center City Parkway.
Hopefully that map will work.
Hey Mike,
Did you go to HS in San Diego or North County? .... if so, which?

Cool, but you must be younger than me, cuz there was no San Pasqual when I went to HS.
I was Uni class of `70 (`66-70 when still across from USD & still all boys), & my buddies Mike (`72) & Randy (`69) were Clairmont HS - & we all lived in University City.
We plan to meet at 3:00 pm at the Continental Deli on Kalmia just south of Grand Ave. if I can get my wife going soon enough to beat traffic south from OC for that - whihc is a BIG IF!
We usually start cruising on foot after that, so would be walking around about the time y'all get there at 5-6 pm.
So is your 02 primer grey + Polaris Silver or Fjord Blue?
I don't recall a Polaris Blue in that era, but my 325e is Cosmos Blue, which is close but a tad less bluish than Fjord.
Tom

Hi Tom,
I always call it blue but you are correct, it's Polaris Silver....
Hope to meet you there!
Mike
TODAY - THIS EVENING!
.... Ruck on!

Hah! I pull up, park and this guy walks up to me and says, "Sir, would you mind moving your car to the right side. Only German cars are to park on the left side"!
Our good friends have a business right there in the area and he has been trying to get me there. My car isn't up and running yet, but hopefully soon.
He calls the town "Meth-condido"
Great story Kent!
... I'll bet that nice metallic blue NSU Prince also had him confused!
That was the car my buddy wanted me to go off & see when we were chatting.
.... PS - apparently that same guy was confused about the `73 2002tii noted below, which he did park on the Brit side!
Nice to finally meet you in person last nite too!
MikeM - sorry I missed you & your daughters running around.
Maybe we'll both be able to make the Temecula 914 BBQ next month?
FYI Y'all - here is the link to the Temecula 914 BBQ -
http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?act=ST&f=2&t=312460
Hopefully you saw the nice Polaris `73 02tii there - in addition to the 914s etc. IMHO & based on Kent's comment, you should've just parked your 02 there too, since they don't know models & years - & the 02tii was parked on the Brit side anyway!
I did get to meet up in person with Kent, John, Skip, Curb&gutter, & a few other 914ers whose names escape my only 2 cups of java so far morning brain now.
Lawrence, you should've come anyway with whatever car, just to see all of the various 'Mercun', Brit & German & a few Italians cars & trucks there!
I think there were 6+/- 914s + a few more 914ers without their cars there last night - & the largest of not only the German contingent, but of all the Germans - at least at the N.Broadway featured cars zone, & a few 356/911s out on Grand too.
I didn't get any good pix while there running around & chatting too much, so anyone else feel free to post yer pix here!
They have a few pix up of the award winners on the event page for Cruisin Grand:
https://cruisingrand.com/events/view/2017-08-04/08-04-2017-week-19-british-german-car-night
PSS - The NSU Prince won the German Featured Car Award last night - also an aircooled rear engine car!
.
Cheers!

Nice to have met you as well Tom. Met a few new folks. I think 5 914's were there. Here are a few more pic's
Loved this build. Bob was the creator and I spoke with him at length. It's a VW w/ a Studabaker Lark Dash, Subaru 2.2 NA, 70's Volvo radiator, Model "T" brake/license lamp, Harley Davidson saddle bags, an old ammo box to protect the some electronics and ECU, the radiator is mounted immediately in front of the engine. He bolted up some urethaned 1x4's to act as paddles and force air to the radiator. Very primitive and functional. Check out the Cow Bell hanging next to the license plate. I think Elliot would look nice in one of these.
Thanx for the pix Kent!
Anyone else is welcome to post theirs here too!

Looks like it was great event. I will plan on going next year.
Tom,
I actually drove through with my wife but it was closer to 4:45 / 5:00 pm. The girls had a change of plans.
I saw most of the cars there, some were just beautiful.
I wouldn't mind head up to Temecula but I don't think my 914 will be ready by then. Might just show up to look around. Maybe I'll see you there.
Ken (and everyone) thanks for the pics, They look great!
Mike
