914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Transmission sport mounts

I think these are not the sport mounts http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33613&item=7975782135&rd=1

I would like to get two pairs of the real sport mounts. One pair for the transmission and one pair for the engine. Where can I order them from ?? Is there any other places than PP. Not that that I have anything bad to say about the bird boys, but I would like to know if somebody else have better prices. PP has them $44.65 per each.

WEVO mounts would be nice, but they are too pricey sad.gif

I looked around last year, and someone had them cheaper... performance products maybe? check performance and paragon... sometimes they have stuff way cheaper than pelican...

example: tie rod end @ pelican was around $32 IIRC, paragon had the same part for $16..

MOST of the tme, pelican is the best deal, but sometimes, they seem to have a monkey with a price gun just flinging poo everywhere!

You can only use that type of mount for the engine if you have the tailshift trans. I'm guessing you knew that, but just in case...

Edit: Oh, you have a 6... nevermind. smile.gif

the tranny mounts are the same for all years... the motor mounts are different, but not the tranny mounts..

granted I can't see the ad, but the mounts at the end of the transmission is the same, side or tail shift...

Yes. I said for the engine.. The type of trans dictates the type of engine mount because the engine support bar changed for the different shifter. But that only applies to 4s, I haven't the foggiest idea what a 6 uses.

Posted by: tat2dphreak May 25 2005, 09:46 AM

ok, I missed that part, since he was asking about the sport mounts... you are correct...

beerchug.gif grouphug.gif

for clarity, if you have the tailshifter you use the rubber, tranny mounts on the tranny AND the engine, if you have a side shifter, only the tranny has the same mounts,

a /6's motor attaches completely different, there is no bar to interfere, so the tranny mounts only... side or tail shifter...

roice was ealborating on ealry 4 vs later 4 engine bars.

late 4's hard mount to the body and early 4's had a rubber mount to the body (where you can run sportmounts)

Sport mounts used to be $39 everywhere but now that the dollar is in the toilet compared to the Euro prices are up.

Thanks about the info. I have to check those couple of places.

That monkey story was funny lol2.gif

Yes, I have a six and four same kind of rubber mounts. I have home made bulkhead motor mount. It is a same kind like RJ´s and Vellios. It only cost me about $20 wink.gif

I have a set of those repro 911 sport mounts made by APA. They work fine. I paid about $24 each for them a few months ago. I did have to add an 1/8" thick washer between them and the transmission ears -- the sport mount was just slightly shorter than the stock mounts. Seem to work fine, made a huge difference in how my shifter lever moves while cruising and tightened up my shifting.

Got them from www.mindovermotorsports.com. Free shipping at the time. They have good prices on Zimmerman stock rotors too.

Can you change the tranny mounts with everything still bolted up or do you have to drop the tranny and motor?

they can be replaced with everything in place, you'll have to lower the back of the transmission and depending on exhaust, maybe your muffler........

about a 20 minute job......

If you run a RJ motor mount in a /6 conversion, you should use the sport mounts. As a matter of fact, Rich ships the sport mounts with his kits.

For the rear, the hole spacing is a little wider in the 914 than the sport mounts. Just whack the front of the mount on the car with a 5lb sledge to move them rearward a little bit and the sport mounts will bolt right on.
