If timing the car (moving the dizzy) doesnt affect RPM at all (at idle) then wtf is going on? Usually it ranges from 500-1500 all across the board.....somebody help
get a timing light.
time it, and be done.
yeaqh i have one, but it makes no difference in sound, idle rpm or performance where the dizzy is.....do i have a vaccuum leak? is it running rich? how do i tell?
in fact the performance very sucks much
My advice to you? Marry a Porsche or VW mechanic. You seem to run into a lot of problems with your car and you should have one at your house all the time.
Changing the timing DOES affect idle speed. Advancing will generally increase idle speed up to a point. Retarding will decrease idle speed right down to the point where the engine will stall.
If changing the timing DOESN'T affect idle speed, well...hm.
Set the timing to factory specs with the light. Rev the engine up to 3000 and make sure the timing actually advances. Past about 3500rpm, it should stop advancing. If there are other problems, you can at least eliminate timing as one of the causes.
Is this EFI or carbs?
D-Jet FI...and NO girl around here knows VWs....i'll check it out tonight.....it works great, just not too peppy like it used to be.

yah miles said something like that last night...WTF? i'm straight. I have a girlfriend already.
Remove distributor cap and see if the advance mechanism is hanging up. If nothing else, you should be able to twist the dizzy guts to see shifting of the advance mechanism. I had a .050 become "fixed", and the accel was F L A T .
okay....i'll check that.. i completly forgot about that AND that will probably affect the response to turning the dizzy.....what should i oil the mechanism with....? Light machine oil or motor oil?
Dolphin wax
why do you use dolphin wax? do the goats like that better?
No, the goat likes duck butter.
M
hijacked his son's thread.....
son of miles and Bessy the goat,

i have both...i'll use dielectric grease then, cause i believe its a water insulator
Hmmmmm, I thought the standard was KY Warming Gel......makes things slide easy and gives you that warm fuzzzy feeling.
What do ducks and goats know anyway?
good insight ron, must be that insider inner-circle 914 Aaron thing....don't tear your O-Ring though.....
