914World.com _ 914World Garage _ little boy Easton In ICU

Posted by: pete-stevers May 19 2005, 03:02 PM

My little 2 1/2 year old boy has been in ICU since fri.....
We brought him in to Childerens with hopes that he needed more O2,due to a chest infection,
15min later he had a double cardiac arrest from very high pulmonary pressures
they massaged his chest, and got him back in minutes but his heart has taken a hit and we are hopefull that a recovery will be made,
He is still in ICU and in fragile but stable condition the docs are great but ultimately he is in God's hands

Thnks
steve

Our little man is still in critical condition today eight days later, He is stable but does not have a lot of reserve, Sher and I will continue to fight for him as best we can ...the Doctors are great but cannot predicte the outcome, whether the heart will heal, The right side is enlarged and not pumpiing properly due to the pulmonary hypertension, which is now beeing treated. We have hopes that this will improve.... I really wish he was back at home.....

Many positive thoughts and prayers headed your way.

I'll have Hunter return the favor from the many positive thoughts and prayers sent his way from my friends here on the Club.

Keep us posted and don't give up.

Pay attention to what the doctors say and do. Remember you are Easton's health advocate when he is unable to tell you how he feels. And... there are times when the parents know best, not the doctors. Trust your instincts.

Hugs and kisses.

Do your best. Be there for him. Be a Dad.

Good luck.

If I can be of any resource to you...don't even hesitate...I have lots of contacts for information.
Also in my prayers! God speed for a quick recovery for your little man wub.gif

Easton and your family are in my prayers.

I can only imagine what you are going through. This weekend I was able to babysit my 17-month-old grandson. He is such a joy! When he was born my daughter had to go through an emergency C-section because of stress on the umbilical cord - I've never felt so helpless, sick and scared in my whole life. I'm sure it's nothing compared to what you are feeling. The thought of something like this happening to my Nate is just devistating.

I spoke to Steve this evening.

Easton is hanging in there. He still on the oscillator (type of ventilator). They have him sedated so that he won't fight the machine. The goal is to build his lung capacity back up and then work him back to a regular ventilator.

The are aggressively treating Easton's pulmonary hypertension. Tomorrow he has a catheter study to look at the right side of his heart.

Easton has a long road ahead of him, but Steve and his wife Sher are staying strong.

Please, continue to keep him in your thoughts and hopefully we'll here from Steve with some good news very soon.

Regards,

Karl

Well guys...its been a long haul in ICU and it looks like it will be longer.....Easton has been stable for four days now, but he is still on the edge.
We sat down with a bunch of docs this morning and talked about the direction of Eastons therapy....Some great ideas presented and another drug to drop pressures in his arteries, he is already using 3.
I can't really get into all the details, but i now have more hope of him coming home, He is still very fragile, but we have hope!!
Our family has been praying around the clock for him.
I would like to thank you for your continued prayers and support as well smilie_pokal.gif

Easton is making progress one little step at a time, however in the ICU sometimes it is one step foward two steps back, he is fighting higher temps from a secondary infection, but has made progress on the ventelator coming down on O2 requirements....he is still very sedated. The drugs for his pulmonary hypertension seemed to boost him up a bit last nite Our Nurse told us that we are now living day by day, and not hour by hour, (that is progress!!!) We are hoping for a miracle smilie_pokal.gif

Admins, Can we get this topic nailed?

Posted by: Qarl May 28 2005, 07:09 PM

Hey guys (and gals).

I heard from Steve.

Little Easton is not doing so well this evening. He is taking some major steps in the wrong direction and both Steve and his wife Sher (along with the doctors) area getting increasingly concerned. It seems that Easton is taking two steps backwards for every step forward and it's starting to add up now.

The Peter family needs you now more then ever to pray for Easton and keep him in your thoughts.

We have accomplished a lot together and all I ask is that you say a prayer for Easton tonight.

Please keep this message bumped.

Regards,

Qarl

P.S. Attached is a picture of Steve and Easton.

he is weaker by the day.... we are still praying for a miracle but the possibilities are grim, we expected to lose him last night.....but we are still here today....He is a tough kid but we are not expecting him to make it under these curcumstances, having said that MIRACLES do happen.... This takes my breath away ... and brings back vivid memories. Steve, I am so, so sorry that you, your wife and family are going through this.

Our first child, Benjamin, born 28 years ago, had a severe heart defect that we sought to correct. His surgery was successful but his kidneys never recovered from the anesthesia. He died from pneumonia after two weeks in the Stanford ICU. He was 9 months old.

Those two weeks were made up of very long, very intense days. The messages about Easton makes it seem like it was yesterday. I think I know how you feel.

My sympathies to you and your family. You have our continued prayers for a miracle.

With God nothing will be impossible.

In our world of budgets, long-range planning and computers, don't we find it hard to trust in the unbelievable? Don't most of us tend to scrutinize life behind furrowed brows and walk with cautious steps? It's hard for us to imagine that God can surprise us. To make a little room for miracles today, well, it's not sound thinking.....We forget that "impossible" is one of God's favorite words.

I'm not surprised that there is no news from Steve - I'm sure we are the last of his concerns right now - but when he checks in I want him to know that the prayers of his friends here have not stopped and won't until we know that Easton is OK. I'm continuing to pray for a miracle for Easton and for strength for Steve & Sher. pray.gif

(Ok, so the smiley doesn't quite fit, but it's called "worship" and it's the closest I could find to anything that looks like being down on your knees in prayer.)

