914World.com _ 914World Garage _ L-Jet Airflow Sensor Not Closing?

Posted by: PDXMike Jul 22 2017, 12:24 PM

1975 1.8 L-Jet. Looking inside the Airflow Sensor I noticed something that seemed strange. There is a metal wireform attached to the wiper arm. (See photo) It LOOKS like when the flap is closed that wireform should hit the leaf spring at the top right corner of the PCB and open the switch. That is not happening.

What does that switch/contact do? Should I care?

That switch turns on the fuel pump when the flap opens. Does your pump run when you just turn the key to on, not running or cranking? Is the flap binding and not closing all the way keeping the switch from opening?

My pump DOES run all the time. I'll dig in to see what's binding up.

Thanks!

Some times an intake back fire can damage the flapper and might have caused this...
