Finally got it out of the shop after a long, long wait for a Mallory distributer cap and rotor. The old one fried somehow. Great to drive it again.
Was it a Unilite ? What went wrong ? I've been using the Unilite for about 10 years; worst thing that has occurred is the module went south. Always keep a spare !
Unknown if Unilite. Came with the distributer. Looks like center electrode broke. Rotor cracked too. Plan on getting a spare rotor and cap.
I fixed my cap with the same issue by cutting a brass replacement ran it for 4 years no issue, but replaced the cap last tune-up. I kept the old cap just in case.
If it's a unilight it will have a module, if not it will have one or two sets of points. Just by the cap it's a red top which is the same body, etc as a unilight.
Older Mallory red tops are not drilled to self oil and have a manual oil point on the dizzy body, it looks like a ball bearing, you push it in with a pin oilier and add a couple drops of oil every so often.
Are the Unilite caps still available ?
My current Unilite is 10 years old
Summit Racing has them, SOP Mallory, Ordered one, delay is 3-4 weeks till in stock to ship.
MAA-271
Distributor Cap, Female, Socket-Style, Red, Clamp-Down, Mallory, L4, Each
(Mfr. #: 271)
Thanks for all the info. Good stuff.
I have gotten replacement center posts from Summit. The old cap with a replaced center post is my emergency spare since you are not getting one of them local.