No... I left a voicemail for him on his cell last night. I am hoping to hear back some time soon.

If things are complicated, I am sure that a bunch of car nuts are the least of his concerns.

I am still hoping for some sort of positive news... hoping... and hoping.

I am constantly thinking about Easton, hoping for a miracle. It's been tough.

Thanks guys for keeping the thread going.

From what I know, Easton is in the ICU on an occillator. This requires him to be paralyzed. I believe he isn't awake either.

I don't think ICUs take well to flowers and balloons.

Let's wait for some news.

Thanks,

That makes perfect sence. I just hope we get to send Easton something and not flowers to his parents if you know what I mean.

Posted by: Headrage Jun 2 2005, 04:55 PM

How about something for the parents. I'm sure they are spending every free minute with the boy and probably don't have time for the little needs like meals and such. Maybe we could set them up with dinner or something else to help ease the stress level.

Posted by: pete-stevers Jun 3 2005, 02:38 PM

Hi guys....
I have been spending the last week by Eastons side since Sunday.... we where told by docs he would not make it, and I agreed it did look to be the end, his blood pressures where criticly low, he was unable to keep his O2 levels up to resoanable levels considering the support he was getting for moments in time the saturations dipped to the fiftys, normal being 100.....Sher and I where talking about his memorial service, We made molds of his little hands and feet for keepsakes......We pulled the support drugs, that where supposedly allowing his lung function to work....We where prepared to give him back to God,
And then.....
His O2 levels rose
His blood pressures rose
his kidneys started to work agian
The Doc who had told us on Sunday....now came to us and said we have hope that he may pull through....he might not make, it but we have hope......
We are prepared for both eventualities
But we have hope, funny thing eh?
So again thanks for all your prayers and please continue to do so
steve

I received an update from Steve... this time not so upbeat. sad.gif

Easton's body has really been worn down with all of the drugs and treatments.... He is very weak and doesn't seem to be responding to what the doctors are doing.

Easton's biggest problem his is heart... it is very fragile. With the extreme hypertension and all of the other issues... his heart is the weakpoint right now.

We really need to pray for a miracle for Easton.

Steve and Sher are worn out and are running out of ideas... and hope.... I have told them to be positive and ask God for a sign from Easton...

Please send some positive 914club vibes your way.

Thanks everybody.

Not that $$ will solve the problem, but how are we doing?

Posted by: Qarl Jun 6 2005, 09:55 AM

We have about $1700 plus a couple of checks coming (unknown amounts), plus the contribution from my family.

Money won't solve the problem, but it can ease the burden of the family right now, medical bills, help cover the expenses for going back and forth to the hospital, gas, meals... and, hopefully, for Easton for after he recovers.

Steve also has two businesses that are unattended to, about an hour away back home.

I will post an update from Steve when I hear something.

Thanks everybody.

What are the businesses? Any way we can help... or do Greg and others have that covered?

Posted by: rick 918-S Jun 6 2005, 11:47 AM

Sandy gave me the go-ahead to sent in a donation from our family. But the Bid for the Alien photo's is still going until 12:00 pm tonight. There will be more coming from that. If that helps get a higher donation from someone or gets a second donation from someone so be it. Money won't solve anything here. But maybe cushion some small part of the worry. It's all we can do from where we are to where you are.

You guys are unbeilevable!!!
I would like to let you all know that Eastons lung X-rays were improved from is last one, The two Intensivists we talked to this morning told us that he was slightly improved, and his erregular heartbeats could be attributted to a mineral imbalance, hopefullly, we have yet to see them again.....We are still hoping for a miracle, but after being told last week he would not make it along with all the other ups and downs we are tired, very tired of this roller coaster
Our doc told us to get out of the hospital to see the real world, we have not been out of ICU,sleeping in the parents room for over 12days...I am taking Sher out for a drink tonight...We also have some very supportive and strong seasoned nurses signed on as primary nurses, If Easton makes it , it is going to be long haul and a result of prayer and merciful God
Thanks for your support and your prayers

Just a quick note ... we made it through another nite, spent it sleeping on the ward, just in case....
, the docs seem positive yet hesitant to predicict an outcome either way.... but my little boy continues to amaze them, and confound them...
His heart and lungs are the big issues, at this moment his heart is the main concern with unusual rythms and pauses....
This last week was such a roller coaster ride for Sherida and I. We are hoping for a little improvement, from the steriods that were started on fri.

I don't know if Easton has needed blood but if so, and if the hospital is served by the Red Cross, I believe any of us can donate near our homes for his account. There may be a problem with Easton being in Canada but the whole question is worth exploring.

No... Steve, Sherida, Markus and Easton live near Vancouver, BC.

Steve's family and I met online through my my914-6.com website and I introduced him here about 7 months ago.

Maybe you're thinking of me and Hunter. We live in Florida.

As you are out working or playing with you car this weekend take a quiet moment and say some words for Easton and his family. And dont forget the good folks at the hospital.

Posted by: CptTripps Jun 11 2005, 08:02 AM

My wife is a pediatrician and spends a lot of time in the Pediatric-ICU, and Neonatal-ICU. I hear lots of stories...good and bad. Remember that there are miracles that happen every day. Some small, some large...

I think about Easton a lot...our prayers are with you.
