Wife likes the red Eurovan. And we found (and lost) a place that sells an exterior lift. It tucks neatly below the door, under the van.

We need someone to see if its in decent shape. Only 3 days left, and the holiday prolly won't make it any easier. But, if someone could help...

Thanks (again) for everyone's help.

That looks pretty nice Dave!

Posted by: KaptKaos Jul 3 2003, 03:07 PM

Dave,

I might be able to look at it, but it would be Saturday at the earliest. I would assume that they are closed on Friday.

I am not sure what to look for other than the obvious things. I do not know these vans well. I could vouch for general condition, tires, brakes (if they'll pull a wheel) and how it drives. I might not be much help after that.

If you are serious, get their address and phone number and find out when I could see it Saturday AM. I am about 40 minutes from Mailbu. Being Independence Day weekend, traffic will be rough on PCH. Early, like 7:00 AM would be best.

Let me know.

This red one does look nice.

But I still want the Ziggy Marley Rasta Van. smoke.gif

Hey Dave - Did you get your new chair yet? smilie_rolli_1.gif
(Wow that's pretty cool. This smilie's title has your name on it in the HTML code)

Joe,

I emailed the seller. I looked over the feedback, and it is mostly all good. I think its safe to say the van is in decent condition.

If they're open Sat. and its not a PITA for you, maybe you could just make sure. BUT, I really need to get a hold of Brad BEFORE we do anything.

Anyone know how to reach the a-hole? wink.gif

Posted by: seanery Jul 3 2003, 04:01 PM

Dave,
they are racing tonite, and have to pack the truck and trailer and be out by 9am. So, it's gonna be a long nite.
After that, I'm not sure what his plans are, but I know he only carries 1 cell phone battery, so it's never charged.

Speaking of needing to talk with Brad...if you see him, remind him to call Britain to let me know when to pick him up from the airport tomorrow.

I am in L.A. also though I don't know much about these vans, I could look at it and tell you if it's a shiny POS or not. I e-mailed the seller and asked for an address, phone number and when he was available on Sat. I'll let you know if I hear back from him. If the door handle falls off in my hand, that would be bad, right? cool.gif

Posted by: Dave Cawdrey Jul 3 2003, 06:47 PM

Dave,

Its not too far. I thought it was in Malibu, but it is in Santa Monica, which is a 10 minute ride for me. What time do they open?

I'll be sure to check the door handles and bring my digital camera.

I have a buddy who just joined this board (Mikester) that lives in Santa Monica. Maybe I'll see if he can come along.

Let me know if you want me to take a look.

Dave,

I just talked to Lisa. I will call her Saturday and see if I can go see it in the AM. If I hadn't already had two martinis, I would have driven up there now.

If there is anyone else closer, maybe they could see it tonight.

Let me know if you get other feedback.

Shoot...the one day I didn't check the board at lunchtime and I coulda helped with this. That location is barely a mile from my office.

I won't be back down that way until Monday, but lemme know if any follow-up needs to be done next week. Good luck.

Hi Dave, when I was out checking vans & lifts for you at the beginning I went to a place called Performance Mobility. It does custom work specifically for chair access in whatever vehicle you want. Charlie, the owner & founder of the company is also in a chair so he really knows peoples needs. While talking to him he showed me one of these types of lifts. There are 2 kinds if memory serves. One of them had to do with a chain drive and he mentioned having problems with them if something (I can't remember) wasn't done right. Give Charlie a call and ask him about it. He is a straight person and wouldn't steer ya wrong. Here's the address & phone number.
4347 NW Yeon Avenue Portland, Oregon 97210. Portland Area: (503) 243-2940 .
He did a wheelchair lift for my late wife.

I actually went over there today and took a look at it. Only on the outside though, didn't look terribly bad but it had some oxidation. Through the windows the interior looked acceptable. A little wear on the driver's seat. The wheels are hub caps and the passenger side front looks a bit worn. I didn't see anything glaringly wrong with it, but they were closed and I couldn't get inside.

Joe and I will go again in the morning.

Plymouth? Next thing you know, people will be telling me to get Boodles or some other nonesense. beer3.gif

Continuing the hijack...Again, sorry Dave.

Kapt - Ok, I like the Sapphire. But dude, you've got to graduate your taste buds and give yourself a treat with the Plymouth Gin. I kid you not. Try it and you'll see what I'm talking about. http://www.plymouthgin.com/index.cfm?articleid=85smilie_pokal.gif

I'll pretend you didn't mention Boodles...! beerchug.gif

Dave,

I called the lady three times this morning, nothing but voicemail.

I left a message and I am waiting to hear back from her. I'll keep you posted if I hear from her.

Posted by: Dave Cawdrey Jul 5 2003, 01:13 PM

She prolly had a few too many martini's last night IPB Image

Posted by: KaptKaos Jul 5 2003, 03:26 PM

Dave,

It looks like it may be being bid up by a shill bidder. I never trust new IDs buying big ticket items on ebay the first go around. Makes me concerned.

Too many martinis? How does that happen?

- Joe assimilate.gif

Posted by: Dave Cawdrey Jul 5 2003, 05:42 PM

Still no word from the seller, huh? Wife is liking it more and more cool_shades.gif

Here's the KBB quote: W/out the power steering or ABS is $5800 I am unsure of these options...

Nothing still.

I can look at it tomorrow too, assuming she calls. I don't know what to tell you. You are taking a risk if you go forward. Heck, you were taking a risk by having me look at it. At least then you'd know if it acutally ran or not.

I'll let you know if she calls me and I'll zip on up and take a look-see.

See the first post for the auction.

I've got a 2000 Eurovan Camper. It is equipped with the VR-6 engine. It is very smooth and quiet and probably the only automatic transmission that I have ever liked.

I recently talked to an owner of a Eurovan (passenger version) that was similarly equipped and he had the same feelings about how wonderful his van performed. He also had owned an early Eurovan like this one that had the Audi 5 cylinder engine in it. He said that the engine and transmission were not nearly as well matched as in the new VR-6 models. Instead of being smooth shifters, the early ones were very stiff and he felt that the gearing was not well matched with the result that it didn't shift smoothly or when he thought it should.

I don't have any personal experience with the early Eurovan models, and I don't remember what year they moved to the VR-6. I also can't testify to how mechanically astute this owner is. I figured I'd pass it on just for information.
