VDO made just such an item way back when.....
I have one. It's a hard rubber or plastic item.
Let me get you some pics.

Hmmm. They were a vendor on this site a few years ago it I can't find a link either. I can look thru my paperwork at home but I won't be there for 3 weeks. Hopefully someone can help before that. It's a simple design. Literally an L shaped bracket with 2 mounting holes on the short leg and 2 gauge holes on the long leg. Remove the 2 screws that hold the ashtray mount to bottom of dash and install L gauge mount. I moved mine to under the dash using the same mount shown below.

VDO made one I've had in my '71 since the early '70's. Don't know if they still make it. Fits perfectly where the ashtray was...
Thought I had a better picture but can't find it- sorry for lousy image, but you can barely see it..

That's exactly what I am looking for. Hope someone knows where to get one.

VDO makes a nice rubber one that fits nicely. You do need to cut off the angled top section and drill holes to use the ashtray mounting holes, but it fits nicely. They ar still listed in the VDO catalog, so should still be available. If not, a two gauge metal racket is also available. l

It's a "rubberized" pod- maybe metal inside but definitely not metal on the outside. Does not look like the one just above. My picture doesn't show it well, but it does have an angled part on the top that could be shaved off.

Not to
but I wonder if anyone makes a gauge pod that attaches to the left side windshield pillar?

VDO part number 240 803 is the rubber mounting two gauge bracket (though the picture is wrong). It's available directly through VDO on their website. Summit Racing carries the metal bracket.

I called Summit Racing and was told the rubber bracket that holds two is no longer available. VDO no longer makes it.

Or maybe the VDO website:
https://www.vdo-gauges.com/accessories/instrument-mounting.html
I emailed VDO and their response:
"That double rubber gauge mounting bracket has been discontinued.
