Is there a material that would not retain moisture that could be used inside the engine compartment for sound deadening?

I think someone made a repro of the original, but I dunno how much water it would retain...

I would invest in very good INTERIOR sound deadener instead...

I won't be using an interior back-pad, unless I can't stand it..I upholstered the interior side of the firewall this past weekend with hi quality black vinyl. It fit's so tightly that a back-pad would fit right over it if I decide it's too loud. So Dominic, is that stuff really water repelent/resistant? Have you used it? Got a link?

Henry (Henry's roofing products) makes a line of automotive products as well: http://www.henry.com/products/specialty/spec_auto.htm

I suspect they may be similar to some of the roofing products. I'm sure you'd get some decent sound deadening, as well as waterproofing with them. They did use these roofing products years ago for auto applications.
