Learned some shortcomings of the car on high speed track

Its geared for about 140 @6700rpm, after the infield when I enter the first of the banked turns Im doing about 120..feather throttle through the banking.. exit turn at about 130? the Pocono Long is way to long for a close geared 914/6

I also bottom the suspsension entering the infield... not cool when your spring rate goes to infintiy @ 100 mph

I havent been at pocono in this configuration for a few years... so I was relearning on that lap.

Any advice on how to produce clearer video?

Thanks for more video Tim.
I think that is as good as it gets unless you slow down or spend big $'s for a new camera.

I can tell that you need to shift to 6th gear.
If I was to run that track in my 4, I would need to add a magazine rack.

As for bottoming out - Just try some different angles to enter the infield.
Just be careful that somebody doesn't put their car where you plan to go.
That works for me and others at the big track here in Vegas.
There are lotsa lines to do the banking --> dip --> pit out section.
What upsets one car is the smoothest way for somebody else.

As far as clearer video, tell me what camera you have and what you use to convert to windows media.

It seems like it's the compression settings you're using, versus the actual video (master), that causes the fuzziness. The video looks like it's extremely compressed. You can tweak the bitrate settings in Windows Media Encoder to improve the quality, if you wish, usually at the expense of file size. Your file could easily mushroom from 6mb to 60mb though...

Yea I wish I had a 6th gear. The drop between 4th and 5th is to much so the engine falls out of the power a bit. At the end of the main straight I was at about 6500 rpm in 5th, redline is only 6700.

So if I had a 6 speed box with a short stack.... hmmm...

Boxter S tranny? ( wonder about gearset availabilty)

As I settled in with the car, and figured out the turn into the infield ( kinda like big bend at LRP)

My speeds went up.. I wasnt bottoming the car on the banking, it was on the turn into the infeild, kinda flat but is really fast and loads up the suspension. I kinda "skipped" around that turn a few times.

The cam I use to video is a Sony DCR-TRV11, the video played directly to TV is awesome, so the source is fine

I use ULEAD 5.0 to convert to *.wmv files.. I like to make the videos streaming so people dont have to wait to download them.

I know there are other formats . I would aprreciate tips and or tricks..

Ive heard turning off auto focus, and asuto exposure is a benefit.

Thoughts?

I find that Cleaner does a great job with WMV files. Sometimes you need to tweek the bitrate and image size to get the best compromise of size and quality.

I turn off the auto focus and lock it on infinity or my camera can't decide if it wants to focus on the dash or the track.
If your video looks good on your TV, that isn't a problem for you.
Mine also vibrates at over 100. Once again, no big problem for you.

Please don't make you vidoes look to much better.
I don't want to start thinking that I need a new camera.

I have coilovers all around.... RSR raised spindles up front, and the revalved RSR 911 threaded body rears.

Springs are 450 front 350 rear

Front sway bar is........ LOL dunno the dia havent played with that yet..

Im surprised I bottomed the suspension, Ive asked many times on this board about spring rates for race/track cars...

Ive been surprised about responses only using 200# rear springs.

I believe I bottom the front end and I am using 450# up front.. Ill do a tell tale test next time on the track, howEver I dont know if any other track I will run on will ask me in this 914 to enter a turn at 140?


what is cleaner? the link (if that was a link) isnt active?


one thing I dont want to do is raise this car its 22 1/2" to fender lip up front..

Ill have the struts shortened and shocks shortened if I have to
