914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Is there a need for -6 oil lines?

Posted by: mb911 Oct 17 2017, 06:40 PM

I have been able to locate the proper oil lines and fittings and believe I can also supply the hard line which many feel are to small but in actuality they are just fine as the inside of the oil tank is the same size as the id of the scavange line.

Anyhow I kind of looking for input as to if this is a valuable resource in such a way that I should invest in multiple sets to stock with oil tanks etc or are most people going the AN route?

I am looking to make a complete oil supply system. I plan to also make a dipstick that reflects real qtys in my tanks..

Thoughts are welcome..Attached Image

I used a front cooler so A/N lines made sense. Of course that was after I asked you to build mine with metric threads so I used some adaptors. If I didn’t have the front cooler, I would have gone stock oil lines. Then everything would have been a simple bolt on.
I would like a dipstick and one or two of those cool clamps.

Just got word hard line is 150.. So that works out pretty clean..

As most conversions are now made with larger engines, perhaps fabricating lines for a front oil cooler may be a concept. Even formed metal lines(aka the 911) Torino a front cooler may be a market.

That's a great price.....1/3 what a factory one runs.

Pretty happy about that.. My supplier says they are ready to bend 50 of them .. So pretty exciting.. I am going to check with them on GT lines next..

Yea, the last time I bought one from AA, it was $400 and $75 to ship.

Made some dipsticks that will work correctly for my larger capacity oil tanks.. The 914 rubber ones are great but are not effective with my filler necks becuase they are too short for the larger tank..Attached Image

Using AN-12 hose allowed me to custom make my whole oil system. It may (these days) be that a "one size fits all" kit would work for some people.

Today I spent organizing how to make GT style lines. The hose manufacturer is going to do that as well. Now just missing the t stat so probably make adapters for that..

Hi Ben,

How will the lines run from the rear to front ?
Like a factory Gt (drivers side) or the elephant racing style (pass side) ?

I kinda like the idea of the steel lines run on the outer pass long then over/around the inner right fender into the front trunk.

Keep us posted.

I think Ben is talking about reproducing the factory GT lines that sit on the driver side. I also really like the elephant setup that go up the passenger side and over the wheel well. When it was time to run mine (I used a/n 12 ss hose), I found it was easier for me to run one line up the passenger side and then run the return down the driver side. I don’t have a oil cooler on the engine or a thermostat. I did consult with our race car mechanic before I went this direction and he said I would be good. There are lots of ways to skin this cat but I think it’s great Ben is making at least one option that is proven to work. I am always amazed how quickly he goes from concept to stock on the shelf.

A Mocal thermostats can easily be adapted to allow or prevent oil flow to the front and may be more cost effective than the factory thermostat (though it wouldn’t be ‘Concours Correct’). Mounting it on the passenger firewall allows you to run the lines along the passenger side of the car to a front cooler. AN-12 lines work nicely, but tubing would be neater and provide a bit more cooling capacity along the rub. There is (was) a company making finned tubing that would further help with cooling, but I haven’t seen their info for quite a while. The Lemke Design Turbotrol coolers used this type of tubing.

One of the original hoses had a 90 degree fitting that attached through the hook on the 6 chassis.
Will yours have that feature ?.......Will the bottom hose be available without
the adapter shown ?

Yes we have the 90 degree hose but the adapter hose is still incorporated.. I could eliminate it if there was that much demand..

I picked up some factory GT lines from Glenn this weekend and 2 of my sons got to sit in his race car which they thought was pretty cool. Anyway.. I am now going to crate them up and ship them out for replication..

On another note some have asked what is the difference between the soft lines that I can supply for 275 and what PMS can provide.. And to be honest I am not clear what they sell in their kit for 250.. It appears that theirs is set up for their version of the hard line while mine is set up for the factory hard line which is more then sufficient for all engine sizes as regardless of engine size the oil tank internal plumbing is the limiting factor..

That all said it looks like I should be able to provide a turn key oil line plumbing solution regardless of GT oil set up or not..
