Looked for transmission serial number for COA. Found what looks like a part number, 914.301.101.00. Is this the serial number? If not, where located? ' 73 2.0 side shifter.

Bottom rib on the case.

Right on the bottom of the rib, it will look something like below. Sometimes if the trans has been dragged across the floor many times it's wore off, more often it's totally covered in grease/grime.

They changed the stampings in the 72 or 73 model year. Yours looks fine.

As I recall that serial number also is the date of manufacture in a day/month/year configuration with only the last digit of the year being represented ... March 6, 1973 in your CASE.

Ha! I suppose I should explain that the transmission has been off the car and moved from storage shed to storage shed for decades. Even then, it gets heavier every time I lift it.
Hopefully, I'll get it reunited with the engine and car in the not too distant future. 
Oh wait, or are you talking about my dumbells. Those are helium balloons!
