Hello-- longtime Por-sche fan!
New to this forum…excited to find this group.
I have the opportunity to pick up a 1970 914-6 in need of rust repair, minor hell-hole issues but I suspect the driver’s side pan and longitude may need major repairs; seems water has gathered in the driver’s side seat corner by the parking brake. I expect the worse in that area but the rest of the car seems pretty free of rust, some surface rust but very clean compared to some I have seen. Fenders look clean and the trunk and taillight area looks super clean with original paint.
It started its life in Southern California and has been in the high desert of Southern Arizona for over 40 years. Sadly it has been parked under a tree for the past 3 years, it was running with a bad fuel pump when parked. The car is complete with the exception of the velour interior, has 75K miles on the odometer and seems to have never been in an accident.
Question for the forum.
Guesses, estimates, suggestions on the metal work repairs...
How much can I expect to spend on just the metal work specific to the driver’s side? Ie complete longitude and jack post repairs on driver’s side and rear portion of pan.
Apologies for the broad questions just trying to size up the project.
I am in Phoenix looking for a shop competent to complete the repairs.
Patrick Motorsports is on my list, they will be the first to look at car when I get it.
Also found Deluxe Custom in Tempe, very impressive group of 356’s being brought back to life.
Trying to close the deal in the next few days, wish me luck.

If you're having PMS look at it, they will be able to give you a much better estimate than just spit balling the brief description you listed above. Good luck with the car.

Terrific to see another member joining that plans to restore an original Six. You have hit the ground running by finding this forum. Lots of great people, resources and information here. Take a look at my build threads (Part 1 & Part 2 look under my signature line) to get an idea of what you may be faced with.

Read everything you can find about builds, restorations, etc., and come up with a comprehensive plan to get your car back in shape. Of course, you have to post tons of pictures so we can all enjoy the process with you. The good, the bad and the ugly.

If you can get it for less than $30,000 don’t look back. You can ck it out and if it is more than you can handle you can always sell it for a profit.

I am sure the mileage is over the 70,000 so it may be 170 or 270. There are a lot of guys here that have done there own rust repair and they save a lot of money by doing the repair themselves. I do not think you can guess on the repairs at this point.

Invest in the car and I guess you will be happy with you buy or you can turn a profit.

They are not making any more and the real deal is a very good investment.

Welcome to the world. The people here have so much knowledge on 914 and some other Porsches plus there talent is unreal. O, did I say they are some of the nicest Porsche people you will ever meet.

Also be aware that PMS is rather on the expensive side of thing, they do good work though.

If you are at all handy with a welder, almost all the sheet metal can be had from here:

Check the VIN to be sure it's a real -6 , it should start with 914. If it is real, have the rust repair correctly repaired by a shop that has the knowledge to do it correctly. Patrick would certainly be a good place to have it checked over to see.

really these guys clip the ticket by charging huge money by name, from resto's and their parts are sometimes over the moon ,but yes they do good work.
The resto on a genuine car requires good planning and getting it all on paper,quotes ,estimates and contracted completion dates if not it may make you miserable,a finished car is very valuable.....if it is as you say.
We NEED pictures ok......

How about posting some pictures of your car. Pull off the rocker panels. We have a lot of talented people on this site that can give you an idea of what you have got.
