And your paint looks nice... very nice.

Sorry about that, brother...... mine is a piece of just, and NEVER gets as much as a scratch.

Go figure.

Posted by: ndfrigi Aug 21 2017, 06:34 PM

wow sorry for what happened to your baby!

Posted by: aharder Aug 21 2017, 06:43 PM

I'm just hoping her insurance will step up to the plate and repair it correctly.

Posted by: tygaboy Aug 21 2017, 06:52 PM

Noooo! So sorry. Hang tough and remember that it can be fixed!

PS: Now would probably be a good time to fix that upside down turn signal lens.

Posted by: porschetub Aug 21 2017, 06:59 PM

Sorry to hear, not too bad, makes me wonder about owners of real 914/6's you would be very cautious going on current sales prices confused24.gif .

Take it from me been there ,got hit exactly like your from a rav 4

Do not let insurance co. Touch your 914

When it comes to camrys corollas , accords
Insurance co. Are experts

When its a 914 , have it repaired by someone good . That YOU pick

If you have to pay outta your own pocket so be it before you let some ass hat from a (insurance approved body shop)touch it
(Biggest scam ever )

You described my feelings exactly. Mine isn't exactly in top condition, but everything is there and it works/runs. Whenever I take it out, I watch extra carefully. People are too busy with their phones to pay attention to that little sports car next to them...

Posted by: steuspeed Aug 21 2017, 09:19 PM

Was this while your car was parked? Mine got swiped while parked once. I park super defensive now.

Posted by: Ed_Turbo Aug 21 2017, 09:31 PM

Friggin idiots don't appreciate something nice. That is why I park away from other cars or double park ( rolleyes.gif ). Put too much time and money for some loser in a KIA that gives a crap about cars.

What is your insurance provider? Hope is Hagerty. If not, like the bro said make sure you go to your own repair shop that knows about fixing classic porsches, etc. insurance companies and modern repair shops do not deal with these types of cars.

Posted by: Coondog Aug 21 2017, 09:41 PM

Bummer, but look on the bright side........time to delete the warts and back date the bumpers

Posted by: Spoke Aug 22 2017, 05:51 AM

Dammit! All the pieces of shit cars running around and she hits your 914.

Make sure to inspect your front turnsignal LED board is ok.

Posted by: BillC Aug 22 2017, 06:01 AM

That sucks! Hope you can get it fixed quickly and easily. Good luck.

Posted by: McMark Aug 22 2017, 06:05 AM

That SUCKS!!!!

But it's looks like a very small bump, relatively speaking. It's just one picture, but from what I see, that fender can be metalworked straight without any cutting, welding, or piles of bondo.

Condolences.

Looks very fixable. welder.gif

Posted by: slotty008 Aug 22 2017, 01:47 PM

Also check if the lens housing isn't bent. Mine are both bent and I didn't see it when I bought the car. So maybe it would be a good idea for me to park my car where I expect it to be hit evilgrin.gif
But in your case, I'm very sorry sad.gif

It is heart breaking to see something like that happen.

That is one of my big concerns when taking my car to run errands. You want to enjoy your car but you have to interact with people who just don't care enough anymore.

I use Motorcycle defensive rules applied to the 914 experience when I drive it.

Posted by: sb914 Aug 23 2017, 12:49 PM

I drive my 914 like I'm on a Motorcycle. Someone try's to hit me almost every time I drive it. We're so low, people can't see us.
Sorry they got you!

Sorry to hear about the damage. Total pain.

I was just about hit 2 weeks ago on I-90 by an SUV changing lanes into me due to the 914 being so low, and they being inattentive. Luckily I could move into another lane with no issue. Using the horn may have alerted her, but I was too busy saving my ass.

Terms of my collector car insurance say I am not allowed to run errands since parking lots and stop and go traffic have the greatest likelihood of accident. Statistically they are correct and it's the price I have to pay, so to speak, for cheap rates. Besides the times I do drive it make those drives more special.

Good luck with your settlement.

Sorry but letting some jackass insurance agent tell you when and where you can drive your car is a really puss move .

Posted by: mzalanka Aug 24 2017, 10:17 AM

Sorry, that's a dick thing to say. SOP for most affordable collector car policies including the companies endorsed by PCA. You have to have your car garaged and you don't get to DD it.

Some of us don't have unlimited funds, have kids or other constraints on our budgets, and don't DD our cars. The price differential with a CC policy can be huge and can make having a nice weekend car an affordable option.

Are you sure that your terms actually say that? Most of the CC policies that I have seen lately specify a maximum yearly mileage instead of being too restrictive on where you can drive it. The mileage restriction keeps you from using it as a DD but you can still run an errand if you wanted to.

Gee, It doesn't take me long to see who the problem child is.

How about you call Grundy and tell them what you just told the list then see how fast they cancel your policy. If you are operating outside of the insurance plans rules _that you agreed to _ , at minimum you are not covered and at max committing insurance fraud.

Specialty car insurance generally costs less because there is less risk to cover. ( less miles , only on sunny days, owners are more careful and hopefully responsible. )

For those that don't understand how insurance works:

An actuary ( whom is like an accountant except they don't have a personality ) looks at risk factors from past losses then calculates future losses. This is further broken down as to drivers , cars , areas that add / subtract from the median risk.

The cost of losses is divided by the number of insured then admin costs and profit are added in to generate a yearly cost of insurance. Add more risk by driving more and your share of the risk ( what you pay ) needs to go up.

In other words, insurance is shared risk as in: " I can't afford to pay for a total loss of this item so I chip in to cover the losses of others as they will do the same if I suffer a loss.

Do you have full coverage or liability only? Is it a standard insurance policy or specialty?

If full coverage, your insurance co may try to " total loss " the car. This happens frequently on "other brand of older car" list I'm on. Also, with full coverage, there is " Stated value" and Agree value" The policy needs to be carefully read as one is a not to exceed value than can be pushed down at time of loss and the other a "car is gone, we pay the full amount you signed up for.".

Ill check my policy but
When i got the insurance thru grundy 10 years ago
They told me , "no mileage restrictions "

And how are they to say that i was running errands or
Driving to a car show ?

I mean the whole biz of insurance is trying to fuucc over people
Why should i be so honest to them ?

Posted by: thelogo Aug 24 2017, 08:50 PM

minimum you are not covered and at max committing insurance fraud.

Fraud for running errands, whats the world comin too
...................

That will never stick

The second insurance agents start talking limitations
And restrictions, i hang up the phone ( hagerty )

I mean whats the point of having a old volkswagen
If there are restrictions smoke.gif ? ???

It is still a free country ? Right flag.gif

I remember 1 old guy who's a member here
Who said he would get behind the wheel of his 914
Drink old scotch, smoke a cigar
Fucc a hooker and drive down the road with a big smile ....

Call me sentimental but i kinda took this guy as a role model .

This guy too
