Sorry to say I can't make it this year. Too many other events and activity trying to get my car together for next year's WCC.

But I know you guys will have a blast!

I know I registered for this already but I don't see the link anymore for this event, its not in the future event section either confused24.gif

Yes Garold, youve registered and we look forward to seeing you again this year.
I believe the original thread is under Future Events but its tough to find.
I for one dont care for the new format, burying events under several layers essentially takes them out of the main stream and minimizes the enthusiasm that this site could continue to provide for future events. As I tell my folks, not all new ideas are good ones.

Hawk,

I agree, It's tough to find & out of the normal traffic flow. I wish they would go back to the original format.

My 2-cents worth. Old way was better.

Tom
BTW Gint. Been watching your car site. It's beautiful. Hope it see you & car in 2006. Best of show 2006.

Yep I found it, just need to skroll down a bit dry.gif

I have to agree, I too do not like the new format for events. IMHO old format was better.

Boy did we fall back there. Cant admin nail this like you are doing for your other upcoming West Coast events? Simple request Brad. Thanks.

Posted by: dralf May 26 2005, 05:34 AM

driving.gif I am glad there is some activity regarding this event, I thought I was going to be the only one to show up for it ! THat would have been bad in one way but then again if I was the only one there I would have WON all the contests and events !

Getting excited, I am getting my front end aligned today and a few adjustments and a few tinkers and I should be all set. Hope to hear from some some of you guys near Dayton so we can work/plan on a caravan up there and back.

Posted by: Hawk May 26 2005, 10:45 AM

Believe me, you wont be the only one there! We've been un-nailed form the top of the garage and buried several layers deep so the event is not that apparent anymore.

Check the website for judging criteria so you are prepared in advance, especially for the factory stock classes. mueba.gif

The shirt order goes in next week so if you want additional let us know by registering now and designating sizes.

Brad hasn't taken an active role in managing this site in some time Dick. Just an FYI.

The event thread will be pinned in the garage area (here) two weeks prior to the event. That's pretty much the criteria we've used for some time now regardless of the event's location.

Posted by: CptTripps May 27 2005, 06:08 AM

But don't the major events usually get a little more 'nail time'? One could argue that an event like this is a little more important than a Breakfast?

Then everybody complains that there are too many nailed threads. You can't win.

We are discussing this issue (yet again) amongst the admins.

Posted by: rick 918-S May 27 2005, 07:11 AM

I have a suggestion. An event that runs more than a day gets nailed longer than like the breakfasts and like when someone flies out to a populated 914 area and we go to Hooters for the evening.. Just a thought.... biggrin.gif

That's a good suggestion Rick. I like it. Let's see what the rest of the club has to say.

Posted by: Hawk May 27 2005, 07:59 AM

We renamed our event to that of Mid West Classic last year at the request of 914world.com

I thought we would get the same consideration as the WCC that had its active logo present on the index page of 914world.com since you wanted to standardize large 914 events across the USA.

We are feeling less than supported by you. So what's up?

Months of planning are wasted if you post us only 2 weeks before the event. You are not being very helpful to a large group of 914 folks who need advance planning to travel great distances.

Please nail us again.

Posted by: Gint May 27 2005, 08:20 AM

Point taken Dick. I think I've shown you here that we are working to address your concerns. We are considering the concerns of the entire member base also. Please be patient.

Have you made a specific request to any of the admins for this? Jeroen is the web content wiz. PM him or any of the admins with specifics and I'm sure we can arrange it.

QUOTE

I assume you mean by 914world.com and not me personally. I flew out for the event last year. If that's not support I don't know what is. But as I said before, we (914world.com) are working to address your concerns.

QUOTE

That seems to be a bit on an exageration. You guys always pull off a great event. There is an event thread in the "Future Events" forum. And this thread is getting plenty of air time. But as I said before, we (914world.com) are working to address your concerns.

Posted by: Hawk May 27 2005, 10:55 AM

Mike,
No personal diatribe intended. I'm sure youre doing your best. I'm frustrated. There is additional conversation about this that has transpired in PM but not appropriate for writing here. Actually its disappeared from my inbox.

