914World.com _ 914World Garage _ New to me 914

Posted by: Mike1981 Aug 12 2017, 05:43 AM

Hello teeners

I just picked this 72 up in Tennesee.
She has a V8 COnversion

(sorry not a true 914)

But truly fun to drive

Just looking for some advice please

She came with 916 GT bumpers and a flare kit

I'm leaning toward selling these and buying standard 72 front and rear bumpers

Could anyone tell me how much can I expect from selling these?

Also advice on keeping the bumpers?

cut re-glass flush with fenders??

Thank you for buying that car.
Been eyeing it up on Craigslist the past couple of weeks.
You may have saved my marriage!
Love the color combo.

Congrats! I've seen that car a few times on Craigslist in the AL/TN area in the last couple years. I've always thought it looked really nice....especially like the wheels, don't know what kind they are, but they look great!

Thanks

I'm told the wheels are custom

8" in front 9" in rear

The rear is lifted so the wider wheels would clear the fenders

Is it just me?

Photobucket sucks. Use Google photos. https://photos.google.com/

The rear is lifted to clear the tires? OMG, stop the redneck madness. Glad you are getting a grip on this project. Lose all the stupid afterbits and make this car right again. smile.gif

i think it is working now!

Your pictures are working now.

I think you should sell the front and rear 916 glass and buy some stock bumpers. I think they look the best without the flares on.
You would need to cut and fill the glass now and that would be a lot of work and it would not be as easy to sell the glass bumpers later if you wanted to after you shorten them for the fit without flairs.
A lot of guys like the 916 look but you would have to put the flares on. In the end what do your want? Do you like the look of 916? Add up just how much it will cost you to do it. I had a Black 74 914-8 car with a 916 body in glass on it and a lot of people liked it.
I bought it to sell it.

Thanks for the advice

I do have the kit for sale

I hope to get enough to buy standard bumpers

That front bumper looks to be the correct shape and not a cheap knock off. Are there any part numbers on it?

Posted by: Mike1981 Aug 15 2017, 05:14 AM

That is a good question

I will jack the car up and take a look underneath

Posted by: AZ914 Aug 15 2017, 07:06 AM

Agree with above, that car looks great! I'd go with some stock or fiberglass stock-look bumpers. Looks like that 916 rear is for a flared car.

Congrats!

Thanks for the advice everyone

I just sold the flares and have re-listed the bumpers
