914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Need Help On 6 Manual Throttle Please

You for a install without welding, you can drill 2 holes in the edge of the throttle arm to the outside section then use 2 bolts and nuts to attach. You can weld it later when you get a chance to remove. Use the holes you have drilled as a template to drill the fin. Do one at a time to make sure they align. You can add washers to get more grip, but will need slightly longer bolts. Lock nuts recommended.

Here's the "shark fin" welded on to the pedal throttle arm.
Clear as mud?
And yes....likely easier to take the whole pedal assembly out to do this.

Received my Manual throttle assembly from 914 Rubber and it looks great! But no specific instruction regarding the “Shark Fin” and I have not seen a real one up close. I understand where and how the lever and rod go that's no problem.
Did some poking around here on the site
where I thought I might see pictures but I did not see the small “shark fin” and how and where exactly it goes on the gas pedal.
Does anybody have a good picture of the "Shark Fin" installed either real original 914-6 or 914 Rubber version?
Of course I had just got all the pedal cables hooked up and adjusted when I received the assembly not understanding how the hand throttle actually worked. I’m thinking the whole pedal assembly has to come out.
“Shark Fin” is on the far left. Thanks!
Jim,good description of the shape
,I mounted this plate with one bolt and moved it once till contact with the rod ,the bolt out and plug welded the hole .
Every "6" on carbs should have one of these ,very handy for quick start up,I do 2-3 pumps on the pedal with the lever on full travel, mine starts straight up.

Thank you,
thank you
, thank you
! A picture is worth a thousand words.
I would have certainly have put it upside down having no clue which way the shark was swimming, but your picture says it all!

Can't take credit for the term "Shark Fin" it came from Scott at 914 Rubber when I called looking for help. Plan to do the same as you on install. Thanks for chiming in.

This looks like a great product, and I am very interested.
Curious, however, on why the kit requires welding the shark fin onto the crank, and then presumably having said crank restored and replated? Why not make that an option? I am guessing a lot of customers would happily pay for it? In fact, I'd rather have that and the rod assembly without the kit's lever—as I already have one of those.
As always, however, 914rubber's contribution to the hobby is more than appreciated. How great that this kit exists at all?

Agree! I was surprised at what I received as the picture on 914 Rubber did not show the "Shark Fin" or mention there was welding involved, or drilling and bolting, as the case may be. Also agree it would have been great to have the thing all ready to install. Perhaps in the future.
Picture from 914 Rubber site.

Here you go, I tucked the corner of the wood template into the leaver on the point where the flange changes direction
I assume 914 rubbers fin is exactly the same dim / shape. Looks very similar
Real fin has a dimple for strength / held on with a couple of small spotwelds
All dims in MM, dimension to the other fins corner is 55mm

here it is on a complete assembly.

Bruce Anderson used to talk about how he loved to use the hand throttle in his 914-6 as cruise control on long trips. While my car starts up cold pretty nicely, my last trip to LA got me thinking about adding this upgrade...
Posted by: Larmo63 Nov 1 2017, 12:49 PM
Just for kicks, this is my set up. Genuine 914-6 set-up in the tunnel and on the pedal. I used a 911 lever for it, and there is a knob Porsche made that says "Throttle" for my type of lever too. I think Eric Shea's car has one....?
It is good for cold starts, and it does work for "cruise control."

Here's the drawing I have.
We colorized if on the site to try to make it more clear. Matt may have some pics, nit sure if he has completed the install yet.

This REALLY is what is needed!

Cruise control
Nice! Thanks for the pic
As an aside isn't the carpet suppose to be over the shifter base? I have an original tunnel carpet with a slit in the front the hand throttle lever comes out of. Just asking.
Posted by: Larmo63 Nov 1 2017, 03:13 PM
I like the look of the shifter bolted over the carpet. The stock carpet over the shifter looks so sloppy. Just my preference.
I'm Teutonic.
I'm weird.

Good point! not that your weird but that it does look "sloppy" and could be improved.

Just send me the fins and I will weld them on quickly no charge for those that want it..
I am actually disappointed I didn't know this before as I will be adding this and already replated my parts .. Darn

You're a good dude, Ben.
Just noticing the strengthening "rib" on the factory piece, likely due to the way the rod operates. Curious if that pressure has been dealt with in the new piece?
Seriously, good on those who worked to make this product happen!
Posted by: Larmo63 Nov 1 2017, 07:48 PM
There is really not that much pressure on pushing a stock gas pedal.
At least there shouldn't be.

I agree, not much leverage can be applied by the hand crank and especially so if it only has two spot welds
I guess if you were really worried you could tack a small triangular fillet on the back. In the photo the dimple kind of looks like it is coming at you but it's not. It's going towards the wood. Dimple is shallow maybe 5-6 mm max
I will take a shot of the back and side tonight so they are in one thread

I have been working with Bruce Stone on these. when you have the pedal set rebuilt you can ask to have the tab added. we are also in the process of making a reinforced part. I have sold probably 35 kits 10 of which I know were installed in pretty short order. They do function as designed, it's a matter of perception. That an if I can I do tend to go towards overkill when its a expensive option.
I'll have these in about 2 weeks. Bruce and I were just talking about this last night.

MB911 Thanks for the generous offer, that is truly awesome of you
. I can tack it in place once I get the pedal assy out.
Also thanks to all that responded and sent pictures and measurements. I appreciate all the help.
Hand throttle just now installed in tunnel. Will pull pedal assembly tomorrow morning and do the fin.
Posted by: Lucky9146 Nov 2 2017, 11:08 PM
Update! Was able to surgically extract the lever without removing the entire pedal assembly! Going to be a bitch to get that tiny cotter pin back in there but it will happen.
Will be spot welding in the morning.
Sixer if you can get those back and side shots you mentioned this morning that would be great! and thanks!

Jim here you go. As you can see the fin is not hard against the crank and bang on 90 degrees to the flange