Posted by: SirAndy May 27 2005, 11:37 AM

guys, we are discussing this in length among the admins right now. we moved all upcoming events into a new, separate forum, simply because the front page was becoming much to cluttered, with more and more events being organazied, we had over 10 nailed threads at any given time ...

i agree that bigger events should probably be treated different than breakfasts etc.

we might want to consider promoting the MWC (and other big events) on the home page and in the header, just like we did with the WCC ...

in addition, we should nail them in the main forum, probably more like 6 weeks before the event, so people can still sign up for them ...

i think in the long run, the "future events" forum will work, people will get used to it.
plus, you can always create a thread in the main forum to remind people and link to your main thread. bump this in the main forum to keep it alive ...

these are all things that are being discussed by the admins as we speak.
please hang in there, we'll have a workable solution soon, i promise ...

The wifey was asking about the lake WI/MI ferry idea that we all kicked around last year. Why didn't that work out again? The idea of 3 hrs jammed up going through Chicago/Gary traffic is really bringing me down.

p.s. but the house has a 3.5 car garage with ceiling height for lifts and i could put a car sidewise in front!

Took it for a test drive with readjusted valves and a few chnges in the FI system. Sounded and ran great around the block, but after a 70 mile test drive down and back to my sons house, there is a problem with the electrical system, Altenator ? and I must have bad valve guides for it smokes under deceleration. Honestly its not bad depending on what time of day you hit that area. If you can hit that area after 9:30 am and before 3:30 pm you should (note I said should) be able to move throught there pretty pain free. It may be a little stop and go but once you get past the 294/94 interchange (torrence ave) its 3 lanes each way.

You could also try and work your way from Halsted to Throton - Lansing to Ridge Rd (aka RT 6) but I am not sure if Throton - Lansing road is open yet OR Halsted down to RT 30 then take either Cline or Kennedy AVe back up to 94. The down fall with both these other routes is all the traffice lights.

Don't make me kill you Garold. laugh.gif

Here's what I know bro. I have gone through that disaster area probably 10 times in each direction. I've gone through at times from 10:00 am through 11:30 pm. Each and every time I have gotten goatfuched. Heading to last year's MWC was quite memorable, getting stuck motionless for nearly 3 hours from 11:00 am until about 2:00. headbang.gif Good thing the Silver Streak was on a trailer. Going home, I got boned for about 45 mins without moving, and that was at 10:00 pm. The V8 cools just fine, as long as I'm moving. Anything over 15 mins without moving would make me nervous. If I can take that risk out of the mix, it would make for a much more enjoyable trip.

Posted by: itsa914 Jul 26 2005, 10:38 AM

I know it is a real crap shoot trying to get through there. The problem is construction is everywhere in that area. headbang.gif

I don't know maybe look at going through Chicago and take the skyway over to I80. You could then either stay on I80 (Indiana toll road) to I69 then to I94 or get off on I80 at Cline Ave and get back on I94. confused24.gif

There is no real good way that doesn't either take you way out of your way OR has like a billion stop lights.

Option B - if need to, could I leave my car at someones place up there either before or after the MWC for a few days while we go to Canada?

Posted by: Hawk Jul 28 2005, 08:43 AM

Garold,
Sorry to hear that. At this time, all dinners are committed and paid for the banquet. We would mail you your event bag if you dont show but cant rebate you the $ now. If you make it and need to leave your 914, I can house it in my garage 20 minutes from the MWC venue. Hope you can still make it in person though. Pray for the best.

This is my first time out for a long drive with my 914. Any pointers on what to bring. Also is there going to be any time to wrench on the cars, my emergency brake doesn't work and I would like someone to help me fix it if it's easy.

Hi Guys,

Garold,
Sorry to hear about your Aunt passing away. Be sure to take care of family first. I am not sure if you will attend or not by the message. You asked about taking you to my (secrete) parts yard on Fri. Can't do it, we will have to talk about your part needs later. Hope everything works out & stay in touch.

Tom (Curvie)
Looking forward to seeing you. Been a long time.
BTW
Have you seen that "Grasshopper" yet??? You know the one you thought you saw?? Hee Hee.

Nickm1
Come & do whatever you want. This is a social event. We all like to hang around & give advise to the experts doing repairs.

Hey All,
I have a room reserved for Fri & Sat night at the motel (Best Western). I am going to cancell Fri night and keep it only for Saturday night. Anyone needing a place to flop can share my dbl. bed room.

Tom

That's surprising....there are only a hand-full of us on the board that are active...and most of the active ones aren't coming.

It'll be great to meet everyone!
