After 43 years, is it time to place an original oil cooler to lower engine temperature? Which brand? 1974 2.0 with carbonators.

Just because? No.

Is it running hot? Drop the motor, pull the top tins off the motor and clean 43 years of crud/leaves/etc off the fins and oil cooler.

And if you really wanna go all in, ditch the single center carb and go with stock FI or dual IDF/HPMX/DRLA carbs.

Do you know it is running hot? Do you have an oil temp gauge ? I had a 1.8 that was running hot. Added an external cooler which brought down the temps. When the engine failed due to stripped teeth on the cam gear I found the original cooler was on the top with oil sludge.
Only fix it if it is broken.
